It's been many of years and thousands of posts (this is number 3006 we believe)
since we burst on to the scene at the end of the year in November, 2005.
"Won't last until the end of the Heat season" said once local blogger confidently.
"Flash in the pan" said others.
We've been sued, threatened, subpoenaed, cajoled, enticed (women used to send us provocative pictures to meet them in a bar- but we've read too many cold war spy novels to fall for a honey-trap) ignored, and finally accepted.
So where do we go from here?
A few things are sacrosanct. Bashing Broweird. Insulting the intelligence and work ethic of those who wear black robes at work, not including those at Hogwarts.
But some things are up in the air.
2016 is a presidential election year.
Should we comment on that?
Should we comment on Miami social issues like books and restaurants and the arts and theater (we are an expert in most of those areas)?
Should we write more humor?
More or less contributors?
How about an ASA? Or would s/he get fired? Shouldn't Ms. Rundle authorize someone from her office to contribute and give us their perspective? They would have carte blanche and their postings would be unedited.
That would be nice.
Should we go back to analyzing 3rd DCA decisions released on Wednesdays?
Should we adhere to the maxim that if it's not broke, don't fix it?
Post your thoughts. We can start with everyone's favourite commentator "zzzzzzzzzzz" and get that one out of the way and go from there.
Not sure how much we are going to be around with internet access spotty on Tristan da Cunha, until January 3, but keep checking in. We have interns who will be clearing the comments.

Please No. We all know that the only issue is which of the Democrats is sufficiently left to please you and we know that all of the Republican are crass and venal. Thus, the blog perspective on these topics is akin to what one would expect in Junior High. Why not leave it alone. We all know and respect what your views are but we really have heard enough of it.

ReplyDeleteThis year we lost two old former Justice Building veterans. Stanley Newmark an original PD before Phil Hubbard turned the office into the best criminal defense firm in the country after he came in during the early 70s. And Art Tifford, of the Bird-Tifford affidavit used today for a basis for separate trials. Artie was a defendant with his father-in -law in the Cedars of Lebanon Hospital fraud. Although he got convicted it was reversed in federal court and he was cleared. He went on to have a great career. Staney focused on family law and never looked over 40. Both will be missed by veterans of the Building.

actually, 3 dca out-did itself this wednesday, in the christmas holiday spirit, by refusing to review summary denials to residency petitions by three abandoned traumatized children who had traveled at great personal danger to our shores to escape poignant deprivation and coercive gang culture, each over righteous dissent by Salter, J. Kinda like their blanket pcas and citation opinions in criminal appeals, the 3d has clanged shut the courtroom door to the most vulnerable among us. So yeah, I think this blog should be on the frontlines against the most conservative and lazy appellate district in the state. If we can't save our clients at trial (yeah, I know, you're all winners win so what does it matter), they are doomed on appeal.

Here are my thoughts:
ReplyDelete1. While the blog is superior to its Broward counterpart, they do investigations on that site like counting empty courtrooms in the afternoon or following up on rumors and other goings on. Perhaps you can take on a more investigative role?
2. Call a Shumie on the inane Ren references.
3. Provide your thoughts on judges, prosecutors and defense attorneys. Which retired or deceased judges do you wish were still on the bench?
4. Opine on where our profession is headed. Are we trending toward "socialized criminal defense" if the United States Supreme Court permits the freezing of one's assets if there may be a need for restitution?
5. How is the Internet going to change our practices? How is Internet advertising and SEO work going to change how clients find us? Is "word of mouth " dying?
