ReplyDeletei have to say that i watched Dateline tonight and i was blown away. i have been in this justice system for longer than i ever thought, but this is such a sad story. on one hand, it seems like the defendant planned this, but then again defense counsel did raise much doubt with regard to a lack of tangible evidence - no documents, no tape recordings and really only the testimony of a depraved killer - with the desire to avoid the death penalty. as usual, Judge Blake handled the case like a real judge - as opposed to a Seidlin or Ito, etc. VERY SAD ... as are all of the cases in the Justice Building.
ReplyDeleteVenzer is good if you are her age or older. She treats younger lawyers with contempt. Her judicial demeanor is lacking - she constantly makes faces at counsel seeming to say "are you serious?"

2:57.......actually, Venzer is fine as long as you're professional. Some of us "old-timers" consider it unprofessional and insulting (not to mention a waste of everyone else's time) when lawyers make asinine arguments because they can't think of anything else to say.

ReplyDeleteOkay, so a nice 2-0 week last week with two underdogs made for a nice Monday morning. 4-1 last two weeks after a slow start. We are now over 50% and in the black again. Paulie going back to three games this week.

ReplyDeleteAs I've said many, many times, long before anyone asked whether I am Venzer, I am a MD SAO former prosecutor. Venzer never prosecuted.

BDTD - I guess its insulting and unprofessional to tell a Judge that my client is innocent and wants a trial. Speaking of old versus young - its your old school crew (with Mastos leading the charge) that constantly hold up the line of us privates with bs arguments.
