Queen Elizabeth the Second celebrates her 70th year on the throne of England this Sunday. It's called the Platinum Jubilee and we are all in on the celebrations including our purchase of this piece of unusual memorabilia:
(jubilee is spelled wrong but an Inverted Jenny this is not)
The Queen has met with every British Prime Minister since Winston Spencer Churchill and every US President since she assumed the throne BUT ONE.
Trivia: which POTUS did not meet QEII? (hint- it's not the last one). And don't be technical, she is meeting with J Biden this weekend for tea.
Some fun facts:
Royal protocol prohibits the monarch from eating anything with her fingers except afternoon tea. Which means that she eats a hamburger (no bun for her), bananas, pineapples, and grapes with a knife and fork just the way George Costanza ate a Snickers Bar.
Check back over the weekend for more fun QEII facts including Rumpole's life long obsession to become an OBE.
This is just a wild guess based on the extremes of their lifestyles and personalities, but I say LBJ
ReplyDeleteI'd say it was Truman, simply because he was in office less than a year after Elizabeth assumed the throne, so there was not much time for him to meet her before handing off the football to Ike. Back then even presidents didn't just hop across the pond as easily as they can now. And besides, he was more than twice her age at the time, what would they have to talk about?
ReplyDeleteDid anyone else pick up the inverted Jenny (JN-4)? Any philatelists?
ReplyDeleteIf was LBJ. Not sure why he missed out other than it was turbulent times.
ReplyDeleteTrivia: which POTUS did not meet QEII?
ReplyDeleteLBJ and all other U S Presidents before she became QEII?
9:06 I did. At least I'm old enough to remember when stamp collecting was a thing, even if my presidential history is a little shakey.
ReplyDeleteLbj didn’t want to meet her. It was a snub.
ReplyDeletePamela Moses was sentenced to six years in prison for illegally registering to vote last November. Much like the 1/6 defendants, her actions threatened the core of our democracy. Thankfully nonviolent crimes like these get the punishment they deserve! Yay for the carceral state...what other problem can we solve with excessive incarceration???????
ReplyDeleteSo I broke into the Palace with a sponge and a rusty spanner
ReplyDeleteShe said, "Eh, I know, and you cannot sing"
I said, "That's nothing, you should hear me play the piano"
We can go for a walk where it's quiet and dry
And talk about precious things
Good for LBJ. Who would want to meet the inbreed heir to slavetraders?
ReplyDeleteWhy would anyone want to meet a bunch of inbred Brits who are famous and have some power for no other reason than an accident of birth?
ReplyDelete@10:08 - you forgot rich, they are wildly rich.
ReplyDeleteIndeed, who would want to meet with such famous, powerful, and rich people? It's a mystery.
