UPDATE: The Lib Dems are meeting with the Tories to find common ground and attempt to form a government. PM Brown is packing up at 10 Downing and the moment the new coalition is presented to the Queen and she gives them permission to form a government Brown will be out. But for now, he's staying.
But it might not be enough.
Meanwhile there are reports of rioting in Sheffield where the polls closed and thousands of voters in queues were turned away. This could lead to legal challenges to the election and beloved England may well be headed for their own "2000 election crises" that left the US on the verge of a Constitutional crisis before the Supreme Court stepped in, shut down the count, and brazenly ignored as much precedent as they needed to to assure that Bush was elected.
The scene is somewhat chaotic here as many Londoners are concerned both about reports that the Parliament may be hung for the first time since 1974 and that many voters have been turned away in areas where Nick Clegg and the Liberal Democrats were expected to so well.
We're going to have another Ale and settle in for a long night and listen to the debates going on all around us.
Fiddlesticks!

THE CAPTAIN REPORTS:
ReplyDeleteSo you want to be a Circuit Court Judge .....
A reminder that, applications to the JNC to replace retiring Judge Judith Kreeger, are due no later than Monday, May 10, 2010. Applicants must submit their application, (along with 10 copies) to JNC Chair Marc Romance.
Mr. Romance and his merry committee will be quite busy as the Governor will be naming Judge Gerstein's replacement on Friday or Monday. And with that announcment will come an opening in the County Court (Brennan, Fernandez or Gayles moving on up) and the JNC will be accepting applications one more time.
And Rumpy, I had no idea you were east of the pond. I'm here in Dublin and celebrating in my favorite Thursday nite pub, Turk's Head, where 2 euros will buy you a pint.
Captain Liberty Out .....
Rumpole
ReplyDeleteBloody lunny I'd say. What does she who must be obeyed say. Is Portia standing for election or does she have the ermine ?

THE CAPTAIN REPORTS:
ReplyDeleteADRIEN in the news again .....
Rumpole's 3rd DCA review forgot to include a case involving Judge Adrien.
The case was a simple run of the mill slip and fall. It was defended by Frank Angones, (former President of The Florida Bar). Angones moved to disqualify Adrien because, back in 2004, Angones had file suit against Adrien over Adrien's use of the "Camacho" name he was using during his election for Circuit Court Judge.
Adrien denied the recusal motion. The 3rd DCA REVERSED and ruled that "the Motion to recuse should have been granted".

Cap Out ....
Geez, Adrien.
ReplyDeleteA first year law student would know that you grant that motion.
Let's see, a lawyer who sued to remove you from the bench wants to move his case out of your division and you say "no?" Even the other side must have been scratching their head after that ruling. What a colossal waste of judical time and energy.
And to think we'll have to endure six more years of him.
The Captain Reports:
ReplyDeleteSupreme Court - Circuit Court ...
So, which name will we hear first? Obama expected to possibly name his nominee to the Supreme Court today while Crist expected to name Gerstein's replacement sometime after lunch today.
Tick Tock
Cap Out .....
Rumpole, you bloody stupid bastard, the Conservatives are known as TORIES, not TORRIES. Keep to your side of the pond you bloody Yank.
ReplyDeleteOf course I know how to spell Torie. But man did I drink a lot last night. That ale just flows, and then there was the wine, and a few shots to celebrate local candidates. And with all the jostling in the Pub it was a wonder I got the post up at all.
ReplyDeleteMan do I have a headache. What time is it across the pond?
Rumpole, my lad, the hour of five o'clock is coming nigh.
ReplyDeleteAnd as for my drinking habits, a cider and black is my drink of choice, with the occasional India Pale Ale.
Adrien's persistence in stupidity is what never ceases to amaze me.
ReplyDeleteTHE CAPTAIN REPORTS:
ReplyDeleteCONGRATS TO OUR NEW CIRCUIT COURT JUDGE - JOSE FERNANDEZ
Judge Fernandez was a pit prosecutor at the Dade SAO for 4 years before entering private practice for 13 years, handling mostly DUI work. He ran for and won a County Court seat in 2006 and has been on the bench for just over three years now. Today, he got the call from Gov. Crist and now he moves on to the Circuit Court.
Well deserved and we wish him the best of luck in his new assignment.

THE CAPTAIN REPORTS:
ReplyDeleteThe White House is knocking down rumors racing across Washington today that President Obama has decided on Solicitor General Elena Kagan as the next nominee to the Supreme Court, and that he'll announce it on Monday. "Pure speculation," a White House official told BLT this morning, adding that no decision has been made.
CAP OUT .....
