NEIL ROGERS HAS PASSED AWAY
He was the very best there ever was at what he did. He entertained millions of us for decades and when we weren't laughing we were debating some of the thought provoking ideas or comments he had. I have missed him since he went off the air.
Rest In Peace Uncle Neil.
His death has been underplayed in the local media. I disagreed with just about everything he said but I loved his show. He was as politically incorrect as you can get these days. He pissed on everyone across the political spectrum. I still laugh thinking of his putdowns of Larry King. There was an obituary this morning that claimed Neil turned down a chance to go national. I think he would have hit it big. RIP Neil.

ReplyDeleteRump: Re your comments on Neil Rogers:
ReplyDeletePerhaps no one said it better than the famed bridge tender ; ABSOLUTELY CORRECT SIR.
And it a final salute, I will quote an old old drop-in from perhaps the WIOD days- one most people won't remember but would be sure to make our Uncle Neil laugh:
THAT'S MY OPINION AND I'M MIKE DISNEY.
RIP Uncle Neil. I will miss you. Thank you for the decades of entertainment.
Neil used to wake me up in the morning
ReplyDeleteNeil used to wake me up with a smile.
I would drink my coffee

Neil Neil Neil (and tweety) they were the ones, yeah!
Neil Neil Neil Neil Neil.....
gonna miss ya Uncle Neil.
the Wonderful Isle Of Dreams.... WIOD ---those were the days.... Phil Hendrie and Uncle Neil.
ReplyDeletefor some great laughs go to SoFloRadio and listen to the first ten minutes or so of the show- it starts with perhaps one Phil Hendrie's genius bits of all time- when he prank called larry king off the air- as Bob Green- the General Manager of WIOD- and then Bob (impersonated by Phil) started to cry when Larry called Neil the worst talk show host of all time.
After that bit there is some banter by Neil about Larry Ziger and then a song that summed up Neil's career to that point- it is brilliant, poignant and actually made me laugh and feel like crying at the same time. I've linked this to SoFloRadio and then click archives and then December 17- enjoy.
Wonder Mugs....and Hallandale's city council resolution against Neil. The song on the 12/17 show sums up Neil's move from Zeta to WIOD in such a great way. And I love the way it ends...
ReplyDelete"Neil once said to me, and I quote: " Rosenberg and all his gang..they don't mean a thing...being an old fart is just a state of mind."
The song is called "The Ballad Of Neil" and among many amazing bits and songs it remains one of the best.
ReplyDeleteRump,
ReplyDeleteCan I call someone a douche-bag?
