ALAN ROSS HAS PASSED AWAY

We lost a legal legend on Friday. Famed Miami Criminal Defense Attorney Alan Ross died on Friday after a courageous battle against pancreatic cancer.

However good you thought Alan Ross was...he was better. No one out worked him. No one out thought him. And certainly no one had the presence Alan did when he walked into court.

Alan was the type of lawyer that brought comfort to his clients just by being on their side. He was so good; so respected; and so feared as an opponent that clients intuitively felt that he was their champion. And he was.

But Alan Ross was so much more than just the very best at his profession.

He was a friend to many; a mentor to those lucky enough to work with him; a devoted family man. An all around great man.

We will leave it to his friends and colleagues to fill in the many blanks our small tribute did not cover.

  1. Many years ago Rumpole posted a picture on this blog. He suggested that the picture was a clue to his identity. I felt like I recognized the view. Alan Ross's office was in the same building (or at least, that was my guess).

  2. Although I did not know him well, I certainly know OF him. I was so saddened to hear of his passing.

In discussing this with a friend, she said, "You mean Eric Clapton died". She always referred to him as Eric Clapton. Thought they looked alike. Then she learned of his interest in music.

  3. I never had any cases with Alan, but I recall well his smile every time we encountered each other. He was an avid fisherman and always seemed to have the sun glass tan line. The thing that struck me about him was his apparent joy in talking fishing and hearing about my time on the sea. He was a good guy; I am sorry to learn of his passing.

  4. He was an all-around great guy. Good sense of humor, great lawyer. The only blip on his record was that Joyce Cohen case he lost in the late Eighties. The G S R expert, G o.p I R a o, did him in. He testified there was a tissue with gun residue in a garbage can in her room that she had thrown away after the murder. The guilty verdict was kind of surprising. Alan did a good job. RIP.
