Here is the Government's web site for World Aids Day. You can follow the links and find your own suitable charity and do your part.
We can't let this go. It's hard to imagine most of our readers passed the Bar. If you read the comments section from the last post, you will see speculation on who the young woman was referenced in our post. Most thought it was a prosecutor. Then we wrote that there was nothing in the post to confirm she was a prosecutor. Then someone wondered if she wasn't a prosecutor what could she be?
Co-counsel?
Counsel for the co-defendant?
Jury consultant?
Expert witness?
Come on people. Think just a little tiny bit outside the box.
It's all over the FACDL Listserv that great criminal defense attorney Roy Kahn tore it up in trial in civil court and got a 3.25 million dollar verdict.
Roy, can you spare a dime?
FACDL SPY
Our FACDL spy says the following things are in the works:
1) The clerk's office will now accept checks and debit cards for payments. For a brief moment the clerk's office decided to only accept coin as payment and then only quarters and nickels minted 2009 or beyond and then only from the Denver mint.
2) Security pass: Regular working private defense attorney Joes and Janes will be able to join their brethren from the SAO, PDs, and Regional Counsel (RC?) and bypass the security and walk in the side door.
Register us as completely 100% against this idea. Everyone, and we mean everyone including Judges and Bailiffs should have to go through screening. Otherwise the building turns into a sieve.
The security of an area is directly related to the square of the number of people who can bypass screenings.* With what will now be 100s of people not being screened as they enter, the chances of their being an "incident" of some sort is now much more likely than not.
See You In Court.
*That's not our formula but one employed by respected security agencies.
heard a little birdie today talk about a current ASA (with under 10 years of experience) planning on running against Carlos Martinez. I cannot wait!
ReplyDeleteKahn got a default judgment. no opposition. He will never see a dime out of this case. Many lawyers get big verdict with no oppostion and never see a cent. this is no exception,
ReplyDeleteMy reading of the post would indicate that the only person capable of identifying Rump is the lawyer he spoke with. It was a fairly specific conversation.
ReplyDeleteRegardless, it is my opinion that the true identity of Rumpole should never be disclosed by anyone other than Rump himself. The anonymity allows a certain freedom, and my guess is a confirmed correct "outing" of him will be the end of this blog.
That would be a shame.
Hey Roy -- it gets a little tougher when the attorneys for the other side show up. Your win is sort of like winning an arraignment. Go get em!
ReplyDeleteSorry to rain on World Aids Day, but hey...I'm me.
ReplyDeleteFor those of you who rightfully believe that the music you listen to is important only to the extent it solidifies your elite status, then I recommend as a holiday gift the digital remix of the Traveling Wilburys. It's elite, snobby, and you can snicker at those who don't know the group. So the gift lifts you a bit and demeans the recipient.
Remember, its all about looking good, not being good.
Could have predicted the black lash against Roy would start right here. Can't anyone be happy for the guy, just a little?
ReplyDeletecarlos will crush a current asa unless he has an american sr name and he is a major dem.. even then it's a blow out
ReplyDeleteGetting a default in civil is like getting letter from a prince of Congo Republic who has 47,000,000USD that he needs to transfer.
ReplyDeleteBoy are you wrong about the screening of lawyers.
ReplyDeleteThe courthouse is not an airport. The reason for the screening to keep bad guys from trying to spring their buddy from the jail. It is not to make the world a safer place.
It is hard to imagine a lawyer bringing a gun to court to spring his or her client.
There is no reason to screen everyone.
Hell, even at airports, we trust local police and pilots with guns so, you have to trust someone. Why not trust the fucking lawyers who are there day after day?
Maybe Roy can find some asset of the defendant to levy upon and collect his judgment.
ReplyDeleteYes, but, would you trust Alex Michaels with a courthouse ID?
ReplyDeleteI can hear him now... this is bullseet.
I am a female, daughter of Hispanic parents and a local graduate with over 15 years of practice. What seats would you all recommend I run in for the 2012 election? Please tell me about county and circuit seats.
ReplyDeleteThank you!
I've spent some time now reviewing the comments. RFB and Fake Blecher need to go. Tools and really boring blah subject matter. Fake Matters and Adelstein are OK, they don't say much unless they have to. Word of Day Guyz serve a purpose. But for the most part the comments are lame. The Mr. Chief Justice Milton Hirsch was a real barn burner early last year, but like any craze that has petered out a bit.
ReplyDeleteI would say there is a lot I can do to jazz up your comments section. More angry gurl. less shumie crap. That's a freebee tip for you.
Class M Planets Rule!
id like to know who BTDT is. consistently the only poster who has intelligent commentary
ReplyDeletekeep up your anonymity and keep the fair and balanced posts.
real lawyers appreciate your insight (as opposed to all the fake XXX, esq and shumie time tired posts)
Carlos Martinez is a Democrat and lives the Rainbow Coalition. He is very beatable this year. I suggest whomever this ASA is he get on his game and contact Gabe Martin, Lonnie Anderson, Big Country, Juan D'Arce, Krystal and Lynn. That should be a great start to a new PD in Miami!
ReplyDeleteA real look at the political landscape of Miami shows that Carlos Martinez is almost unbeatable. A exile who came on the Freedom Flights ( do you even know what they were- Older Cuban VOTERS certainly DO), A Child of Cuban Miami, educated here in Dade at MDCC and UM.
ReplyDeletePerhaps a Cuban Republican Tea-party candidate MIGHT pose a challenge. But that would be it. No Anglo , Not even a Republican , will beat Carlos. That is just political fact here in Dade.

ReplyDeletehow could a republican run against carlos in the democratic primary? stick to what you know son.
BTDT knows what is good for you. and if you know whats good for you, you won't question his razor sharp analysis and his open mindedness. I picture him as a gentleman who spends his spare time at the park, feeding the birds and giving free legal advice to the shoe shine boy.

ReplyDeleteI assumed that we were discussing the General election. But, In Florida ,if the winner of a primary becomes elected because there is No opponent of the opposite party, to run against in the General, All voters get to vote cause the primary is the election.
DS
8:22, DS is not talking about the Democratic primary.
ReplyDeleteTo December 2, 2011, at 6:54. You have the perfect pedigree and would be doing a public service to take on Judge Gisela Cardonne Ely. You would also find alot of supporters.
