NFL PREDICTIONS

EMAIL US YOUR PICKS FOR THE SUICIDE POOL. READ YESTERDAY'S POST FOR RULES AND DETAILS.

Before we start with the important stuff, we love this line, from the Broward Blog, applauding the establishment of a permanent Judge to handle bond hearings (denied) and first appearances North Of the Border: "The blank, scared stares of the civil division judges will now be confined to weekends only."

Are you ready for some football? We are. And after the usual slow summer, we could use some flow.

Tonight: The World Champion NY Giants take on the Washington Redskins in New Jersey.  The Gints are favorites -4. Take the Giants. The o/u is 40. We like the Under, just a little.
New Feature: we'll put units on our picks, and keep score!
100 units on the Gints. 25 on the under. Remember if we lose we pay a 10% vig, just like in real life.

This won't make you any money, but if you read closely you will see the early season trends we have identified. And if you remember our tips from last year, the number one tip we have for making money on football is identifying the early season trends that differ from the the trends at the end of last season. What do we mean? Last year we could have bought a Porsche (ok, a used one, but low mileage) on the money we made betting against everyone's darling team- The San Diego Chargers- at the beginning of the season.

This year- a few quick thoughts- BET AGAINST DALLAS. Could we be any more clear? Also the Browns (which is a problem because the Brownies play the Cowpokes on opening day). Take the Dolphins under until you go broke or can't find enough places to store the cash.  Go with the Vikes and against the Eagles in the NFC. In the AFC we like the Jags, but we're not sure their QB is for real. Ditto the Brownies. The Chargers should start a lot faster than last year, and the Steelers have a good team but the hardest schedule in the league, so don't go near them.

In order of our predicted finish:
AFC EAST:
NE Cheaters (somebody needs to stop them. How do they have such an easy schedule?); JETS (Mangini for real. Favre has a few good years left) ; Bills (Don't buy the hype, 7-9 again); Dolphins (Best 6-10 team in the NFL).

AFC West: Chargers (real deal), Broncos (Jay Cutler is the real deal, but O-line in flux), Raiders (Good coach, bad management), Chiefs (Worst team in football this year. Herm should have stayed in NY).

AFC North. Steelers (Perennial contenders-tough schedule may do them in); Brownies (Remember, they're Cleveland. They need to prove to us they can overcome their heritage); Ravens (Cam baby.); Bungles (Also the worst team in football this year. Last year for head coach Marvin Lewis.).

AFC South: Jaguars (QB suspect. Defense real deal); Colts!!! (Peyton is 32);  Titans (Vince Young has very good year and they might just surpass the Colts); Texans.

JAGS and Cheaters in AFC Championship game.

NFC East. Giants (SB Champs); Cowpokes (Way overrated. Could fall to third); Skins; Eagles (Things won't be pretty in Philly this year. Load up on the cheese steaks. We like Pats over Genos)

NFC West: Cardinals !!!; Seahawks (the end has begun); Niners (going nowhere fast) ; Rams (ditto).

NFC North: Packers (Aaron Rodgers is the real deal) Vikes (need a QB); Lions (on the rise); Da Bears (da blues).

NFC South: Saints (Because the Bucs aren't good enough to contend) ; Bucs; Panthers (going nowhere fast); Falcons (woof woof).

Packers and Saints in NFC Championship game.

  2. MICHAEL FEILER AND CLAY KAISER PICK THE GIANTS; Rick Freedman the Chargers; David Markus the NE Pats; also playing with no picks yet:

  3. Rumpole picks the Eagles.

Note- if you don't pick the game tonight you can change your pick with an email before 12:noon Sunday - I'll accept emails up to 12:59 sunday, but lets try not to wait until the last moment. If you forget and want to pick a sunday 4pm or 8pm game I'll accept that and if you blow it sunday and can pick a monday night game, I'll accept that, but lets try not to get into those last minute picks.

  4. Yo Rump, Panthers O should be pretty good this year with a healthy Delhomme, one stud WR, and a potentially excellent rb combo (DeAngelo is a big risk health wise, but I'm pretty confident that Stewart will be healthy and kick some serious ass..........he's a monster who fits in perfectly with their scheme). I think you're underestimating them.

The rest of your comments are right on. Ocho Cinco has succeeded in destroying the Bungles O. Since their D already sucks, they're going to be terrible.

  5. You know fellow bloggers and Rumpola, one of my great fears about John McCain's approach to national security is that he shows nary a whit of interest in busting out the ol' Google Map to find out the quickest route to the Afghanistan/Pakistan border, where our terrorist enemies dwell and flourish, unharmed and unmolested. But after last nights remarks from Palin, it appears all but certain that there is one group of people who McCain truly will chase all the way to the Gates of Hell: community organizers.

  6. ROKINAAR- go read the Wikkipedia entry on herm Edwards- the Jets Traded him to KC for a fourth round pick. WHY? BECAUSE AS ANYONE WHO FOLLOWS THE GAME KNOWS- HERM CONTACTED KC AND WORKED OUT A DEAL AND THEN WENT TO THE JETS TO GET RELEASED OR A TRADE. HE WAS NOT FIRED.

    FROM WIKIPEDIA:
"In 2005, a year marred by injuries, inconsistent play, lack of player development, and rumors swirling about Edwards possibly leaving the organization, Edwards led the Jets to a woeful 4-12 record. Following the end of the season, the Jets traded away the rights to Edwards to the Kansas City Chiefs for a fourth round draft pick in the 2006 NFL Draft, and replaced him with Eric Mangini as their head coach."

  7. Daunte Culpepper announced his retirement today. The Dolphins promptly added him to the practice squad.

  8. MORE FROM WIKI ON HERM EDWARDS:

    Controversial departure from New York

Following the 2005 season, Carl Peterson, president of the Kansas City Chiefs hinted to the press about interest in hiring Edwards that could have been considered tampering. The Jets granted permission to the Chiefs to speak with Edwards so no NFL rules were violated.[1] At the time, Edwards had two years remaining on his contract with the Jets. However, this was the coach that Peterson wanted to be the successor to Dick Vermeil, who had just retired. As the rumors started swirling, a war of words between the two teams began to start up in the media. In the midst of all the speculation, Edwards tried to use what leverage he had with the Jets to get a contract extension with a hefty pay raise from the Jets, which only served to further anger the club's owner. Eventually, the two teams worked out a deal, and the Chiefs sent the Jets a 4th round pick in the 2006 NFL Draft as compensation (the Jets later used this selection to take Leon Washington).[

  9. I know who Rumpole is, based upon his football picks. He was one of the guys sharing bong hits with me last night. Too bad I got too stoned to remember who I was with.

  10. During one part of her speech, she couldn’t see the teleprompter because signs were blocking it. That was when she ad-libbed a line about the difference between a hockey mom and a pit bull —“lipstick.”

Read the story of the teleprompter not working for palin at:

  11. Rumpole_ life is good. I'm ordering the Pizza (steves NMB) Got one of those Heinekin Light mini kegs- 50 inch Sony LCD- Penthouse Condo, and the sweetest 22 year old FIU student coming over. The best part of these FIU girls is that they are so insecure about going to FIU rather than U/M. I put her in the Porsche on the first date, dropped the top, and took her to Prime 112. She's never seen anything like this expect in the papers.

Anyway, I'm divorced, good looking, rich, and loving life. Can you say "Shumie time'?
    It's all good,

  16. As per an article from CBSNews, the Republicans are saying that Palin has experience with the Russians so she had foreign policy experience.

Fox News' Steve Doocy, said, with a straight face, that Palin does know about international relations because she is right up there in Alaska right next door to Russia." Cindy McCain was second, telling George Stephanopoulos, in response to a question about national security experience.

U.S. News' Michael Barone was third, defending Palin's credentials by insisting, "Foreign policy experience? Well, Alaska is the only state with a border with Russia." Fourth was conservative writer Frank Gaffney, who said Palin has learned foreign policy "by osmosis," because of Alaska's physical location.

John McCain, then, is fifth. And all of these people say this with a straight face?

If I dig a hole in the ground deep, and deeper, until I come out in China, does that make me experienced in foreign policy too?

  17. Watching the Republican Convention is like watching the Lawrence Welk show

  18. 6:05:00 PM: your comment made me feel nauseous... how pathetic that you have to mention what you drive and where you dine in order to impress your prey... trying to validate yourself with the "I'm divorced, good looking, rich, and loving life" afterthought.

  19. Watching McCain tonight, I felt a warm comfort over come over me. The speech was stilted, the cheers forced, the specifics few.

I saw an old man, and I thought- my friends, Obama has this one in the bag.

  20. 10:38- Most assuredly there are prey and there are Lions, and I am a Lion. It is the natural order of things. And I cannot tell you just how great it feels when the prey has been captured and I have my way. It is a feeling you will probably never know.

    ReplyDelete
  21. 6:05 - I have been both Prey and Lion... neither made me feel good or proud of myself after the charge was over. Extremes are usually not healthy... if you happen to be interested in experiencing true love and happiness, please consider being more compassionate with yourself and others.
