We gave you the Fins and the Chiefs on Turkey Day. Now for Sunday we dish up these potatos:
Lay the 4 and take the Jets and under 40 as Houston visits the up n down Jets. (Get it? Jets go up and down?)
Chicago gets 3 while visiting the Patriots. Readers of these picks know our disdain for the Bears. They haven’t done nuttin yet. They don’t do nuttin Sunday. Pats roll.
Carolina giving the Redskins 4 on the road. Skins having a worse year than the republicans. Go Cats. They cover.
Bengals giving Browns 1 at the mistake on the lake. Browns mistake was fielding team this season. Cleveland cures what ails the Bengals. Go Cats. They cover.
When you see something that is not right, not fair, find a way to get in the way and cause trouble. Congressman John Lewis

Seen about town:
I didn't see it, but I heard Judge elect Don Cohn did just dandy on a cable TV station this past Thursday.
I didn't see it, but is it true about Kotzin and Gwen Stefani in LA this past week.
What do Vermont, Miami, and Pennsylvania have in common?
Pennsylvania has the outgoing Chairman of the Senate Judiciary Panel; Vermont has the incoming Chariman of the Senate Judiciary Panel.
And Miami has one soon out of work Judge Ivan Hernandez, ready for a "lifetime" of work.
You heard it here first.
LEAVE POOR IVAN ALONE HAVE WE NOT BEAT UP ON THIS POOR FELLA ENOUGH?
CAN'T WE ALL JUST GET ALONG!
2008 MIGNA!!
Corrupt Miami
Miami is the only place where the director of the Christmas program for the public schools stole the money. The director of the oldest and richest Homeless charity program stole $500,000. The director of the oldest AIDS program disappeared with the programs funds. A Chief of Police stole $78,000 from a charity. Another Chief's son was arrested for dealing 400 pounds of marijuana. This is Miami, worse than any Banana Republic.
then leave. Today would be a good day to do that.
According to the NY Times, Miami is losing the 25-34 age group to other cities. Atlanta is in the lead. This group is allegedly important because once they do settle down, they tend to stay. Thus it becomes a zero sum game between cities for the next generation.
There are so many things wrong about the article in our local fishwrap on the JAC money problem, I would not know where to begin. Is it too much to ask to have a lawyer familiar with the issues write or assist with the article?
HERE IS YOUR CHANCE AT TRUE GREATNESS FOR RUMPOLE AND HIS BLOG. The State of Florida has many priorities above and beyond abiding by the 6th Amendment to the U.S.Constitution.Why don't you step up to the plate and have all your blogger friends come up with all the waste in the state and county government which the State feels supercedes the representation of the poor and payment of the people in the system. I believe the Justice system in Florida, 1/3 of the three branches of governement accounts for less than 5% of the State Budget. I bet illegal aliens receive more money in health care and section 8 housing. Here is your chance at greatness Rumpole. Expose the fact that we are grossly underpaid and now the poor will suffer with experienced attorneys no longer willing to work for peanuts and having to wait months AFTER THE CASE IS FINISHED to be PAID. Name one other entity in the State that works for free for 8 months or a year before seeing a dime. Judges get 12000 a months, KFR and BB the same. Do a murder case for the state, get death threats, stress, criticism etc. and don't get paid and have to live off savings and credit. I thought in the gubernatorial campaign they said the state was swimming in money because of all the people who are moving here-Crist said he will cut taxes and raise Homestead. THE BUDGET FOR THE COURT SYSTEM SHOULD BE TRIPLED and spending 75 million a year on a bullit train study is an example of why SAPDS, COURT REPORTERS ETC. are told to f themselves. I've tried to f myself-I'm not that flexible anymore but I will settle for the thousands the state has owed me for 6 months. By the way, aren't we the attorneys who keep chaos from happening- there aren't many super rich clients with super rich attorneys and that is usually federal court. WE ARE THE SYSTEM. PERHAPS WE SHOULD STRIKE?
I am self-employed and have never been on the court appointed list, and probably never will be. Although I won't state my age, I promise you I am A LOT younger than probably all of the people complaining about the issue of the state not having funds to pay SAPD's. Maybe it is time to depend on yourself, instead of others. It is the same issue that I witnessed in law school where daddy was giving my classmates their $5,000 monthly "allowance" in their mid-20's. I have supported myself from a VERY YOUNG age. Maybe it is time for all of you to did the same!
12:47-It's my guess you are not on the wheel because you don't have sufficient trials to qualify for appointments. Too bad. Many Lawyers accept appointments as a type of community service. Anyone who relies only upon appointments for income will be back at the PD's office befor Rory finishes his second danish of the morning. We ar all very excited that you support yourself....good luck Mr. Successful.
Rumpole, your comment about the NY times article is misleading. You make it seem like lots of younger people are simply leaving Miami and heading to Atlanta. The article was talking about lots of cities, both big and small, NY, miami, philadelhia, etc. and the problems they have losng the 24-34 age group to other "up and coming" cities. I wish more people would leave Miami. I can come up with a list of people who should go.
The voters let themselves be conned by Alex Penelas and the county mayors who wanted to "transfer" the justice system costs to the State. Now the counties give more to the State and receive a lot less than under the previous system. Who's to blame? The voters who don't research what they are voting for and the majority of voters who don't bother to go out and vote.
the bottom line is this:
1. the court appointed system was never meant to be a sole source of income,
2. Those who take appointments as a supplement to their practice and income dont care that much about payment issues.
3. Those that live off court appointments (except for death penalty lawyers) should understand that this is what happens when you rely on the goverment for funds (in any capacity)
4. Nothing will significantly change unless all lawyers stop taking appointments.
5. #4 will never happen.
to the 12:47 fool.
I take court appointed cases. I also get private cases.
I too am self-employed. I took out
loans for law school and college, which I am paying back myself not mommy or daddy. I started out after college making 19K as a social worker trying to make ends meet in New York City.
I now support a wife and child, pay a mortgage and pay all sorts of other bills as well. I earn my own money and I pay my own bills.
So why do you say that I am relying on others but not yourself?
Aren't we both relying on getting paid for the work we do on these
criminal cases. You are relying on
getting your private clients to pay your bills, while I am relying on both private clients and the
state to pay my bills.
Get a clue before you speak.
if you started laying down $ on rumps picks you wouldnt have to rely on getting paid from the jac.
They say you should never discuss religion or politics. I say those two subjects don't hold a candle to money.
As to the reader's call to my greatness. Some are born to greatness, others have it thrust upon them; I blog.
and try a case now and then.
ummm 4-1 today in picks. 1-0 on over/under. Gave you the Jets and under; picked the winner in the tough Chicago/Patriots game. This is an amazing roll I find myself on. I should charge for this service.
TO 12:47 WITH SUCH A CHARMING PERSONALITY I CAN UNDERSTAND WHY YOU HAVE HAD TO SUPPORT YOURSELF FROM SUCH A YOUNG AGE. NOT DOING COURT APPOINTMENTS IN MIAMI MEANS YOU AREN'T IN THE GAME BECAUSE ALMOST ALL OF THE MOST COMPLICATED FELONY CASES END UP IN SAPD HANDS AS COURT APPOINTMENTS. YOU CAN'T CUT THE MUSTARD- JUDGE'S DON'T CALL YOU TO BE THE 3RD OR 5TH ATTORNEY WITH A DIFFICULT CLIENT, CONFESSIONS, WILLIAMS RULE, DNA ETC. STICK TO TRAFFIC TICKETS. ARE YOU HIDNERT BY ANY CHANCE?
