WOOPS

DOM BREAKS THE NEWS: BOB SCOLA CONFIRMED AS A DISTRICT COURT JUDGE FOR THE SOUTHERN DISTRICT OF FLORIDA TODAY. Congratulations to Federal Judge Scola. Now get to work.

UPDATE: CAPTURED! The inmate who was mistakenly let out was captured when he had the crazy idea of going to a UM Psych Ward. Herald article here.

Corrections accidentally released a dangerous inmate on Tuesday. The irony is that while they open the doors for a guy who shouldn't get out, it often takes days and days to get someone released who should be released.

The Defendant was convicted of attempted murder of his former girlfriend on Monday. He stabbed her with a large knife. On Tuesday, before he was sentenced, corrections let him out. Judge Trawick is the sentencing judge.

The Herald article on the mishap is here.

BREAKING NEWS: THIS IS BIG!

Steady yourself.

It's still raining.

UPDATE: Rain will end. Temperatures to drop into the mid-50's Fall is here!

See You In Court.

  1. why does richard joyce still list as being employed at R3C on the florida bar website? Joe George is working for himself. Better not drink or he will have to fire himself.

In August, a federal investigation — echoing longstanding complaints — reported that Miami-Dade Corrections was plagued by unsanitary conditions, abusive officers and a lack of proper medical care for inmates

  4. Corrections needs to be overhauled and this should be the opportune time to do it. their arrogance is a problem in the entire judicial system.

  5. Regarding the article yesterday re: Polk county administrator at RC arrested.

Interesting she is charged with multiple felonies, yet Miami Beach Police Officers who similarly falsify records and lie and steal from the city and merely demoted.

I always say, Dade County is the best place to be a criminal.

  8. Joe Penobscott George for PresidentWednesday, October 19, 2011 3:15:00 PM

Scola's a federal judge now eh? hmmmm....a spot open on the circuit bench? I could slip right in there and nab that spot. Who says you can't run for president as a Judge. Willie Howard Taft did it. Or was that the other way? Was he president first and then a judge? I always forget. My research staff should make sure I know that. "Memo- from Joe George to self: fire all research staff in the morning. They are failing miserably."
Anyways, where was I? Oh yeah. Grab that judge spot. Run for president. Win or perhaps shake it up enough and get a spot on the supreme court. Then I could fire some people. All those federal judges under me. I could fire Scola. Teach him a lesson. Fire em all I say.

  9. The inmate who was released, didn't he turn himself in to Ward D at Jackson?

He had been eating bologna sandwiches so much his insides imploded when he ate real food!

A joke courtesy of my favorite corrections officer.

  10. The Q posted his devastating critique of the Dewey Decimal system on line and linked it through his twitter and facebook accounts. He blames some of the intractable unemployment on the DDS.

    Powerful stuff.

  13. Finally, a blog topic we can sink our teeth into! The Dewey Decimal System is a great American innovation. the DDS, like baseball, apple pie, NASA, hot dogs, monday night football and dancing with the stars is what makes us great. Its a true example of American Exceptionalism.

The Q throws down the gauntlet on the DDS? I pick it up and slap him with it and say "sir, you are way out of line."

  14. Can someone please explain how William Wells, a convicted felon, can run for Judge? I'm reading the Third District's opinion from his appeal (807 So. 2d 132) and it would be horrible if he became a part of the bench. How can a convicted felon, whose crime involves such dishonesty, be allowed to represent our bench?

  15. I think the Dewey Decimal System is an international system and I resent your patronizing and jingoistic attempt to corrupt it.

  16. 5:34 -- Is that the same William Wells who has a conviction for DUI (and a history of failures to appear and bench warrants and license suspensions) in citation number 21404WD?

  17. The inmate who was released due to Corrections mistake is being charged with escape?

How can you escape when you are being released?

  18. The SAO has the audacity to charge the guy Corrections let go with Escape. On the TV News you can see and hear the Bond Hearing with the ASA arguing he escaped cause He didnt Tell Corrections not to release him.

  20. The Captain Reports:

from the DBR - Florida Legislature considering a bill that would cut a prisoner's sentence in half.

"A state House proposal to ramp up drug rehabilitation for a select group of nonviolent offenders raised concerns on Tuesday with sheriffs, who squared off against business groups over how to cuts costs while maintaining public safety.

The House Criminal Justice Subcommittee took testimony on a bill that would allow the Department of Corrections to recommend that nonviolent drug offenders be allowed to cut their sentences by up to half by successfully completing a community-based drug treatment program.

The panel approved the measure, sponsored by Rep. Ari Porth, but not before lengthy debate over whether such programs are successful in keeping drug-dependent inmates from rekindling their addictions and returning to crime.

Porth's bill would allow qualified non-violent inmates to be resentenced after serving half of their prison terms to community drug treatment. Applicants would be screened by DOC officials and must also be cleared by state prosecutors and the judge who would alter the original sentence."

    Cap Out .....
