Willy Ferrer was sworn in as the US Attorney for The Southern District of Florida on Friday (yawn) and after all the speeches and blah blah blah everyone went home on Friday no worse for the wear. Eric Holder the US Attorney was present, and that was nice to see, especially since he picked perhaps the only place in the country hotter with more humidity than DC.
Good Monday morning. It's another hot Monday in Miami where male attorneys still have to wear coats and ties to court. Under any other circumstances if you saw a man walking down the street wearing a coat and and a tie where it was 98 degrees and 95% humidity you might be tempted to question his sanity. Except if he was a lawyer on his way to court.
What can Brown do for you? Not much yet.
The Republicans (Motto: "science shmiance" ) tell us that there's no such thing as global warming.
The NY Times reports that NASA says that the January-through-June period this year was the hottest globally since measurements began in 1880. ...
Glacier National Park now has only about 25 glaciers, compared with around 150 a century ago. In the Himalayas, the shrinkage seems to be accelerating, with Chinese scientific measurements suggesting that some glaciers are now losing up to 26 feet in height per year.
HOW NOT TO GET OUT OF A TRAFFIC TICKET...
Especially if you've just been offered a job as a prosecutor.
1) Don't curse at the officer; 2) Don't play the race card; 3) Don't dare the officer to arrest you for having illegally tinted windows and mention that you were just hired at the prosecutor's office.
Having done all of the above, Ms. Lisa Jones-Hall still got her ticket....and lost her job she hadn't started yet. Thanks to ATL for this gem.
ANOMALIES....
And just to pile on because it's Monday, we leave you with the disturbing possibility that not only is the cap on the well in the Gulf not working, but that BP may have screwed the pooch for the surrounding seabed- meaning that even when the well is capped the oil may still leak from the seabed for.....well forever.
But in a letter to BP chief managing director Bob Dudley, Admiral Allen said: "Given the current observations... including the detected seep a distance from the well and undetermined anomalies at the well head, monitoring of the seabed is of paramount importance...
See you in court, wearing a coat and tie.
IDIOT! THANX GUT she aint an ASA,

ReplyDeleteA shrinkage quote. Must have been a fan of Seinfeld.
ReplyDeleteCap Out .....
When I started at the SAO in 1983, Janet Reno hired a guy named Gar Hogan to join our "class" of 83.
ReplyDeleteGar wanted his security deposit back on an apartment so he used SAO letterhead to demand the money back or else criminal charges would be filed.
Gar was instantly fired.
Gar later ended up in Federal Prison.
There was some black guy in the Legal Dept at Miami SAO about 1988 who offered a prostitute coke for a blow job. She was standing on Biscayne Blvd. Oooppssssss.. she was a cop.
He was fired. I wonder what happened to him?
The list of ASA's who got in trouble is not as small as one would think.
It still boggles my mind that nobody is being held personally accountable for what was a risky proposition at best to drill so far into the Earth for oil. BP will write a big fat check and that will be the end of it.
ReplyDeleteIt is similar to the Shell oil debacle in the Niger River Delta: the biggest difference is that the BP spill happened in the US where the press is, for the most part, relentless in getting this information out to the public, whereas in the Niger River Delta, the press is cowed into submission by the thugs that live off of the bribes that the government and Shell pay them.
10:21- It wasn't "a black guy" (and why would his color matter anyway?) It was a line prosecutor who was a decent guy and did something stupid and got fired. I'm not going to print his name, and if someone else tries I strongly urge that it not be printed. About two years ago in one of my few and disastrous forays into civil law to help out a friend the former prosecutor appeared on behalf of the plaintiff. He seemed like he had put his troubles behind him and had gone on to have a successful career in civil court.
ReplyDeleteIt's not where you start in life, it's where you end up.
phil r is a real man. he started out that way and he will finish that way. i have always thought that he was one of the best criminal lawyers in the city. up there with roy black and jack denaro.

ReplyDelete1:30 PM- Thanks Mom.
ReplyDelete1:30 pm- Thanks, Jackie.
ReplyDeleteCheap shot:
ReplyDeleteJohn Hogan purchased suits he did not know were stolen and no one and I mean not a sole told him they were stolen.
When he found out later, he offered to pay the victims and they did not want the money.
Very cheap shot.
Also, the comment about the black guy was to ID him and not to insult him.
I didnt print the sao historian comment because I have no way of verifying the coke sales.

former asa al sepe, harvey shenberg, david goodhart, roy gelber and went to jail in courtbroom.
ReplyDeleteThat's the second time, the black guy legal ASA story has been told on this blog.
ReplyDeleteI criticized the reference to the "black guy" the last time this story was told, months back (maybe even more than a year ago?). I indicated that the gratuitous reference had no materiality to the story.
I pointed out back then that the whole "that's how you ID him thing" is utter crap. How do you ID "white guys"? People on this blog never learn. Ever.
Kudos to Phil R, for clarifying the wrongness of this issue.
Wrong! The reference to him as a black guy is because there were probably no other black guys in the legal dept. back then so that narrows it down. I too could care less and how do you know I too am not black?
ReplyDeleteI actually think I know his name but, wouldn't say that as I am not sure and hell, it is not worth saying. What he did was worth talking about.
OK some guy did it. (Wait a minute, will all males be insulted by that comment?) Do you feel better now?
I am glad to hear he is doing well, whoever he is.
rump... you can verify the SAO historian post via Abe. Its all true, I was there.
