The Miami Herald / Chuck Rabin broke the story this morning around 2 am that Miami Dade Police Director Freddy Ramirez shot himself early this morning while driving back from Tampa. There is no firm report on his condition other than he is in the hospital.
You can also follow developments on Twitter ( soon to become X, but that's a story for another time) with @chuckrabin and @davidovalle305 (because you can take the reporter out of Miami but not the Miami out of the reporter).
This is a breaking story and we will update as needed.
Yup. Well trained, high-ranking cop shoots himself by accident.
ReplyDeleteBut no problem, let's give untrained school teachers guns for the classroom . . . for safety.
So sad. Hope it was accidental, but the facts look grim.
ReplyDeleteOn a side note, congrats to Stu Adelstein for a mistrial in a Death Penalty case in Broward after jury deadlocked.
ReplyDeleteWe are defense lawyers. Many of us have issues with some cops but, we all should hope Freddie gets better and works all of this out.
ReplyDeleteThis developing story has unrolled one horrible fact after another: altercation with wife of 28 years; asked to vacate hotel where Sheriffs' Assn meet going on; "critical but stable"; and then the awfulness of hearing that the shot was to Director Ramirez's head.
ReplyDeleteYet, the first comment on this blog was 8.47's: as though the two concepts were related, and even as though Director Ramirez had a thing to do with the Legislature's idiocies.
There is nothing we can do for Director Ramirez or his family, but send our condolences. So let us do that.
