President Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation on January 1, 1863 in the President's Office.
President Truman signed Executive Order 9981 on July 26, 1948, which integrated the US Armed Forces.
President Eisenhower sent the 101st Airborne to Little Rock Arkansas to enforce Brown v. Board of Education and integrate Central High School over Governor Faubus's refusal to comply with Brown.
President Kennedy proposed a Civil Rights Bill which President Johnson signed into law as the 1964 Civil Rights Act.
Martin Luther King dreamed of a world where his children were judged by the content of their character and not the color of their skin.
President Reagan said "Our nation is a nation of immigrants. More than any other country, our strength comes from our own immigrant heritage and our capacity to welcome those from other lands."
On December 2, 2025, the current president of the United States, during a Cabinet Meeting, called US Representative Ilhan Omar "Garbage" (she is of Somali descent) and then said about the Somali population: "They contribute nothing. I don't want them in our country. Their country is no good for a reason, and I don't want them in our country."
So much for judging a person as an individual instead of as a class of people.
Somalis are garbage.
Irish are drunks.
Italians are thieves.
Jews are money hungry.
Asians are sneaky.
Civil lawyers are pernicious, and people from Hialeah are weird. (Ok, some depictions are truer than not).
We have a president who is spouting racist tropes as his way of leading by example. America 2025.

The Jewish Lawyers Association (new local bar group formed post-Gaza invasion) is hosting an event next week with “Friends of the IDF”. The speaker will talk about how Israel and the IDF did and does not violate international law. Location secret, attendees and questions prescreened.
Every lawyer and citizen has the right to espouse and promote whatever views they have, including on behalf of a foreign government and army, but a lot of prominent local civil law firms are sponsoring this event. I wonder if their client base feels the same way the firms apparently do about Israel and the IDF after witnessing the razing of Gaza and massacre of Gazans for two years, with no strategic gain for Israel whatsoever and the complete tanking of popular support for Israel in America.
Certainly educates me on the values of the firms sponsoring the event, which I guess is the point of sponsorship.
Kinda like how you spent the last ten years calling everyone who disagreed with you a nazi or remember the whole "you're a white male" insult the fat liberal women scream? Stop pretending you take the high road. Being nice and friendly to the left is over. You just don't know it yet.
Ain't easy being an immigration attorney right now.
Sounds good. Nice to have someone using their common sense and calling it like it is
This summer I spent a week in Minneapolis. There is a huge Somali population there. Every Uber driver was Somali. I would say 20 % of the Univ of Minnesota student body that I interacted with were Somali. Many of the airport workers were Somali. I really never met Somali people before. You know what? I found these people to be polite, patriotic and appreciative to be here, hard working and an obvious asset to the region. Now, at the same time I do not like Rep Ilhan Omar and agree that she projects a certain sense of anti American rhetoric, but that is just one person. I am completely offended at Trump's general categorization of a whole ethnicity. We are all children of immigrants. I am neither a fan of the Dems or the GOP so this post has nothing to do with politics. The current POTUS is an unabashed hate-monger ...which can't be good for anything. Don't judge someone if you have never walked in their shoes, I hung out with dozens of Somali men and woman and they made a strong and positive impression upon me. That is the only way to judge

They should call the event "I love genocide."
Might as well turn your clients in.

They’ll never admit they were brainwashed by terrorists.
There are a lot of medicare fraudsters in South Florida who came from Cuba. But we somehow don't see headlines about "Cuban Fraud" in South Florida. Nor should we. There are a lot of Jewish people who have committed Ponzi crimes. No "Jewish Fraudster" headlines. Nor should there be. Somalis? One of these things is not like the other.
How can they lead by example, when they try to “win at all cost”
First of all, there’s nothing more American than a Cuban and only an antisemite would call someone a “Jewish fraudster”. When it’s a Christian fraudster we don’t say “the episcopal fraudster or, the Methodist fraudster. The difference is they’re all Americans. Somali’s who are predominantly Muslim and mostly male, aren’t educated, aren’t skilled workers and don’t assimilate. That makes them transplants not immigrants.
I’m genuinely shocked by Trump’s blanket attack on Somali immigrants—calling a whole community garbage is ugly and wrong. But we can’t let anger at his words shut down an honest look at the bigger picture.Look, I know Emma Lazarus’s poem by heart. I grew up going to P.S. 268 in Brooklyn—the Emma Lazarus School—and we had to recite “The New Colossus” at practically every assembly. So yeah, I’m biased; those lines are baked into me. I get why they move people. But even I have to admit the “nation of immigrants” idea isn’t in the Constitution or the Declaration. It’s beautiful poetry added to the Statue of Liberty decades after it was built, not our founding charter. We’ve paused mass immigration before. The 1924 quotas shut things down for a generation so people already here could assimilate. It worked. What we got under Biden wasn’t policy; it was the deliberate gutting of the law. Mass parole, catch-and-release, and zero interior enforcement turned 8 U.S.C. § 1325 into a joke and gave us de facto open borders. The result? Overloaded schools, packed ERs, falling wages for working-class Americans, housing costs through the roof, and small towns that never signed up for any of this. You can love Lazarus’s poem, quote it like I still do, and still believe borders have to mean something. Real compassion starts with control, not chaos.
So why the demonization of Somalis and Haitians, but warm embrace of white South Africans and slavish invitations to Norwegians? This is not about immigration.
Immigration policy ought to prioritize what's best for the US—like boosting the economy, ensuring security, and keeping budgets in check. It's smart to seek immigrants from places with strong education and skills, such as Norway, Taiwan, Korea, and India. Folks from these countries often integrate quickly, bringing innovation and hard work without heavy reliance on public aid. Norwegian immigrants historically strengthened our farms and social systems; Taiwanese and Koreans have fueled tech and business booms; Indians excel in IT and medicine, generating billions in taxes and jobs. With millions of descendants, they show clear long-term gains for everyone. In contrast, Somali refugees create a net drain on taxpayers. Over 80% of their households depend on welfare like food stamps or Medicaid, with little drop-off after 10 years. In Minnesota, they cost $1.5 billion yearly, including 58% on benefits despite being a small group, plus fraud like the $1 billion stolen from child programs. This isn't about race—it's data-driven. High-welfare groups strain resources, while skilled immigrants deliver benefits. Policy should select for mutual gain, protecting taxpayers over unchecked entry that burdens citizens
Not everyone who disagrees with me is a Nazi, only the people who disagree with me about the fascist bullshit Trump and his administration are pulling are Nazis. Fuck being friendly. I look forward to seeing people like you tried in whatever the next version of the Nuremberg trials turns out to be. Fascist scum.
