JUDGE ROSA RODRIGUEZ DRAWS AN OPPONENT .....

THE CAPTAIN REPORTS:

BREAKING NEWS CONTINUES ... JUDGE ROSA RODRIGUEZ HAS OPPOSITION .....

In what's now becoming a regular occurrence over the past few days, another long time Incumbent Judge has drawn an opponent.

Early on it was the likes of County Court Judges Ed Newman and Fred Seraphin, and Circuit Court Judges Jason Bloch and Robert Luck.

In the past couple of days, add Incumbent Judges Wendell Graham, Nushin Sayfie, and now Rosa Rodriguez to that list.  WHO'S NEXT ?!

Today, attorney Jorge A. Lopez has filed to run against the three time incumbent Judge Rodriguez.

Judge Rosa Rodriguez was first elected to the Circuit Court bench in 1998. She was reelected in 2004 and 2010. She is running to retain her seat.  In 1998, Rodriguez defeated attorney Ann Mason-Parker by 54% to 46% to win her race.  She ran unopposed in '04 and '10.

Attorney Jorge A. Lopez has been a member of The Florida Bar for 29 years. He has an office in Coral Gables. According to his web site, this is what it says about him:

Jorge A. Lopez, Senior Partner

Jorge A. Lopez earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration from Georgetown University in 1983 and a Juris Doctor degree from the University of Miami School of Law in 1986. Mr. Lopez was admitted to the Florida Bar in October of 1986. Mr. Lopez has extensive experience handling complex commercial matters and litigation involving investor fraud and corporate disputes. Mr. Lopez also handles litigation of catastrophic injury claims, aviation disasters and consumer fraud cases. In addition, Mr. Lopez has represented clients against some of the largest financial institutions including Merrill Lynch, Morgan Stanley, UBS Paine Webber, Salomon-Smith Barney, CitiGroup, Credit Suisse First Boston and Prudential Securities. Mr. Lopez speaks Spanish and Portuguese

COINCIDENCE

As was pointed out by an alert reader of the BLOG, Attorney Rosy Aponte (who filed against Judge Sayfie) and Attorney Jorge A. Lopez, both have the exact same Campaign Treasurer.  That person is C.P.A. Carlos Trueba who has an office in Doral.

MONEY

We all know that you can't run a campaign without it.  And, like Judge Graham, who has raised no money and filed with one week to go before the qualifying deadline, and like Judge Sayfie, who has raised only $54,000, the least among all incumbent Circuit Court Judges, so does Judge Rosa Rodriguez fall into that same category.  Of the 14 Incumbent Circuit Court Judges running for reelection, only Judges Schlesinger, Bernstein, and Areces have raised less than the $89,000 that Judge Rosa Rodriguez has raised.  And when you add in the amounts lent to candidates' own campaigns, Rodriguez fall down to third to last with Areces and Sayfie bringing up the rear in total funds available for their campaigns.  Rodriguez has contributed a grand total of ZERO loaned to her own campaign. (See our BLOG post dated April 29, 2016).

  1. Aponte & Lopez both work for John Ruiz. He's the unscrupulous one behind these ridiculous candidates trying to take out good judges.

  2. Captain, you are using old numbers for Judge Sayfie. You can see for yourself that she has over $125,000 in her account: http://dos.elections.myflorida.com/candidates/CanDetail.asp?account=64976

She raised close to $50,000 within a few days of her opponent filing her papers. That is an impressive show of support.

  3. I won't print a comment that mentions a judge's spouse, even if s/he is also a public figure.

  4. I have never seen a judge who was more rude or disrespectful to jurors than Rosa Rodriguez.

  5. What a crock. Rosa is a great judge.

  6. No 6:09, that is a show of the strong ties her husband has to Republican fund raisers. That is not a show of support by the legal community.

  7. Admitted in 1986 means Lopez has been a Florida lawyer for 29 years, not 19.

  8. John Ruiz has "La Ley" (The Law) with magazine, tv show, etc.

  9. Jorge Lopez does not work for John Ruiz. In fact, Lopez is a successful, respected attorney. Why he has chosen to run for judge is beyond me. I can only speculate that his kids are grown, he is financially secure (that part is not speculation), and he wants to continue to work but not deal with the ancillary issues that arise when running his own practice. From what I know of him, he's a stand-up guy and would make a good judge. I just wish he had picked another seat to run in.

    1. Sir, you are dead wrong. Mr. Lopez is an in-house lawyer for John Ruiz's collection agency MSP Recovery. His Email: jlopez@msprecovery.com
He's one of many in house lawyers that work there like Justin Tolley, Gustavo Losa, Christine Lugo and the puppet master himself, Johnny Ruiz, whose email is: jruiz@msprecovery.com.

Mr. Lopez is Ruiz's puppet. His reputation will be as destroyed as Ruiz's by the time the August 30 election comes around.

  10. and now Sarduy has opposition. Guess that whole strategy didn't work Jorge... More to come...

  11. Sarduy just drew opposition: Elena Ortega-Tauler! I wonder who's next? Bailey, Young, Bernstein...

  12. Rosa needs a dose of humble pie. I have found her on the civil bench to be very obnoxious towards clients. And when a lawyer notices a case for trial she puts it on the trial calendar one year away. Only Cardonne-Ely is slower. Her opponent seems to be well qualified. Hopefully this time, Rosa will not get a secret loan from a boyfriend.

  13. Who is running against David Young?

    1. Even Sayfie and Kelly would be easier to beat. Not gonna happen. Wait till 2018.

  14. The award that Alex Michaels should receive should be named after the late Norman Haft. Except "Stormin Norman had alot more class and dressed much better and was more elegant than Michaels. who can barely speak English. Norman had class, Michaels lacks that.

  15. Carroll Kelly it is time to retire. DV needs to be more pro community. You are an elitist without a clue.

It was truly terrible to work with you in DV. You mainly do not understand the people of Miami-Dade County. You treat staff terribly.

Carroll Kelly ou pa yon moun bèl. Ou ta dwe wont. Pou pran retrèt ka gen bon konprann pou konsève pou sitiyasyon ansyen jij ou yo.

  16. I ain't no math wiz, Cap'n, but if he was admitted to the Florida bar in October of 1986, then he be has been a lawyer for 29 years. I used my calculator to figure that out.

  17. Young can quit holding his breath.HIs opponent will file Friday.

  18. ortega-tauler files and qualifies against sayfie before the friday deadline.

  19. Elena Ortega Tauler qualified and jumped to group 74 against incumbent George Sarduy

  20. We're staring down the barrel of the best cinco de shumie ever!!!

  21. Rosy Aponte is the best! Running against Sayfie in Circuit Court and Carol Kelly in County Court. Who needs to withdraw from one race before joining another? Not Judge Aponte!

    ReplyDelete
  22. Rosa Rodriguez is tough but fair. Lopez is only running against her because he's John Ruiz's puppet and John has an axe to grind with Rosa after she denied his ridiculous class action against Gibraltar Bank who was foreclosing on his house, due his lack of payment. There's no room for this type of behavior in our community. Lopez and Ruiz should be ashamed of themselves.

  23. Some years ago when there was optimism and hope I named my new African Gray Parrot Sarduy after many comments on this blog. I taught him to cry out his own name and many other legal terms. Now he is just a middle aged Parrot who is bitter and tired and constantly shouts legal maxims at me for no reason. Boy did I make a mistake.

  24. Mr. Lopez works for Ruiz and Commissoner Frank Quesada at MSP recovery. Just check out their "team" at https://msprecovery.com/our-team/name/jorge-lopez/

  25. 3:56 - your comment is the funniest i ever read on this blog, bless you.

  26. Captain - you could note further that Carlos Trueba was an expert witness for lil' Bernardo Roman III (who for the time being still holds a law license) in his trumped up, phony allegations against Lewis Tein for which he's already been sanctioned and fined millions and his fraud on the courts exposed.

    Nuff said.

  27. Nushin gets smooth sailing into reelection!!! John Ruiz's puppet, Rosie Aponte is now challenging Carol Kelley! This is just too much fun!

  28. No one will file against David Young--just watch

    1. We fight a Lion like David when incumbents are nice turtles easy to catch? The Young machine is ready to flex and destroy. Frankly it's a no go if you want a chance to win.

  29. Jorge Lopez is actually a great guy. Rosa Rodriguez is a great judge. Rosy Aponte should not be allowed near the robes at Target, let alone any court room in this country.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Jorge Lopez can't even pay his own mortgage so how can anyone expect him to properly ajudicate a foreclosure. He is just another marionette tethered to John Ruiz. Perhaps, Ruiz is seeking to places judges on the bench to assuage his pending indictment

    ReplyDelete
  31. Mr. Lopez has little experience. He has appeared in less cases in his entire undistinguished legal career than Judge RODRIGUEZ handles on her weekly motion calendars. John Ruiz should concentrate on the practice of law, instead of attempting to meddle with the judiciary by supporting inexperienced and unqualified candidates.
