ELDERLY JUDGES

BREAKING: DOWN GOES YOSS, DOWN GOES YOSS.
SOFLA has all the details on the civil blog.

Sort of out of it today (Monday). Sorry for the late post and no, we have not jumped the shark. Jeeze. One late post and the world starts crumbling. Literally.

Please donate to the Red Cross to help Japan here.

LEGAL LEGEND?
Besides the obvious (Rumpole) do you know of anyone else deserving of recognition as a Miami LEGAL LEGEND?

Past recipients have included Judges Harvey Shenberg and Roy T. Gelber woops....never mind- that's another category entirely.

Lets try again. Past recipients have included Janet Reno, Sy Gaer, Albert Krieger, and Judges Mario Goderich and Matte Bell Davis.

The Legal Legend award is sponsored by the 11 Judicial Circuit Historical Society (Motto: "Uncovering bones in judicial closets for a few years now.")

  1. Just what we need, Alan Schwartz here at MJB. I guess he ran out of people to piss off at the DCA.

Hey Alan, remember when you used to turn your chair around if you didn't like the argument you were hearing?

  2. Judge Deel is a super nice man & was a great judge but the man has gone deaf and doesn't turn up or put on a hearing aid. However, Martin Shapiro continues to be sooooooo slooowwww and acts like his is a robot on the bench!

  3. He still does that. He should not be on the bench!

  4. For us old folks, linking to the Frazier/Foreman fight was nostalgic. Watching the fight again, it is remarkable that Frazier's corner let it go on for so long. He could have been killed.

  5. Frazier had the heart of a true champion. He is underrated as a heavyweight champion. Remember that he beat Ali in Ali/Frazier I in Madison Square in the first meeting ever between two undefeated champions (because Ali had been stripped of the title because he refused to be inducted into the Army). Frazier cut off the ring continually and chased Ali all night, never giving up the pressure and caught him with a beautiful left hook (14th round?) and sent Ali down. Give Ali props because he could take a punch and he got up, but Frazier rightfully won the decision.

Ali needed a Frazier so he could be Ali. But in his own right Frazier was a top 5 and maybe a top 3 heavyweight champ. (Ali, Joe Louis, Frazier, Marciano, Foreman....? )

  6. Rumpole. Kudos to your blog for beating the Miami Herald by two weeks on reporting the story about the farm photography bill which makes it a first degree felony to photograph onto farm property.

  7. comparing athletes from different eras is always a problem. neither marciano, frazier, or floyd patterson were big enough to stand in with many modern day monster sized heavyweights of lesser skill.

  8. Hasn't Schwartz embarassed enough people with his despicable demeanor and over the top opinions?

Frustrating how the Bar/judges holds lawyers to a much higher standard than they hold themselves.

  9. Rump, you got it about right and in that order. Ali could never figure Frazier out. Even though he beat him 2/3, Frazier won the most important one in 1971. Even though Ali beat him in Manila, it was hell. As Ali said, he felt as close to death as a human being could without actually dying. He admitted that he never would have lasted the 15th round. Ali never recovered from the beating he took. I still think his current near vegetative state is due in large part to the pounding Frazier gave to him.

  10. My question is "what were they thinking?" They should have planned for Hank's possible disbarment long ago. All they had to do before Hank got disbarred is to name a few latin bigwigs partner and they would have survided.
