JUDGE EDWARD DAVIS HAS PASSED AWAY.

Edward Davis, Former Chief Judge of the Southern District of Florida, and one of the very best Judges and human beings we have ever practiced before has passed away.

David O Markus who clerked for Judge Davis has more words of remembrance on his blog, and they are very fitting. So we'll leave the eulogies to Mr. Markus who hit it right on the head when he wrote that Judge Davis was a Man's Man. He was also a Judge's Judge. Kind. Compassionate. Wise. A great sense of humor.

We won't see his like in these parts again.

Rest in Peace Judge.

UP NEXT: The Corrections Kerfuffle continued.

AND COMING SOON: IN DEFENSE OF RAND PAUL.

  2. Judge Davis was a friend and mentor to me. I met him as a 23 year old law clerk. He always had time to give advice and a kind word, and he never had a hint of robe fever.

To me, he represented everything that is right about what we do.

    RIP Boomer.

Fake Word of the Day Guys says:

    "kerfuffle "

A social imbroglio or brouhaha. An organizational misunderstanding leading to accusations and defensiveness.

I spend half my time these days on tbe phone with HR, ever since Bob started that kerfuffle with his flaming e-mail to everyone in the sociology department.

A minor disturbance or disagreement. Smaller than a contretemps, larger than a snag, involving more people or things than a SNAFU or a stink.

Lawton couldn't understand all of the kerfuffle over the suggestive signage at Herbert's Sherbert.

  4. I used to ask the Mag clerk to only get me court appointed in his court. He was such a great guy.

    Ed, we will miss you.

  5. One of the greats in Miami judicial history. A gentleman, who never lost sight of from where he came. Always had a smile and a kind word for every lawyer with whom he came in contact. Many of our current Federal judges could learn something from his career.

A pretty decent baseball player in his time. He earned the name "Boomer" for obvious reasons.

    He will be sorely missed.

  6. If you're coming on here to look for the comment where you cursed at a gentleman who wrote a fine comment about Judge Davis, do me a favor. Just hold your breath until I post it. Any moment now......

  8. I think about Judge Davis and I am forced to contrast such a fantastic person with our current pathetic Judiciary. Newman v. Davis - Newman v. Seraphin.....think about the difference in the quality of these Judges.

Rump- I'd love to get your input on this, but I think its high time to get some serious NEW BLOOD on the bench in county- (I know that some of these folks are immune for a while but whatever happened to a good coup)

NEWMAN-- Vote him out- crazy, inept, rude to Defense and Defendants. The guy literally is in a different universe where he has no idea how off he is- I'd say this is a change BUT lets not forget his auspicious beginning that earned nickname special ed. The word on the street anyway is that he is gone. The cops, Defense and wits all can't stand him. Time for a Change.

Slom- When its time, Vote him out- he just doesnt get it- another guy who lives in his own universe where he thinks he is helping us out but just totally complicates our jobs for the worse. Every time he enters a new admin order I cringe. Bloom would be a great replacement-

Bloom- Keep her in- She is what the future needs-

Fernandez- HAHAHAHA- whats that saying about keeping your friends close and your enemies closer...

Seraphin- Vote Him out! Cant keep his courtroom moving- going in there is like getting stuck at a broken red light. kiss your hour goodbye.

Seff- Keep her in. I know that she gets mixed reviews but I think she is smart, pretty fair and doesnt light folks up on sentencing if they go to trial.

Krieger- Keep her in! Great Judge, fair and always even tempered, plus gives the state a run for their money (or lack thereof).

The point here is that we need some change. Newman is a good start- GET HIM OUTTA HERE. Then maybe that will at least get the ball a ' rollin!

  9. Constitutionally speaking gentlemen, you have Rumpole, then the Captan, then the Colonel of County Court, then me.

Until Rumpole or one of those others returns to the blog, I am in charge here.
