Judge Luck earned his stripes On Thursday when a mentally ill defendant attacked him and gave him a scratch and a lump on the back of the head.

After the attack, Luck went to the sidelines where the trainer gave him some smelling salts, cleaned him up and then the Judge re-took the bench. Luck is tough. But tough in a good way. We're glad the judge is OK. He's been on the bench a while now, and in fact he has a campaign website up and running here for his retention which we heartily endorse. But you're never really an REGB judge until you've ducked a few punches or some contraband thrown at you while you're on the bench. Well done judge. Well done indeed- and we're glad you're ok.

There's only one SAUL, that's me The Big Saulami and I've been at it for a long time. The dude on TV may be a character but he'll never be able to tell the sick, twisted and interesting stories that I have gathered.
ReplyDeleteThis is terrible that this occurred to Judge Luck. He's an outstanding, freshman judge with a whole lot of potential. Despite his relatively young age and lack of experience in State court, he has been humble yet effectively authoritative. He's been a great addition to the bench.
I totally disagree that he needs to go through some type of State Court initiation stage. There should be steps to prevent this type of behavior. Obviously, the shabby 3rd floor court rooms permit the inmates from getting way too close to the bench.
Nobody should be physically assaulted simply for doing their job.
While he may have just received some superficial markings, I'm sure it was a harrowing experience.
Rump, how about a post on harmonic convergence and the application to cross?

ReplyDeleteI heard that the judge's view was that the security people did a great job, and that he basically felt sorry for the guy but was not happy about being attacked.
ReplyDeleteThe defendant who was just about to be taken into custody, rushed up the left side where there are steps, tackled the judge right out of his chair and rolled down the right side stairs.
They need to secure the lefty side of that bench so there is no access and post a security guard on the right side. If they can't, they should reassign Judge Glick to that courtroom

ReplyDeleteI am appalled that you let the post from Monday @ 10:30 AM be published. it's one thing to disagree with a Judge or believe they may be defense or state oriented or even not competent. It is quite another matter to wish harm on a judge and then publish the comment as if it is OK.
It is not OK and the person who wrote it should be admonished by you and an apology to Judge Glick is in order.

Delete6:27 P.M. Spare us. No one wants to hurt Judge Glick. It is called humor. But, she is a biased, state-oriented tool who has no business sitting on the bench in a criminal courthouse. She is a disgrace, and everyone knows it. If the State Attorney wants to save money, she could just leave that courtroom without any ASAs. Judge Glick more than compensates.
ReplyDeleteCompletely apart from what she does in her division, when she sits in bond court, she is vindictive, punitive, and unfair -heaping on heavy bonds to folks who cannot pay it fro relatively silly crimes. She is a horror.
Sounds like someone can't handle losing in Court. They will mature in good time.

Worse though, your comment is not only offensive and inappropriate, but (assuming you're a lawyer) it's a violation of the Rules of Professional Conduct and you shouldn't be practicing law. If you felt like impugning Judge Glick's integrity, you should have kept it to yourself. However, since you foolishly chose not to, you ought to face disciplinary sanctions. Perhaps that would be the best thing anyhow, since it appears you don't have the professionalism that it takes to be entrusted with defending anyone.

You are mean, hard-hearted and nothing more than a prosecutor in a dress. How many people enjoy being assigned to bond court so that they can impose hideously large bonds with unreasonable conditions?

ReplyDeletei do my best in every courtroom. If I disagree with s ruling, I say so. If I need to appeal, I do. And if I think a particular judge isn't doing his or her job right, I support the opponent. What I don't do is publicly and anonymously impugn the integrity of any judge.
