IF

"If you can keep your head when all  about you
are losing theirs and blaming it on you..."

What happens IF  Covid-19 infects the local jails and correctional officers refuse to show up for work?

"If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you
but make allowance for their doubting too..."

What happens IF  a local Judge gets Covid-19 and people start refusing to come to court?

"If you can wait but not be tired by waiting
or being lied about don't deal in lies.
Or being hated, don't give way to hating
And yet don't look too good or talk too wise"

Three elderly white men with health problems are running for president. What happens IF  one or more of them gets sick?

If you can dream- but not make dreams your master
if you can think and not make thoughts your aim
If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster
And treat those two imposters just the same.
If you can bear to hear the truth you've spoken
Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools
Or watch the things you gave your life to, broken
And stoop and build em up with worn out tools."

What happens IF  the virus prevents Americans from going to the polls to vote?

"If you can make one heap of all your winnings
And risk it on one turn of pitch and toss
And lose and start again at your beginnings
and never breath a word of your loss"

What happens IF  the stock market loses another twenty percent of its value and people stop going to movies, restaurants and sporting events?

"If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew
To serve you long after they are gone
And so hold on when there is nothing in you
Except the will which says to them 'hold on' "

What happens IF a member of your family gets sick?

"If you can walk with crowds and keep your virtue
Or walk with Kings and not lose the common touch
If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you
If all men count on you, but none too much "

What happens IF because of the economic slowdown your business begins to lose money. How can you keep the doors open until things get back to normal?

If you can fill the unforgiving minute
with sixty seconds worth of distance run
Yours is the Earth and Everything that's in it
And -which is more-you'll be a man my son."

If- By Rudyard Kipling.
If By Rumpole.

  1. Just grab the handrail on the REG escalator, pass some papers to the clerk, retrieve the pen from the inmate who has signed the document, head outside and grab a Gerstein dog from one of the food venders!

  5. Kfr has the plan. Ask for high bonds or Pretrial detention on everyone. Ask for 30 day resets on everything. Have jails change the rules to visit people to only between the hours of 10 pm - 10:15pm but if can’t get up to the cell in time see ya tomorrow.

  7. This is a beautiful post. Congratulations on bringing the epic poem to life in our day. This poem was given to me by my high school basketball coach and has been a guide to me forever. Thank you for bringing it to bear on the current crisis.

  8. Why is everybody so concerned? The president said the Coronavirus is a hoax. Patriotic Americans should ignore these absurd quarantine requests.

  9. Remember Judge Henry Ferro? He was the crazy judge who took the gun in evidence and pointed it at the defendant and said how would like it if someone did that to you or your mother.

Henry moved away to Ocala and we are all better off.

Now, he was reprimanded by the Bar for filing frivolous pleadings. What comes around, goes around....

  10. Argued to the judge this morning that keeping my client in detention pending PVH amounted to cruel and unusual punishment, given the certitude he will be infected.

State objected though, said that they had consulted with the victim and it was the victim's wishes that he become infected. Judge seemed very impressed by this. Anyway, the ASA had not had a chance to consult with her DC, who is out with coronavirus, so the matter was reset for PVH on August 17, 2023.

  11. Well, not a problem. Sam Slom retired. He was the judge who issued warrants for all who failed to appear the day after a hurricane warning was lifted EVEN THOUGH the mayor told people to leave town.

So, who this time will issue warrants if defendants FTA with a health crisis brewing?
