FRIDAY MORNING UPDATE:
"We are not enemies, but friends. We must not be enemies. Though passion may have strained, it must not break our bonds of affection."
Rumpole talking to Silent Charlie or a certain sesquipedalian Judge? Nope. Rumpole talking to most anyone who wears a black robe? Nope.
It was 150 years ago today that the 16th President of the United States, Abraham Lincoln, closed with those words in his first inaugural address. The Civil War started soon thereafter.
Next- South Florida has two good posts- DOM's motion for Buju for a new trial (rule 33) and motion for judgment of acquittal (rule 29) which....lets see...carry the 3....is a rule 64 motion! Courtesy of SoFla, here is the link to the motion.
South Florida also reports on the meltdown of George Yoss's law firm. Rent and partners not being paid amounts to bad publicity. And with no money at the State for the SAO to re-hire the former chief assistant, times look tough. But just remember- "tough times don't last- tough people do."
No verdict in the Spence-Jones trial. Rest assured we will be within the top 100 to report it.
Speaking of speed, this Twitter thing is really great. Up to the moment info on what we're thinking and reading. The links to the articles are a nice way of sharing interesting articles.
And for the person who asked: CCP is none other than the wonderful princess of blogging. She owes us both a witty response, and a pic of her in thigh-high boots. Stay tuned.
Regional Counsel Update: Remember them? Well the deadline to file to become a Regional Counsel (appointed by the Governor) has passed and 173 applied in Broward and three in Dade including the current RC (Joseph George) , a person alleged to be a magistrate of some sort (Steve Lieberman) and some lawyer totally unknown to us named James Ermacora who applied in Dade and Broward just for the fun of it.
Sort of like the last guy drafted in the NFL: Mr. Irrelevant.
See You In Court.
Magistrate Lieberman also applied to be a county court judge. That should make for some interesting JNC questions.
ReplyDeleteSpeaking of the JNC,there was a meeting yesterday where JNC members answered questions. That clown Joseph George was there. He asked the JNC members if they knew what his office was all about. The look on the JNC members faces was priceless. They had no clue who he was or the point of his question. It was stupid and awkward.
Steve Lieberman does juvenile Marchman acts. You know, mom and dad catch the kid with a baggie of pot in their room and instead of parenting, they turn them over to the system.
ReplyDeleteI think the poor guy's just bored. He's actually good at his job and would make a decent judge or RC.
J George should not be running that office. Period.
ReplyDeleteI was at the JNC event sponsored by various Bar associations on Wednesday. I happened to be sitting next to Mr. George. In fairness to him, it appeared the point of his question was to gauge the level of familiarity with the Office of Regional Counsel by JNC members. I assume there are members of his office interested in applying for a judicial appointment and he wanted the JNC members to know about the role of his office in the criminal justice system. There's nothing wrong with that, and it's certainly not stupid.
ReplyDeleteIt would be a Rule 62, genius. 33+ 29=62.
ReplyDeleteLittle Yoss, always Hanks lap dog or poodle. Now that slick Hank is disbarred, Litttle Yoss cant do it on his own. Maybe he could throw his hat in the ring for Regional Counsel.
ReplyDeleteSee, I knew I shouldn't have carried the three.

I was at the JNC meeting on Wed also at the divorce courthouse. Nice of De la o to stand up for Joe George, who doesn't deserve it. What De la o won't tell you is he got a nice shout out from Beth Bloom for his graciousness in the "green room" when the JNC interviewed her. Someone needs to clue Miguel in that graciousness and being a stand up guy doesn't matter for sh*t to this JNC. Stop applying buddy, they don't deserve nor respect your caliber of character.
ReplyDeleteNo, Mr. De la O, you were only there because you used to come out of committee and now you don't anymore.
ReplyDeleteI vote no to De la O.
Today's investiture of Michaelle Gonzalez Paulson was very simple and emotional. It was not a sesquipedalian ceremony (to use Rumpole's word) but a very heartfelt and down to earth event. Michaelle will make a great judge.
ReplyDeleteThe so called bird road rapist was finally declared innocent after 20 yrs in jail. didnt the "famousc lawyer "Roy Black represent him as a PD? I wonder how many other lawyers got an innoncent man convicted> nice job Black. I guess he could not buy the jury when he was a PD
ReplyDeleteThe Yoss Firm is an excellent firm. Like many, it has had to adjust to the realities of current practice. Most law firms have modest distributions during the year and then one or two major distributions. Firms like Yoss that try to distribute 1/12th of a projected annual award to each partner each month can't do it these days. And, what do they get from their pampered partners when they cannot meet this impossible goal: Charges that they aren't "getting their pay." Partners receive a share of profits, not "pay."
ReplyDeleteThat firm has quality lawyers and will be just fine. The naysayers should leave it alone. Nothing worse than the Turkey Vultures trying to make the healthy dead.
We love you Princess....
