NO SOUP FOR YOU

Time was you could handle your court calendar, take a break, get a pastellito and a shot of Cuban coffee or a cafe con leche and then jump back into action at the REGJB.

That was before "Miami Dade County Internal Services Department" (motto: "controlling your access to food throughout the County since 1974") got into the act.

Now? Nada.
Your Government at work.

Subject: RE: REGB Food Service - Information about Empowered Youth/Vibe 305 Food Truck

We have been able to confirm at least one food truck for Monday and Tuesday, and are working on others. We have a good contact for food truck opportunities that is helping us get the word out. They know that those days are your busiest but we are seeking others to be available every day.

Attached is a list of nearby restaurants that we will be distributing Monday – we have verified the hours and delivery options available with each.

The Snack Bar in Room 120 is ready, the vendor is getting organized today and will be open for business on Monday.  We will continue staying on top of the buildout so we can get you your restaurant back in business as soon as possible!

Rumpole ponders:
1) Why is Miami-Dade County Internal Services on Instagram? What pictures could they possibly have that we need to see?
"Here are the curtains we installed in the ante-room of the office of the assistant to the director of the office of Miami-Dade Fax-machines, calculators, inter-office mail,  and modems." ? (Motto: "Proudly connecting Miami-Dade employees with each other since 1965").

2) It wasn't  that long ago that Miami-Dade was grumbling about food trucks, the need for special licenses, and police officers were making arrests and prosecutors were threatening to file enhancements (serving  a burger without fries is a serious offense, requiring written permission from two supervisors to waive the minimum mandatory.)
Now, all of the sudden, its Ms. Cheezious to the rescue. (our favourite food truck. she is the best. We have her cell so we can order ahead.).

3) Read the email carefully. "Build out"; efforts by Miami-Dade to get the job done quickly.  Prediction: There will be no Food-service replacing Au Bon Pain in the REGJB before January 1, 2016, and February is probably a better bet.

Look at the papers they print the felony calendars on. 1960's IBM-type computer paper. Lord knows where they even get it anymore. But since Miami-Dade just upgraded the beepers they give their employees, there is light at the end of the tunnel.

Until then, it might not be a bad idea to start that protein-shake diet you were putting off until after the holidays.

See you in court. Grouchy without our colada.

Take our new poll.

I'm so freaking hooked on that Au bon pain southwestern tuna wrap with chipolte mayo that I drove downtown to an au bon pain today and ordered a dozen of em for the week.

Great post. The old Rumpole, wheeling and dealing and skewering everyone and that bit with the email is hysterical. I bet you thought it would be a while before anyone noticed.

Report from ground zero. After intensive hard work by your Dade county government- there are exactly ZERO food trucks outside the REGJB this morning. Yesterday there were rumors a pizza truck drove by and tossed a few breadsticks to starving jurors before being told by an alert city of Miami police officer to "move it along".
Your government hard at work demonstrating the efficiency we all strive for.

The new Jimmy John's more than makes up for the loss of ABP - hell, the loss of ABP by itself is probably a net gain. And lord knows most of the denizens of the justice building could use the three block walk.

What do you expect from a county that doesn't even have something as simple as wi-fi in the REGB? Who knows what the procurement process for a new vendor looks like under the table? Ten years ago, Luis Garcia (the REGB retired electrician, RIP) had apparently won the bidding and was going to open a restaurant with the favorite foods of the different ethnic groups that vist or work in the REGB, but in typical Miami-Dade County fashion, the county awarded it to Au Bon Pain in the end and we got crappy and expensive food instead.

Good call on the Dolphin game. You only missed it by 31 points.

What about the blog survivor football pool? Winners? Losers?

Please!

I heard they just awarded the restaurant to Alphonso Sepe!

It will be called "BUCA DE SEPE"

Delicious red sauce and Meatball Fridays.

Oh no, no one is in the building on Friday right?

C'mon man! What is wrong with a sausage dog with greasy cooked onions and mustard, a bag of chips and a Diet Coke for breakfast? Man up. It is the breakfast of champions.

Posting this on the free wifi in the Palm Beach Courthouse right now, enjoying my cappuccino and back massage. I dont know why you guys stay in Dade. Crumbling, cancer-causing courthouse. Bondsmen who control 80% of the criminal cases. 35 year old judges who get elected because of their ethnicity. And a dozen crim defense lawyers on every corner, driving fees down by quoting $599 for felonies. I get that juries down there acquit a lot, but really -- why are you still in Dade? At this point, its your own damn fault.

Professor,
you do know the rule about the hot dog carts , don't you?
Only buy from the carts that have a lady operating it. They have to go inside the Justice building to go to the bathroom, so it is more likely they washed their hands afterwards compared to the male vendors.

Why are you in the palm beach court house at 5:15. And why are you drinking cappuccino after 10:30am. Show some decency

Another day. No food trucks. Going to Joes take out for lunch. Give the give a fiver to jump the line and get an extra stone crab.

If Al Sepe opened a restaurant, it would serve calamari like Buccione's.

But, there is a mini café in the office next to the first floor elevator.

BTW.... I caught the email list with Putin and Trump on the list. Very cute of you Rumpy.

Im still laughing at you guys in Dade. Pay a bondsman 33% of your fee today? Wait an hour for a millennial judge to show up for arraignments so you could get back to your office before 11AM? Walk through Lot 26 (where you pay $100 a month, but which was full of cop cars) to find your car ticketed on 14th Avenue, and hope you avoid the gridlock on the 836?

Wait for your 11AM appointment, but after a no-show find out a ticket lawyer has already filed an NOA on the case?

Well... time to call the bondsman again, offer 40%. Just before you call the SAO to bargain with a 25 year old prosecutor.

Why are you in Dade again?
