S/A/TUR-DAY-NIGHT

Good Saturday morning, here's the news you need for the weekend.

Need a job? Move to Detroit. The Auto Industry is back!!

Need a job? Apply to be a Federal Judge. According to SFL writing on David O Markus's blog, there are 100 vacancies among the 867 Federal Judge positions. Surely you're among the top 100 aren't you?

The first NFL pre-season games were played Friday night. And no worries, because yours truly has been hard at work entering data, adjusting matrixes, and getting ready to help all you ASAs and PDs pad your 65K salary with a few nice scores (but don't spend it at Scores.) That boat or Mustang convertible may just be in your future if you stick with us.
UPDATE: We have been sufficiently straightened out in the comments section that the salary is more like 40 K- all the more reason to follow our picks. We'll have you eating the steak and lobster at Capitol Grille in no time.

Need a job? Go work for Jets coach Rex Ryan, if you can stand his ^%$@!$%%^'ing language as revealed on HBO's hard knocks series.

Need even one more reason to never ever go to Broward again? There's a Dengue Fever outbreak there. Really.

We remember back in the mid-80's and before when Sy Gaer would still take cases in Broward he would often show up late for court in Dade always saying the same thing: "I've been in the wilds of Broward County Judge and you have no idea what they're trying to do to my client up there...."

We still miss him.

Is there any better way to end a post starting with the Bay City Rollers than a
Sy Gaer quote?

Have a good weekend and see you in court Monday. Coming up in the next few weeks: The penalty phase in the Baby Lollipops re-trial.

  1. I love when people comment "I'm not voting for _______ becasue he/she would just be a prosecutor on the bench." Does that mean you would want them to be a defense lawyer on the bench?

  2. calm down with the $65k salary for young PDs and ASAs...from someone who knows, try something more in the range of $42k for PDs, a tad less for ASAs

  3. Word is Ed Newman is panicking .Yesterday he and his wife verbally abused a young girl poll worker for Manny Alvarez at an early voting location! Ed why don't you go pick on someone your own size? You know a polling place is not your courtroom ,you should save your abuse for the latter.Shame on you Big Boy!

  4. 10:49. it means we want a coldly detached neutral person on the bench. someone like the late Ed Cowart. Is that too much to ask for, Numbnuts?

  5. Why would Adrien not show up?

    Friendly room? Maybe not.

Probably not a very friendly room for several of the candidates. Think Newman thought it was friendly? Think Koontz did?

But if you are going to claim the authority to send people to prison, or worse, you ought to have the intestinal fortitude to walk in that room. That ought to be nothing to you.

It is not about kissing rings, it is about showing respect and being willing to go to ANY group.

  8. are you too young to remember the song by the bay city rollers s--a--tur---day----night?

As to the person after the candidate- when you quote the DBR article quote it correctly. The individual was NOT arrested for shooting a weapon AT a person.

That's why I'm not printing your stupid and insipid comments.

  9. Sorry Rumpy but yes I am too young to remember. I'm from the New Kids on The Block Generation.

  10. Can anyone name the judicial candidate that's video recording and harassing his opponents poll workers?

    Very disappointing.

  11. Adrien is such a dope that he didn't even know there wasn't a 5 yr mm on use of a Gluon Gun. And when I told him possession of a Gluon Gun was governed by the Inter-Stellar Pact on Accelerated Weapons (ISPAW) he just looked at me with that mopey stare. What a dofus.

  12. Big mistake reading this post this morning. Took my dog for a walk and was singing that damn song to myself for one mile and now cannot get it out of my head. Need to go to the office today so I will listen to my Bee Gees tracks on my Ipod on the way and hopefully won't be wasting the entire day dancing the disco waltz in my conference room. On a more serious note, it is folly to bet pre-season games. Pre season bets should be restricted to placing small amounts on the longshots to reach the Super Bowl. I was told by a bookie/client of mine that there are certain teams whose line becomes less favorable from Monday morning until Sunday gametime. Some teams have a history of being favored by a larger amount on Monday only to see the number move in the other direction by Sunday. The trick is to know which teams and secure your position and then bet the other side on Sunday at 12:45. The downside is small but the payoff can be huge. This guy runs an off shore betting operation in Costa Rica and has a computer model that does the numbers crunching. He claims to have made money on the formula. Who knows.

  13. adrian will win because the voters think rocky is voting for him, "adrian"...the problem is the level of involvement of the voters...they are just dopes

  15. 847- nothing new there. It's called middling.

the biggest example was when the Steelers beat the Cowboys in the Superbowl 21-17 in 1979(I think).

The opening line was Steelers -3 and the closing line two weeks later was Steelers - 4 1/2.

This is the only Superbowl that Vegas sportbooks lost money on as the professional betters took the Steelers early and the cowpokes late and won both bets!

It's a sophisticated bet and the correct opportunity does not always present itself even once a season. But when it does----well lets just say that modest retreat we own high in the Sierra Nevadas didn't come entirely from legal fees. And thank you Chicago Bears!!!
