WE REMOVED A POST AGAIN AND WE APOLOGIZE TO JUDGE CHARLIE JOHNSON

For the second time in a month we removed a post put up by a guest blogger.

FIRST WE NEED TO APOLOGIZE TO JUDGE CHARLIE JOHNSON.

Judge Johnson was wrongly mentioned in the post as  judge who had done something incorrect for which the 3rd DCA criticized him but couldn't grant a writ of prohibition.  We will have more on this case in the next post.

This information was 100% completely wrong and we apologize to Judge Charlie Johnson.
We know Judge Johnson to be an outstanding judge. The type of judge who tops our list of Judges we want tough cases assigned to. How do we know this? We've never appeared before judge Johnson. But we knew him as a prosecutor and he was as fine and honest a prosecutor as you will ever meet anywhere and knowing him in that regard we know for certain that he is as fine a judge as there is in this county.

Now on to bigger issues:

Running a blog is not  as easy as it looks.
Oh sure there are the glory days when a Broward judge gets popped for a DUI but how many times can that happen?  (Ok, bad example.)

The fact of the matter is that we are acutely aware that the quality of our writing and popularity has made any posting on this blog a media event that normally will get your name into a very high google ranking.

To quote  Lincoln, with great power comes great responsibility.
Or maybe it was Herbert Hoover.

Providing interesting content day in and day out is somewhat of a herculean if not sisyphean effort. So we use guest bloggers and sometimes that bites us in the butt. Like today.

The fact of the matter is we have carved an identity in this market and we appreciate you, the reader, and to the extent guest blogging lets you, us, and the blog down, we bear the final responsibility for mistakes.

So as difficult as this is, we will not longer allow guest bloggers to post items without us reviewing them first. Quite frankly we are busy beyond belief.  We were in court through about 5 pm and it was only during a break when our email exploded that we realized there was a blog issue. This won't occur again. That is our promise to you. We will review and approve all posts.

Thank you for being a reader.

HR.

We didn't post your comment about the judge involved. First- NO it is not ok to put up a post and accuse judge Johnson for something he didn't do. BUT- we've lost all credibility on this issue. Better we leave it alone. Which is what we decided to do.

I'm glad you guys are apologizing to Judge Johnson. That was a major mistake. But the judge who actually deserves to be called out for his behavior gets to yet again rest on his laurels?? That's ridiculous.

Can you accept for the moment that we are just a mite bit gun shy and don't want to...to use a legal term...FUCK THIS UP AGAIN. We have a pretty good idea who the judge is. But we need to confirm it. We're sure Ovalle and the Herald will have an article out tomorrow.

Confirm it? How hard is that? Go onto the clerk's website for that ruling, you'll see that the case is in Judge Alberto Milian's division... and that Milian denied the motion for disqualification. Or do you want to let Ovalle become a guest blogger?

The power and responsibility quote is variously attributed to Winston Churchill, FDR and Ben Parker, Spiderman's uncle.

Yeah we know. It's called humor.

Isn't it fun to run an anonymous legal blog where you derive no income or credit?

Someone please make the argument AGAINST a judge DQing himself when it is a close call. Why even risk the blowback?

Sincere question.

Is it because judges feel bad shuffling work off on a peer? Is it embarrassing among their peer group? Does it provide ammo to potential future candidates? ("Judge X had to DQ on 5 cases! He's not fit!")

I just dont see why you wouldnt err on the side of DQ if there were a scintilla of a reason.

Dear Rumpole,

I am sorry to learn of this.

Rumpy, I'm not one to tell you how to wring your blog but you need to unmask the poster who defamed Judge Johnson. And of course ban that person from blogging on your site.

Imagine.

Imagine if the lawyer who calls himself "the perfessor" is so sloppy, so reckless, so unfocused on detail, to make such a basic, stupid mistake, what a shitty lawyer that person is.

And if he is really a perfessor, how sad that he "educates' students.

Hack. All around hack.

Charlie is above it all, as always.

I know Charlie Johnson, Sir, and you are no Charlie Johnson.

Rump, Don't kick yourself too much. As Forrest Gump said Sh"it Happens." You did the correct thing to remove the post, apologize and remedy the situation. Anyone (other than Judge Johnson) still have a problem with it then oh well.
