JUDGE THORNTON RESIGNS

Football coaches have coaching trees: assistant coaches who worked under a head coach who then become head coaches in their own right.

Judge Federico Moreno has a judicial tree. The judiciary is populated with former clerks and law partners of Judge Moreno, who entered private practice after leaving the federal public defenders office and starting the climb to CJ of the SDFLA (county court, where he famously issued a BW for a Dolphins star wide receiver and then wrote on the document "do not arrest on Sundays"; circuit court, federal district court, and a nomination to the 11th Circuit before Bill Clinton upset his plans by beating GHWB). The number of judges on the bench in South Florida who worked with him or as his clerk speaks to Judge Moreno's  influence and caring as a friend and mentor. Foremost in the Judge Moreno judical tree was Judge John Thornton, who along with 3rd DCA Judge Kevin Emas,  was partners with Judge Moreno in private practice in an era before cell phones and eight dollar cups of coffee.
After a distinsguished career as a circuit court judge, and a couple of brushes with a federal judicial nomination, Judge Thornton has hung up the robes and resigned. As of this writing, the reasons are unknown, but the judiciary and South Florida will miss his wisdom, judicial temperament, and abilities as a wise and experienced judge. We wish him well in his future endeavors.

SURVIVOR POOL
The Rams let a lot of players down this week. One player DQ'd and one just got in under the MNF wire. We shall see. 13 solider on to week 5.

Damn! And I always thought Mozart was a general in the German army when they bombed Pearl Harbor.

Judge Kevin Emas was in that same “judicial tree.”

Cap Out .....

Rump! Dig on Thornton. It has taken a lot of people by surprise. There is more there. Coordinating an impeachment defense? A lucrative partnership in a arbitration firm?
Inquiring minds want to know.

Good riddance to Colby and Wizeman in the survivor pool. The former ticket judge can run his string of Chicken Delights in Sheboygan, Wisconsin, feeding high calorie fried meat to fat americans, and Wizeman can ….do whatever he does tooling around town in a Maybach.

FYI: Judge Thornton is going to JAMS. His last day on the bench is January 3, then he immediately starts at JAMS.

Moreno Coaching Tree
Thornton - Emas - Arzola - Ruiz

Hard to beat.

I wouldn't characterize that Kevin and John are from the judicial tree of Moreno. In fact they are all branches of the same tree. They were law partners before Fred and Kevin decided to don the black robes. Leaving Rothman and John behind. Later, John decided to join the black robe society himself. In my experience, Emmas and Thornton were much better judges than Fred even though Fred has fancy courtroom and chambers and has the prestige of being a "FED". JAMS is not really a great mediation firm. I used them once and although they served a nice lunch, ( at our expense) they wasted at least an hour making all attending do a "sharing time" of their life with the others. But I wish John well. Emmas and David are GATORS and having a great year so far, while Fred and John are ND and got beat by an SEC team once again.

Whoever made that stupid comment about Weisman and Colby must be an idiot. Those guys are two of the most successful people I know. Weisman gallivants around the world eating only Michelin Star meals with gorgeous women. Colby is doing just fine.

What a terrible loss. Thornton is the best!

Wait. Weisman has a Maybach? Weisman eats at Michielin restaurants? What does Colby do? Is he still a Judge? What does he drive? Where does he eat? Nice man.

Totally agree that Moreno is overrated.

Judge Browns - is he a real or fake Judge? I would appreciate it if you could clarify this for me.
