REGJB ELECTION RESULTS 2010

SOMEWHERE TONIGHT, HANK HARNAGE IS SMILING. :)

Stay tuned to our award winning Judicial election night coverage. We will be updating frequently throughout the night.

10:41 PM 713 precincts reporting and 99 left: News: NEWMAN INCREASES HIS LEAD- he's now up by over 6,900 votes. THIS IS OUR LAST UPDATE TONIGHT- WE ARE GOING TO SLEEP.

Former Judge Peter Adrien: 49,656 - it will speak poorly of this county if this person breaks 50,000.

Samantha Ruiz-Cohen: 118,393

Manny Alvarez: 78,590

Ed Newman: 85,488

Monica Gordo: 103,136

Robert Kuntz: 57, 383 (This one is over. Mr. Kuntz cannot win.)

Flora Seff: 67,272

MGP: 88,920 (Sorry to say that this one is over as well. Judge Seff cannot win).

8:25 PM.
Our reader reports:
Early voting and absentees are in. Adrien already behind by 40,000 votes and with only an 8.5% turnout there aren't enough votes out there for him to make up. Welcome to the Circuit bench, Sam.

Rumpole says: There aren't enough votes for Adrien to come from behind. Put a fork in him. He's done. Good riddance. As to the others, especially Newman and Kuntz, we think back to two election cycles ago and Judge Sheldon Schwartz and last election cycle and Judge Stacy Glick. Schwartz was behind until North Dade reported at the end of the night, and he pulled out a squeaker. Glick was behind until the Gables and South Dade reported and then she ran away with it. It is surprising to see Manny Alvarez and Paulson with early and absentee voting strength. But lets wait a bit. No precincts are reporting yet.

Monica is in a similar position but up by only 30,000. Still not enough out there, Bob. Call this one Monica's to lose.

Seff is behind by 15,000 and can make up that difference. She will do well late in the black precints where turnout is heaviest. She can make it up there and this will go down to the wire. Call it a tossup at this point.

Eddie is only 5,000 down and like Seff will do well late. He's going to win pulling away.

  1. Absentee ballots posted--every Hispanic judicial candidate is way up. Shocker.

  2. So much for Kuntz/Gordo being a tight race...

  3. Ruiz-Cohen and Gordo won! There is no way Kuntz and Adrien can make up the difference with the voter turnout today.

Gonzalez-Paulson up by 15,000 after absentee ballots and early voting reported. Still 24,000 something votes left unaccounted for but I think Gonzalez-Paulson wins (I'm personally happy about this one)

Alvarez and Newman is too close to call

  5. THE CAPTAIN REPORTS:

    EARLY RETURNS ....

If these percentages hold up, then it will be an Hispanic grand slam as

    Ruiz Cohen
    Gordo
    Alvarez
    Gonzalez Paulson

all winning big. No race is within 5 points right now.

Flora Seff is getting trounced by 18 points. Kuntz getting mauled by 35 points. And Adrien, ouch - he's 47 points back. Only Newman is holding on and 5 points behind.

But the returns are very early and there are many ballots to count.

    Cap Out ...

  6. Has anyone looked at the race Juan D'Arce got into and the huge loss he is taking.

I though he was a campaign guru and if so why did he not do better in the race?

  7. Scene: A crowd of twenty or so rises to their feet. "We want Pete! We Want Pete"!!

Peter Adrien: Thank you. Thank you. (points to a person in the first row and smiles) Tonight I placed a call to Samantha Ruiz Cohen, and congratulated her on running a great race. If the trends hold up, she will be our next Circuit Court Judge. (crowd boos...someone yells "NO", someone else yells "we love you Peter")

No, no. Don't boo her. This is too important a job.
You know, as I learned early on, the criminal arraignment calendar is a tough nut to crack. As a Judge, you must carefully question the state when they no action a case when a defendant is in custody, and in most circumstances you are empowered to hold them in custody another 60 days while you personally investigate the case.

And talk about jury trials! Another headache I learned about. You know, in most cases, when I told the jury the state had proved the case and the defendant was guilty, they followed my advice. See, this is a important job. And it takes a great amount of knowledge to wield the awesome power. I learned a lot as a Judge, and I hope Ms. Ruiz-Cohen applies herself like I did to learn the law.

    Thank you. And Goodnight.

  9. I think Captain/Anon are wrong as to their analysis. Obviously Adrien and Kuntz have lost. But so will Newwman and Seff. There aren't that many election day votes out there. As I write 213/812 precincts are in. Seff is definitely out. Newman maybe has a chance, but I think even 5,000 votes is too many to make up (remember he doesn't have to just get 5k more he has to get 5k more than Alvarez gets in the remaining precincts). I call it for Alvarez and Gonzalez-Paulson as (along with Ruiz-Cohen and Gordo) our newest election victors in the REGJB.

  10. Based on how the -- last name ends with a "Z" candidates are doing, it obviously was unwise for Kuntz to forget to file as Robert-O.

Might have made it a sweep - or am I being cynical?

  16. Milian and Pertierra printing up mass Motions To Recuse for all Newman cases. Sylvia Gonzalez, too.

    Congrats Monica.

    Congrats Sam.

    Sorry Flora.

Congrats to Michelle Gonzalez-Paulson. You'll now preside over a jury trial before actually trying a jury trial. Hopefully, Joel Brown buries her in branch court for the next few years.

  17. Dan Gelber may be the only state wide Democratic candidate to win in november. Meek done, Sink sunk, Gelber geez...,

  18. Judge Seff was a very fair Judge. I remember many times being before her when she was extremely nasty to me, but noticed she was also very nasty to the other side as well. I will greatly miss her bark.

To quote a recently victorious judge, "too bad so sad"
