POWER OUT AT FDC

This is a breaking story. The power is out at FDC Monday morning. Most likely it's one of those things where managers are looking at each other holding the FPL bill, each saying "I thought you paid it last month".

Without power, those electric doors do not work. So visitation is canceled as of this writing at 10 am.

Meanwhile, take a moment today and pause and think about those brave men, 78 years ago today, jumping into Normandy, France, and landing on boats to free Europe from what Winston Spencer Churchill called "the odious grip of the Nazis"

  1. Lot here to chew on. "In 1940 Germany fielded the best and most professional army in the world." Probably true but it is close. The French army was right up there with the Germans. They got caught by surprise through no fault of their soldiers. The Germans were very lucky. Ironically, if that is the correct word, the German military of the day was similar to the Israeli military post 1967. Maybe not the strongest in overall numbers but not something you want to test your mettle against.

  2. Au contrare mon ami. The French army was woefully unprepared, it was ten years behind on technological advances and its leadership was awful. They had a very fine reputation before being invaded. But Germany went through France like a hot knife through butter.

  3. The French were prepared for WW1 in 1940, not WW2.
