JUDGE MARY BARZEE NOMINATED TO FEDERAL COURT

THE CAPTAIN REPORTS:

BREAKING NEWS ..............

JUDGE MARY BARZEE FLORES HAS BEEN NOMINATED TO THE FEDERAL BENCH

Numerous news agencies are reporting that President Barack Obama has nominated Barzee Flores to an open seat in the Southern District of Florida.  (This is the open seat from when Robin Rosenbaum was elevated from the District Court bench to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 11th Circuit).

Judge Barzee started her career as an associate with the law firm of Sonnett, Sale & Kuehne and she worked there for two years before becoming an Assistant Federal Public Defender from 1990 - 2003.  She then ran unopposed for Circuit Court Judge in 2002 and won a seat on the Circuit bench in Miami-Dade County and served there from 2003 - 2011.  (She won reelection in 2008 without opposition).  While on the bench, she served in both the Criminal Division and the General Jurisdiction Division as well as having the honor to sit by designation on the 4th DCA.  She resigned from the bench and joined the law firm of Stearns, Weaver where she concentrates her practice in commercial litigation and arbitration.  She also serves as a private judge, arbitrator, special master, and umpire in appraisal disputes. She is a UM law school graduate.

The two finalists who did not make the cut were U.S. Magistrate Judge Barry Seltzer and Circuit Court Judge Peter Lopez.

Good luck to Judge Barzee as she makes her way inside the beltway and through the confirmation process.

Another political appointment. She knew that the power of Gene Stearns, his wife and their democratic cronies would get her this seat. Kudos for a move worthy of Leslie Rothenberg's move to the former Steele Hector.

Great choice however either of the other two candidates would have also been excellent. Congratulations and hopefully she won't have a problem being confirmed.

Good for her

I think if you want to sign your real name to the comment critisizing the nominee then I will post it. Or contact the senate judiciary committee. But to just take potshots at her now seems a little unseemingly.

The Professor reports:

Spock is dead. Leonard Nimoy died at home today from Chronic Pulmonary Disease, due to the his smoking habit, even though he had given it up 3 decades ago.

For Boomers, this is a significant loss. I am sure his last words were: "Live long and prosper."

I am wildly biased bc i worked with her for years at SSK...having said that, she is brilliant, connected, authentic and compassionate...An excellent choice and am excited for her and also for the attorneys and clients who get to appear before her...lets do our best to support her to move through the appointment process.

Finally not feeling the "anonymous" posting regarding the "fantasy" of the appointment being political...

She will be great. She has learned a lot from the great ones she's worked with over the years, and that's apparent in her judicial disposition and philosophy. She has made a lot of people proud, and she should be herself.

I was thinking that his last words more likely were:

"Beam me up Scotty".

Come on 6:15 -- she's eminently qualified and will make a great judge.

Don't panic about Leonard Nimoy. He'll be interred on the planet Genesis, be resurrected and we'll see him on the third installment "The Search for Spock". It'll all work out.

The greatest Barzee quote ever:

"Mr Kostrewzki, there is no basis in law or reality for your subpoena"

Congrats!

Touche, Cap. That probably is more appropriate.

Indeed. But equally unseemly as annonymously taking pot shots at sitting judges.

2:45, you don't know Leonard Nimoy aka Spock. His last word on this world was more likely: "Fascinating."

I hope he will live long and prosper in the next life. Mr. Nimoy was a gentle, kind and intelligent soul who made life better for many people.

What's going on with Judge Ungaro?

Anonymous said...

By Dan Christensen, FloridaBulldog.org, Special to EyesOnNews.com, Feb 26, 2015 – A dozen years ago, Miami U.S. District Judge Ursula Ungaro sentenced Martin Chambers to 15 years in prison after a two-week trial at which a jury found him guilty in a scheme to launder millions of dollars for a Colombian drug cartel. Chambers, a Canadian, remains imprisoned today.

For years, hushed allegations have swirled that Judge Ungaro slept with the government’s key witness in the case – a dashing Royal Canadian Mounted Police undercover agent

Ungaro’s ex-husband, who claims the affair ruined his marriage, first made the scandalous allegations along with related assertions about alleged misconduct by an FBI agent and a federal prosecutor.
