RANDOM RUMPOLE

Good Saturday morning. This will be our weekend post.

There is a whiff of fall in these late summer mornings. Not in fetid and sweltering Miami, but here in Coeur D'Alene, Idaho, as we enjoy a mug of Unrivaled Boot Track Java to start our day.  We have some random thoughts.

The Lexicographic bible - Book of Saint Albans- calls a group lawyers "an eloquence of lawyers". The book was clearly written before the current population of our profession. But we are thinking of groups of lawyers because you may see new ones, wandering wide-eyed through the REGJB, stiff-fitting new suits and professional outfits, glancing at notes typed on iPhones, looking lost while trying to find "courtroom four hyphen three" or "judge deelayoh" or even worse, being told to find Judge Morphonious's courtroom for a meeting by some older prank playing colleague.

We speak of the new class of PDs and ASAs. Welcome! We say. Bienvenidos!  More on this soon.

Random Rumpole.

The Guardians is  dumb name for the Cleveland baseball team. We acknowledge the prior name was offensive to Native Americans and don't suggest to going back to that. But like the Washington Commanders Football team, both new names are complete whiffs. (That's twice we've used the word "whiff" in a post. Has to be a record).

How about "Advise and Consent" for the DC gridders? "It's third and four for Advise and Consent. They are 6 for 8 on third downs so far..."  Or even better ....The Filibusters! Something. Anything.

Fantasy Football is sold out! With everyone from last year back for a second run, there is no more room in our famed REJGB league, run by no nonsense commissioner "Iron Hand De la Over".  No Rumpolian 16 points for punts over 45 yards like in years gone by. A strict constructionist he, our commissioner is a PPR conservative.

If enough people send us emails and cajole us- at least 8- we will form a second league.

You can however enroll for the greatest ride of your football Sundays- Rumpole's  award winning, earth shaking, brief writing, cookie baking, leaf raking,  viagra taking..... E Street Band Survivor Pool.

Just send an email to FBpool12@gmail.com confirming whether you believe judges should abide by the presumption of innocence and you are in. Make one pick of one team every week.  That is all it takes to be an REGIB Champion. Last year's Champion Feet of Clay Kaeiser saw a 3000% increase in his social media following as he ascended to the top and he is now rumored to be an IG influencer. Who doesn't want to know what socks a Survivor Pool Champion wears?

NYC VS TEXAS GOVERNOR ABBOTT

There is a political chess match taking place across the country. Upset that we are a country of immigrants and he lives in a border state, TX Gov Abbott (Motto: "Welcome to Texas, now y'all skedaddle and leave") is busing immigrants to DC and NYC.

And according to the NY Times here, New York is welcoming the immigrants with open arms. NYC's  Commissioner of Immigrant Affairs  meets each bus with open arms, food, clothing, toys for children,  and free hotel room housing as immigrants are given a chance to get their feet under them and begin the important process of assimilation.

Bravo NYC. We can  cite Emma Lazarus' poem on the Statute of Liberty, but Governor Abbott and his Texans would dismiss is as just "some ramblings from another Central American Migrant....".   Or as they like to say "We don read here un Texas, we do...an we speak darn great English as wells  as y'alls Yankees.

Double Bravo NYC. You called their buff. We'll take NYC over Texas any day (but sorry NYC delis, Texas has you beat in brisket.)

Enjoy your summer weekend. We are going for a hike.

Very IRONIC Rumpole.

All this liberal left wing talk about “welcoming the immigrants” from Mexico and Latin America and Haiti.

BUT - Coeur d'Alene, Idaho is the “White supremacist capital of America!”

White people from all over America ESCAPE to go there to not be around all of the undocumented immigrants and people of color.

But alas, I’ll bet you are there for the beautiful lake, trout fishing, and a quiet place in front of your roaring fireplace to read Friedrich Nietzsche, Franz Kafka and Fyodor Dostoyevsky. Perhaps a round of golf at the “white only” Gozzer Ranch Country Club!

Random people we know nothing about show up at our border in large numbers. The current policy is to let everyone in. Without any deterrence, and the demonization of deportation by libs, the numbers at the border have skyrocketed. Texas always has, and continues to this day, to handle a disproportionate share of these migrants, paying for schooling, health care, etc. Texas is merely sending a minuscule number of the migrants to NYC, a place overwhelmingly favoring open borders, abolishing ICE, and even advertising for more migrants by becoming a sanctuary city.

When conservatives argue mass migration is expensive to our communities, libs always lecture us how migration is a net economic benefit.

This is a win win! If you are open border and sanctuary city, why on earth would you criticize Texas?????

rump: do better!

There is no doubt an element here that leaves me feeling uneasy. The water is beautiful and most of the people are very friendly. But a lot of "don't tred on me" flags, and of course they have no idea about the origin of the slogan.

I do go here to read and be left alone. I do not know about the "whites only" golf club, and would not play in such a place. I could overlook a "no judges" restriction on the links. Plus I didn't bring my clubs.
But the weather is great. The fish and all the food is fresh and you can't beat the coffee.
I've spent a lot of time in cities lately. I just needed a place to decompress.

11:56 am- how many "random people" that we knew nothing about arrived on ships passing underneath the statute of Liberty at the turn of the last century? Several million at least and perhaps your ancestors. Mine arrived in 1850. I can document the first one.

And here's the thing. The uneducated and ignorant of 120 years ago felt exactly the same way you do now. And how did it work out? They pretty much gave birth to the greatest generation that won two world wars and built and economic engine of democracy that is the envy of the world and led to landing a man on the moon. Yup- German immigrants designed those rockets that launched the capsules into space. So pretty much unless you're a native American, STFU because they are the only ones with a real gripe about their land and country being taken away from them.

I pretty much criticize Texas because of mmmmm....Ted Cruz. I mean res ipsa on him. And ummm...their treatment of immigrants and people of color. The Texas I admire, the spirit of wildcatting and capitalism embodied by GHWB, who returned to the US after being the youngest fighter pilot in the Pacific in WWII and tried his hand at drilling far from the influence of his father- that spirit and those type of people pretty much have died off with him and his wife.

The one thing I agree with Rumpole on is...Texas needs to send the highly sought after migrants to Idaho. Sounds like a beautiful place. Maybe they could bring a copy of the Emma Lazarus poem.
Is that other hypocrite Gavin Newsome still there?

To me, they will always be the Cleveland Indians and the Washington Redskins. And the football station in Miami Gardens, will always be Joe Robbie Stadium, no matter what name they want to call it.

Democrat here. We can’t accept too many immigrants from the same place at the same time. It will result in backlash like we saw in Europe a few years ago in connection with Syrian refugees, paving the way for another populist movement. Can you imagine a city that welcomes an influx of refugees from the same country? It won’t feel like America anymore. Our visa lottery is designed to ensure diversity while eliminating backlash. As for the comment that Democrats want to abolish ICE and open the borders, that’s not true. Republicans are the ones that hate the FBI and police and hate our Constitution.

Hey fake illegal immigrant-- read this---

To the fake illegal immigrant, does this mean that everyone who lives in Idaho is racist because it is the “White supremacist capital of America!?"

Our dipshit Governor banned abortions, does that mean that anyone who comes to visit Florida is pro-life?

Why doesn’t New York seize and forfeit the buses? Come up with some violation of law and seize them for the “ Texas immigrant trust” or something?

seize the buses? for what? lol

We do not have open immigration, we have controlled immigration. I say bus them back to Texas.

But the laws in place unfairly favor wealth and certain groups and areas over others. The Republicans refuse to negotiate any meaningful reform, having decided instead it was politically advantageous to criticize the Democrats rather than reform a system they know isn't working well. That is what is disingenuous and hypocritical. But that's their game. Its all about name-calling and rhetoric rather than dialogue and compromise. Newt Gingrich started this, Fox News made a fortune off it, and the result is what we have today: gridlock.

Lt. Governor Nunez this weekend in Miami said that Florida should start busing people who enter illegally to D.C. or NYC. Within hours she corrected herself and said that didn’t include Cubans because they are political refugees and entitled to amnesty.
By the way Gov. DeSaint might stop looking at Texas’ international border and look at FLA’s. Does he know Florida has 1,350 miles of coastline. Just go out in any direction a few miles and your at the international border. Boatloads of people are stopped weekly by Border Patrol and the Coast Guard and returned from whence they came. Haitians, Dominicans , Venezuelans and Cubans All are repatriated

What was the point of announcing gleefully to the world that you are a "sanctuary city" if not that you should be the destination for the millions and millions crossing our southern border?

I think Abbot should commence a kind of above-ground-railroad, and send every last border crosser to NYC, to Boston, to SF, and to any other sanctuary cities. These poor souls deserve sanctuary.

Given the absolute truism that Diversity Is Our Strength, just think how STRONG these cities will become with all that cultural enrichment.

It is sad Rump vacations in such a culturally weak state like Idaho. Such missed opportunities to participate in Diversity. I eagerly await his decision to do his reading in Camden, NJ, next summer. It's a bit like all the celebs who vow, every four years, to move to Canada, the whitest (= weakest) country in North America should a Republican be elected. Missed opportunity on their part to move to Guatemala.

@353

"Can you imagine a city that welcomes an influx of refugees from the same country?" Um...yes, we all live here.

As for your follow up comment "It won’t feel like America anymore," and comparison to Europe, therein lies the problem. Countries like Germany, France, or Japan, those countries are defined by a nation of people. Germany for Germans, whether it is ruled by the Emperor, the Fuhror, or a democratically elected Chancellor. That is NOT what the US is.

The US is a country based on ideas, among those that ALL MEN are created equal, that we have the freedom of speech (which must mean the right to use the words/languages of our choice), the freedoms from (establishment) and of religion (free exercise), etc. This is a country of the people, by the people, and for the people - whomever those people may be.

There is no language, religion, color, creed, accent, way of dressing, music, food, or anything else that characterizes "feel[ing] like America." And my friend, if you don't see that, you have missed the point of this country.

The United States is not easy and it is not designed for its high functionality. If you want a highly functional government, then perhaps visit China and see how you like it. They seem to have figured out efficiency and prosperity in a hurry.
