JUDGE BILL ALTFIELD

Congratulations to Judge Bill Altfield, formerly a public corruptions prosecutor at the Dade State Attorneys Office. Bill ends a distinguished career as a prosecutor that must have spanned at least 25 years. He now begins what we believe will be an equally distinguished career as a Judge in County Court and perhaps beyond.

The Governor has now appointed at least four Dade Prosecutors in the last six months and elevated Judge Brennan, who had a distinguished career as a prosecutor. The Governor also named a Broward Prosecutor to the Dade County Court bench as well today. To paraphrase the Joker, "wait till he gets a load of us" here in Dade.

We have no great love for our Governor but this was one decision he got right.

See You In Court.

  1. Connecting the dots, it looks like Broward ASA Spencer Multack was appointed to the Dade bench as well. Spencer is a hell of a lawyer and a hell of a guy. I worked with him at the Broward SAO and know he'll be a great asset to the bench.

  2. what a great choice for judge. glad to see that they finally overlooked John rivera's veto and made him a judge. great call by an otherwise clueless governor

  3. Scott really blew it elevating Brennan on Jeb's behalf. Some things never change.

  4. Altfield is a terrific choice for judge. Good trial lawyer who has worked hard at SAO and really deserves the post. Didnt have all the political connections like most people and as 855 noted Rivera has been after him for years.

  5. Bill Altfield should be on the circuit bench. Period. And I am a defense attorney. His experience is light years ahead of so many of the current infantile circuit court judges. He was a public corruption prosecutor and went after dirty cops and crooked politicians.

  6. Hooray for Bill!

Very level headed and fair minded.

The fact that Rivera hates him means that he is doing things right.

  7. I am overjoyed that Bill was appointed to the bench. He is singularly the most honest, hard working person I know. Bill and I started at the state attorneys office together 25 years ago. He has served this community with dedication and distinction taking on the most difficult of cases and never shying away from a case because it was hard or unpopular (most of Bill's career was either in Public Corruption or sex battery.) Bill deserves this appointment. And Dade County will be better off because Bill is now a Judge.

  8. This is a twofer. A great choice for judge and a public humiliation for Rivera, the Tony Soprano of the police union.

  9. How can you say Brennan had a good reputation as a prosecutor. She was mean, hateful and rude. As a judge, she is the same rude offensive person. The only reason she is a judge is because she worked for Jeb and now Jeb is talking with the new idiot governor.

  14. I have only one comment about Judge William Altfield--what the hell took so long?

Bill is a great trial attorney but tempers his zeal with fairness, and is a great guy to boot. I have no doubt that he will serve with distinction on the bench.
