INVESTITURE: Whoops! We missed blogging about the investiture of State Attorney Katherine Fernandez Rundle who is serving a record fifth term. KFR's investiture was Friday February 15, 2013. We're certain our invitation was lost in the mail. Still, we wish her the best.
Here is the SAO's email about the event:
Katherine Fernandez Rundle was sworn in for a record fifth term as Miami-Dade County's State Attorney on Friday, February 15, 2013. Hundreds of friends, supporters, office staff, elected officials, and other dignitaries attended the Investiture ceremony.
Florida Supreme Court Justice Barbara J. Pariente administered the oath to State Attorney Fernandez Rundle and newly elected Chief Judge of the Eleventh Judicial Circuit Bertila Soto swore in her 300 prosecutors. The investiture ceremony took place at Miami Dade College's Wolfson Auditorium.
Dignitaries who took center stage alongside the State Attorney includedUnited States Attorney for the Southern District of Florida Wilfredo Ferrer, Miami Dade College President Eduardo J. Padrón, Chief Judge Bertila Soto, former United States Congressman Lincoln Diaz-Balart, Harvard Law Professor and noted author Alan M. Dershowitz, Jorge Plasencia, Chairman of the Board of the National Council of La Raza, City of Miami Gardens Police Chief and current President of the Chiefs of Police Matthew Boyd, and Reverend Carl Johnson, Pastor of the 93rd Street Baptist Church.
Women of Tomorrow Founder and television personality Jennifer Valoppi moderated the event and State Attorney Fernandez Rundle's fiancé, well-known attorney David Efron, and her son Justin, accompanied her onstage during the event.
"I feel exceptionally proud and honored to be embarking on a new term as Dade's chief prosecutor," commented State Attorney Katherine Fernandez Rundle. "The faith that the voters have overwhelmingly shown in me is surpassed only by my desire to make my community a safer place to live and raise our families. I am so happy that my family, friends, and law enforcement partners joined me for this very special occasion."
Immediately after the ceremony, the attendees joined State Attorney Fernandez Rundle at a reception in the college courtyard.
Alan Detshowitz? I wonder if he would be sitting there if his event were held in August.

ReplyDeleteCongrats to Ms. Fernandez Rundle
Cap Out .....
No comments on the amazing spectacle playing out before Firtel? Phil stops a capital murder prosecution in it's tracks and gets a Richardson hearing, a Giglio hearing AND a new motion to suppress? Unheard of.
ReplyDeleteAnd if you followed the Miami Herald tweets, it did no justice to his cross when the detective was testifying he helped find the missing tapes and Phil snapped "don't pat yourself on the back too much. It took 25 years." I wanted to stand up and cheer. A lying cop has been caught and you have a defense attorney who is pushing this to the wall. It was a great thing to watch.
Word from some ASAs in my office who poked their head in was that it was an amazing hearing.
ReplyDeleteI'm watching this show called Yukon Men about people in Northern Alaska who live a rural life and depend upon hunting and fishing for all their food. On the show winter is coming, everyone is freaking about having no food for the winter, and all the men are like 400 pounds. Something isn't right.
ReplyDeleteMeanwhile I saw Jim Defede on a Sunday morning local interview show and he is frighteningly obese. I mean health scary. I feel bad for him. He should check into bariatric surgery and save his life. He is a great reporter but what is happening to him is scary.
11:14 - Stand up and cheer for Phil? Why?
ReplyDeleteHe's really only litigating a discovery violation, something that all first year PD's and ASA's know how to do. Sure, the stakes are higher, but the legal issues are the same. Hope you aren't breaking your own arm patting HIM on the back.
Anyone who has been an attorney for more than 5 minutes knows cops are liars. You don't have to be a genius to point that out in court.
And finally, 11:14, grow up. Capital litigation ain't a sport.
But you do have to be a genius to get some reaction from an elected trial judge who like his colleagues listens to those sociopathic misfits lie every day and allows them to do it consistently and without remorse or concern for the damage they do to the system or the defendant that someone is trying to hustle off to prison because, after all, “He probably did it,. Or if not that something equally bad.”
ReplyDeleteCongrats to KFR on another well deserved term.

Alan D is nothing but a lot of hot air. I would take Paul Morris over him any day.
ReplyDeleteRump- new young lawyer to Miami. Surveyed the scene and decided to pick up this awesome hot Colombian Milf. She's 49-50 and listening to her stories of the 80's she was definitely in the middle of the drug-party scene. She hasn't told me, but I get the feeling her husband is in fed custody doing serious time. Our communication is a bit difficult since my Spanish isn't great and her English leads a lot to be desired and well, we don't talk as much as we do other things if you get my drift.
ReplyDeleteAll of this is leading up to this- on Sunday nights where I come from (NYC) we eat chinese food or sometimes fried chicken. I cannot find any place for fried chicken except KFC. I complained to her and she started on and on about this guy somewhere on the edge of the Everglades that has the best pollo frito. Any tips?
She;s talking about Jimmy's
ReplyDeleteJimmys- Jimmy was a guy with a trash drum way out on Tamiamai. Best fried chicken, gator, grouper and shrimp I've ever eaten.
ReplyDeleteAG:
ReplyDeleteYou're a low class slut for picking on DeFede who has more talent and more understanding of the law than you'll ever even imagine to hope to have.
I miss Mitt. Romney in 2016: tanned. Rested. Ready to lead.
ReplyDeleteFind out if Mahogany Grill is still open. Owned by former baseball player. Best fried chicken!
ReplyDeleteMy experiences with Defede?
ReplyDeleteA bit reckless, surprisingly shallow reporter who bulls ahead with a story without taking the time to learn what it's really about. It's all about advancing himself.
