BENCH AND BAR

Here's the latest updates on judicial movements:

Cuesta for Colodny (3-4)
Schlessinger for Hanzman
Hendon for Hersch
Walsh for De La O
Cueto for Pooler

NB: All trades are not final until approved by the commissioner's office.

Why not join some of the judges who don't want to go, and help them drown their sorrows at a Bench/Bar Mixer?

Here's a gem from family court:

Q. Are you married?
A. No, I'm divorced.
Q. And what did your husband do before you divorced him?
A. A lot of things I didn't know about.

From Occupied America, go drink with a Judge and Fight the Power.

Judge Lisa Walsh is the most brilliant and first class Judge. She is awesome.

Cuesta is not nearly qualified to be a real judge. Keep her in Hialeah doing tickets.

Colodny will be a tremendous loss if she leaves.

Overall the changes are bad for defendants in Miami Dade. Very Pro-State judges coming

Was hoping to get Ruiz back for Hanzman. At least we’ll see him again in the feds.

Like Walsh, very intelligent woman. Cuesta is awful. Thought Milian and Millan were supposed to be leaving. I don't know which one is worse, although at least Milian is intelligent. And then there's Zilber. There's a guy they need to get rid of, anyone else visit this guy's courtroom? Judge Fonts is also pretty awful, but he has been very pleasant as far as I can tell.

Judge De La O, you will be missed.

When are they switching? January or before?

MARTIN ZILBER is going by Order of the Chief Judge to lead a new division of Complex Civil litigation. Congratulations.

I think the comments about Judge Cuesta are unfair. I have appeared before her on two occasions when she ruled against me. I found her to be prepared, courteous, and efficient.
As for all of these guys being pro-state, I was before Judge Cueto when he mistried a case and sicharged the defendant because he ruled that jeopardy had attached four words into the state's opening statement when they violated one of his pre-trial orders. It was a ballsy call, and it took him all of 20 seconds to make up his mind. I find his police background to be helpful. He knows when those lying creeps are lying and doesn't tolerate it.
Losing Judges Hersch, Hanzman, and de la O is really tough, but Judge Hersch will hopefully be back within the year and he is one of the most popular judge in Juvenile; his replacement, Judge Hendon, is a well-tempered, excellent judge who has been missed. Maybe we will be lucky and get more of them back but we have some quality judges coming in.
As for Judge Milian, everybody is entitled to his or her judicial philosophy. He is efficient, bright, and very capable. I will take that happily.
