I have been following the Grieco campaign(s) with a lot of interest. Mike seems like a nice enough guy, and super ambitious, which is not always a vice.
Im curious about his latest proposal, now that he is out of the mayoral race and running again for his current seat: appointing some kind of "special" Miami Beach prosecutor, to prosecute homeless ("nuisance") crimes in south beach.
1. Wtf is this? Do any other cities in all of Florida have their own special prosecutors, apart from the main SAO? How would that work?
2. How is he proposing this while, reportedly, currently under investigation himself with the SAO. What he's proposing, presumably, would involve funds going to the SAO and would lighten the caseload of the current SAO. How can he be using his elected office to propose benefits to the SAO while currently being under investigation? If Kathy announces there are no charges in either investigation (the illegal fundraising or the coercing a public aide into his mayoral campaign), wont that decision stink to high heaven?
I hope a real journalist asks Mike these questions.
8:14. Other cities do it. It is common in broward. I believe ft. Lauderdale and Hollywood have there own prosecutor who comes into misdemeanor courts to prosecute certain crimes or violations in their jurisdictions. I've recall seeing a marijunana case handled by a city prosecutor.
