NO ENDORSEMENTS
Judge Samuels and Gloria Gonzalez-Meyer.
Judge Michael Samuels is challenge by attorney Gloria Gonzalez-Meyer. We must admit that we know so little of the participants that we even forgot to post a poll on this race. Recently we received some emails and missives to the effect that when Judge Samuels ran against Judge Emas, he used commercials attacking Judge Emas for previously representing Defendants when he was in private practice. If that allegation is true, and we have no idea that it is, Samuels did not deserve to win that election and does not deserve to be a Judge.
Neither candidate saw fit to email us anything about themselves, and we just don’t feel comfortable making an endorsement about two candidates we honestly know nothing about.
Judge Rippingille and Don Cohen.
We have a more difficult decision in this race, because we know Don Cohn, and believe he would make an excellent county court judge. He has the personality and temperament to be a Judge in a court that brings the Judiciary in close contact with the general public. When we watch a County Court Judge snap at an un-represented defendant and refuse to listen to their question and help them, we can’t help but wonder why they ever wanted to be a Judge. We have no difficulty in believing that if elected, Mr. Cohn will exhibit the kindness and patience that he is well known for in the REGJB.
Unfortunately, we have no experience with Judge Rippingille. We have asked around and gotten mixed reviews. We greatly value the opinion of attorney Ed Carhart, who saw fit to write to the blog in defense of Judge Rippingille. We also have heard many people echo the recommendation in the Herald, which cited to Judge Rippingille’s devotion to families and children in trouble. Some attorneys have a completely different and markedly negative view of Judge Rippingille. While we think the criticism we have heard is valid, because we just don’t know enough about Judge Rippingille, we hesitate to endorse Don Cohn, although we have no trouble admitting we probably will be voting for him.
Some time this week we're going to go over 100K of visitors to our humble blog. In less than a year!
ReplyDeleteThank you all for reading and posting comments.
I'm hoping on the Bardwil bandwagon with my wife that's cuter than yours, and with my shirt off. Today at noon, at the civil courthouse!
ReplyDeleteAnd everyone on the bandwagon will be singing
ReplyDeleteMiami's for Migna
Migna's for Miami
Oh Shelly Can't you see?
Miami's for Migna
Migna's for Miami
She'll be on the bench by Janaury 3.
I'm bringing Muffins!!!
ReplyDeleteIts a bloggaha partteee. I'll be there lookin , for da man, da blogga, Joel D!
ReplyDeleteAlan, this sounds big. I think I'm going.
ReplyDeletebreaking news- someone emailed us
ReplyDeleteJose Sanchez-Gronlier won the lawsuit filed by Valerie Manno to strike him from the ballot and prevent his votes from being counted. Despite her quarter-million bankroll, it looks like Manno doesn't feel confident about her ability to win without the help of the courts.
You can go Chris, but then you're going to have eat those dumb muffins and sing that stupid Migna song. Have fun.
ReplyDeleteThis Bardwil bandwagon, is the driver licensed? Proper insurance?
ReplyDeleteAny prize for being the 100,000th visitor?
ReplyDeleteIt occurred to me that any Judge with the first name of PETER should be more sensitive to the bathroom needs of his male courtreporter.
ReplyDeleteMy bondsman can beat up Scott Saul's Bondsman.
ReplyDeleteI'm on the Bardwil Bandwagon!
ReplyDeleteScott Saul says he gets cases by doing a lot of advertising. Ever see his ad? "Senior trial attorney for the State Attorneys office."
ReplyDeleteKnow what that means? A dopey A- was never even a DC. Plus, the only person who really has that title is Abe Laeser.
Can you spell F-r-a-u-d?
I heard Hank Goldberg never misses a post on this blog.
ReplyDeleteSo does Bennett. Big deal.
ReplyDeletePeter Adrien is the poster boy for why lawyers have to be very concerned about the judicial elections. If we don't do something about this ethnic first voting then we will have a shitty judiciary for a long time to come. All of us need to spread the gospel that competency and integrity matter most. This epidemic of teenage lawyers running for judges, name-changing to pander to ethnic communities and ethical lapses has to stop.
ReplyDeleteMiami's for Migna
ReplyDeleteMigna's for....
oh never mind.
I may wear purple
ReplyDeleteand yellow too
but I'm the best Judge
If you have to sue
or if you have a ticket
for running a red light
don't let my green and orange tie
give you any fright
I'm running for re-election
this Migna doesn't have a clue
that's why my tie is red
while my shirt is green and blue
Rumpole, let's have a 100,000th blogga party at La Loggia in a week or so. Happy hour, it'll be great. Everybody can speculate about who Rumpole is and we can sell "I'm Rumpole" t-shirts. The main event can be a boxing match between Jason Gray and Scott Saul. My money is on Scott, ever see the guns on that guy?
ReplyDeleteTHE AMERICAN ASSOCIATION OF UROLOGISTS DEMANDS I REPEAT- DEMANDS AN EXPLANTION AND APOLOGY FROM JUDGE PETER ADRIEN.
ReplyDeleteTHANK YOU.
Dr. Peters, AACU
MD, FACS, FACU.
Many division chiefs have their judgement castrated by the State Attorney's Office in order to ascend to that post. I don't care how Saul gets his cases, the fact that he left as an A doesn't make him any worse in my opinion. A's can usually do whatever the hell they want, and if the office doesn't like it, to hell with them it's about time to leave anyway.
ReplyDeleteParty Time? Next Thursday Night? Before the start of the long weekend? You set it up, and we'll publish the details. No way of knowing if we'll be there. We'll never tell. Maybe our favourite Herald scribe Oh Susanah Nesmith will show up with her pink pants?
ReplyDeleteWe did not publish a post containing an allegation that a lawyer is endorsing a judge because they used to have a relationship, as there is no way for us to know if that is true.
ReplyDeleteI'm voting for Don Cohn, well actually, I live in tampa so I can't vote for him, oh, wait, this is miami so I CAN vote for him. I used to work for him and I think he would make a good judge. He's fair, smart, and has over 25 years experience. I've been in front of Rippingille and found her to be anti husband/pro wife in almost all injunction hearings.
ReplyDeleteLearn to spell. It is "judgment"and not "judgement."
ReplyDeleteTHE CAPTAIN REPORTS:
ReplyDeleteThe information you received is correct Rump. Circuit Judge Daryl Trawick dismissed the lawsuit filed by Manno Schurr against Sanchez-Gronlier on Tuesday.
Judge Trawick's Order states in pertinent part:
"It is hereby DECLARED that Defendant Sanchez-Gronlier is in
violation of §106.021 but that removal from the ballot is not warranted."
"It is further ORDERED AND ADJUDGED that Plaintiff’s motion and action for injunctive relief is hereby DENIED and the Plaintiff shall go hence without day."
Sanchez-Gronlier does expect an immediate appeal will be filed by the Manno Schurr camp.
For more information, please contact The Captain.
CAPTAIN OUT ..............
I like Jose Sanchez whatever his name is. He talks funny and he's long winded but he does know his criminal law stuff and I think he would do a good job.
ReplyDeleteThat Migna song crap has got to be the most anoying thing on this blog. The most annoying thing about these elections is that she could actually win and we would lose a great judge. Go Shelly!
ReplyDeleteRump:
ReplyDeleteThe reason you're not posting the name of the lawyer and judge who had relationship is because you dont know if its true or not? What difference does it make if they did or they didnt.
You shouldnt post it because its personal matter.
the Blog's favored Herald scribe would love to attend a happy hour. I've been wondering where lawyers lubricate, actually.
ReplyDeleteAlas, I may still be buried under judicial candidate questionaires and bar poll ratings. Anyone know why so many people have run for judge this year? We have 35 candidates, which seems excessive.
Susannah Nesmith
"...shall go hence without day."
ReplyDeletei never go ANYWHERE without day! who would carry my important legal documents for me?
BREAKING NEWS:
ReplyDeletePluto is not a planet, according to leading scientists.
Whats next, Dade isnt in central america?
The Marino-Pedraza vs. McWhorter suit is now set before West Palm Beach Judge Barkdull for final hearing in Miami next Tuesday at 1:00 pm.
ReplyDeleteShould be interesting as they look like they can prove many serious violations of the law.
Like Judge Trawick said, is that enough to bounce someone off the balot? I do not think so but, it is hard to understand how a judge can screw up so many things and still be a judge?
Top TEN reasons to avoid “He who shall not be mentioned” a/k/a “Hardwick” or known to Rumpole as "Nutjob":
ReplyDelete10. He will file a lawsuit against your first born.
9. You don’t want your picture next to his fat ass in the Miami New Times.
8. You will not be invited to Judge Hernandez victory party.
7. DCF will pull your kids from you for association, Judge Cohen will execute the order and the 3rd DCA will affirm with a PCA.
6. Your Menudo/Ricky Martin record collection will be confiscated.
5. Piss him off and you will have a web site dedicated to you.
4. Google will block your computer from accessing search engine.
3. Will file a bar complaint against you for breathing.
2. You cancel lunch waiting for the 12:00 noon shutdown of this blog only to be told it won’t happen.
THE NUMBER ONE REASON TO AVOID “He who shall not be mentioned” a/k/a “Hardwick” or known to Rumpole as "Nutjob":
1. Your knowledge of the Baker Act is limited.
Captain, I saw the Trawick order that Jose Sanchez Gronlier was showing this morning at the REGJB. The judge ruled that his campaign finance violation was de minimus and did not affect qualifying. I think it was a pretty well-reasoned order by Judge Trawick that tracked the facts and the applicable case law.
ReplyDeleteWho will pay for the party? Then we would know who you are Rump.
ReplyDeleteThe Party's on as Ms. Nesmith has RSVP'd!!!
ReplyDeleteLawyers used to go to the Marine Bar or alibi lounge. They just knocked the whole building down where the Alibi used to be. Don't know about the Marine Bar anymore.
Today I found myself humming the Migna song. It's kind of catchy. I may just vote for her, "she'll be on the bench by January 3."
ReplyDeletelawyers never went to the marine bar. that bar was reserved for cops from MPD and MDPD. in fact, there was one notable fight between them that got alot of pub. we use to drink at the HI across from the old miami police dept. where the winn-dixie is now.....
ReplyDeleteI SAW SY GAER ON THE PILE OF RUBBLE THAT USED TO BE THE ALIBI HAVING A DRINK
ReplyDeletethat top ten is hysterical
ReplyDeleteI'm a lawyer (although some want that to stop) and I drank at the marine bar. With ASA's and PD's and even a few Judges. Throw in a few clerks, a few court reporters, and you have a watering hole.

Dear Ms. Nesmith-
ReplyDeleteI used to be a good and dedicated lawyer until this blog came around. Now I work about half as much and spend half the day reading poems about Migna and wondering if my chest is nicer than Scott Saul's. I was just wondering. Did you have any respect for the legal profession before you started reading this blog, and has the blog destroyed any respect that you had?
Sy is Rumpole...fact. He writes everything in his blackbook, and one of his former clients who can not afford to pay types it into a blog for him in lieu of a fee. The man is a genius. Genius I tell you!

the trialmaster has known mike samuels since law school when he was a coconut grove hippie. his head is on right and should be reelected.although his tactics against kevin were not admirable, after all, it is poltics. mike may have the jewish male v. the hispanic unknown female problem. in my humble opinon, the bench in dade has never been weaker.the trial master endorses mike samuels.
ReplyDeleteRe: Shelly Schwartz...he's got to be the most antagonistic, nasty, intimidating, rude judge on the bench (hummmm, maybe not). Have you all BEEN to Hialeah and seen for yourselves what he does to people? Heavens forbid you roll trough a stop sign. Its equivalent to say...running over a little old lady, or, one would think by the way he YELLS at people. Forget him, its worth giving Migna, or frankly, ANYONE else a shot. When was the last time he engaged in a LEGAL argument? 1963? He's annoying.
