  2. Have you seen Manny Alvarez? I put his bench press against Ed Newman's any day of the week. And as for legal accumen, Manny Alvarez hands down!

    ReplyDelete
  3. And still no opponent for William Johnson? Absurd.

    ReplyDelete
  4. Manny has definitely picked on somebody his own size. The problem is that Ed will pull out all the stops- raise tons of dough, flood the town with signs in Aqua and Orange and I give the edge to our own Ed.

ST. PAUL, Minn. - Former Vikings great Carl Eller has lost an appeal of his conviction stemming from a 2008 arrest on suspicion of drunken driving.

The Minnesota Court of Appeals on Tuesday affirmed the conviction of Eller for assault and refusing to submit to a chemical test. Minneapolis police pulled him over two years ago and he served 60 days in the county workhouse.

The appellate court rejected Eller's claims of insufficient evidence and errors by the trial court.

Eller was one of the Vikings' celebrated "Purple People Eaters" in his 15 years with Minnesota from 1964-78. He played in six Pro Bowls and all four of the Vikings' Super Bowl appearances. He was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2004.

  7. If they ran against Shelly--anyone should be ready to defend their seat....just look at Broawrd!

  8. To the poster asking about William Johnson- there is probably some hispanic lawyer with barely over 5 years in the bar waiting to hop in that one on April 30th--time will tell......

    ReplyDelete
  9. I going to hop on the Newman bandwagon, and you should too.

Paling around with Shula at the fundraisers, drinking a few tall cold ones with Czonk and flirting with Dolphin cheerleaders at fundraisers isn't a bad way to spend an evening out.

  10. Can Anyone give me an update on the ol'gunner- Bob Godwin? PD extraordinaire.

    ReplyDelete
  11. lets get it right. Newman is a kounty kourt judge, not circuit court.and, prior to becoming a judge he had only 5 years of practice and I doubt he ever tried a jury trial by himself or first chair. But I think he is a fine judge.

    ReplyDelete
  12. anyone know what the verdict was on the milton ferrell civil case?

    ReplyDelete
  13. Please post all the other seats that are up.

    ReplyDelete
  14. So now that Ed has opposition, instead of him saying "can I help," is it the defense lawyers that should approach the podium and say "can I help?"

    ReplyDelete
  15. If I am not mistaken Ellers teammate Alan Page is the chief justice of the Minnesota supreme court.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Is it true Rory Stein is going to run?

    ReplyDelete
  17. Can somone post a photo of Manny Alvarez. I can not place the face with the name.

    ReplyDelete
  18. If Manny Alvarez is in this race, I'm voting for him. Then again, if a cardboard cut-out entered against good 'ol Special Ed, I'd vote for him too. But seriously, Manny's a good, sharp guy who would be a breath of fresh air in county court. Go Manny!

Crist Backer Uses Ethnic Terms About Rubio
    By DAMIEN CAVE
MIAMI — Gov. Charlie Crist proudly announced the endorsement of Col. Bud Day, the Vietnam veteran beloved by conservatives for his membership in the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth. Then Colonel Day complicated matters.

He apparently couldn’t help but link the skin color of one foe of the right – President Obama – with that of Mr. Crist’s opponent in the Florida Senate Race, Marco Rubio, who is the son of Cuban immigrants. Here’s what Colonel Day told the Northwest Florida Daily News, his local paper in the Panhandle:

“You know, we just got through (electing) a politician who can run his mouth at Mach 1, a black one, and now we have a Hispanic who can run his mouth at Mach 1. You look at their track records and they’re both pretty gritty.”

Colonel Day continued, making clear that he didn’t think much of either man for their fast-talking or use of teleprompters. “You’ve got the black one with the reading thing,” he said. “He can go as fast as the speed of light and has no idea what he’s saying. I put Rubio in that same category.”

How will Republican voters respond? In Miami’s conservative Cuban community, Colonel Day’s comments will sting, but among many of the Panhandle voters that Colonel Day has been enlisted to attract, fear of Hispanic influence is not uncommon.

The towns around where Mr. Day lives in Fort Walton Beach received their largest influx ever of Hispanic immigrants during the real estate boom, and as the bust arrived, residents began to be more vocal about what they saw that to mean. Cultural and economic concerns predominated: The police raided several businesses with Hispanic workers, with or without evidence of illegal immigrants present, and in a half-dozen reporting trips in two years, I’ve heard many versions of the same complaint: We don’t want to become Miami.

The fear, as stated tacitly by some, but also directly by others – people like Harry T. Buckles, a Navy veteran I met and wrote about two years ago in Santa Rosa County – is that all of Florida will become like South Florida, where as much as two-thirds of the population speaks a language other than English at home, and where former immigrants are serving on the top rungs of government.

Mr. Rubio, a product of Miami who rose to become speaker of the Florida House, seems to represent exactly that, at least for a certain crowd. In a similar vein, some Tea Party activists in the Villages, the sprawling retirement community north of Orlando, have recently begun demanding more information from Mr. Rubio about his stance on immigration.

And perhaps with those voters in mind, the Rubio campaign on Tuesday chose not to criticize Colonel Day for his comments.

“Col. Bud Day is an American war hero, and we’re grateful for his service to our nation,” said Alex Burgos, a Rubio spokesman, in an e-mail message. “We hope this race will be focused on the real issues of importance to Florida voters, namely which candidate can be trusted to go to Washington, take on the Obama agenda and offer a clear alternative. We’re not holding our breath, but we hope Charlie Crist will eventually realize this.”

  23. I just don't understand why Newman has to act like a bully one minute and be sweet and nice the next. He seems to be bi-polar, or something.

He thinks he has to raise his voice to say "DENIED", and act like he's pissed off. He has no clue about the rules of evidence or predicates for admissibility.

In his first election campaign he filed before he was a lawyer for 5 years and had to be disqualified.

He's missing a piece of the puzzle.
There's a reason why we call him Special Ed.

  24. the best race ever: Robert Koppel Vs. Rory Stein for a judicial seat --winner of that race will actually have to do more work than they do now!!

  25. Newman is history. a cuban will trounce a jew in this town. too bad, although I am not a kounty kourt guy, unless I get a 25k fee, the few times I was in front of Judge N. he seemed ok. and he was an associate for John Sutton who was blinded by hid son and lost his wife to the little prick. Ed has been supportive of John and is a decent human being, although he lacks experience in private practice .

  36. Rumpy- Can you explain why Ana Maria Polo (this Miami lawyer who has a court show on Telemundo) calls herself Doctora? All she has is a law degree accoring to info on the web? Rumpy, do you call yourself Dr????

She has been practicing since 1989 according to the Florida Bar website, yet claims to graduate from FIU law school. Wouldnt that be hard since FIU law school did not exist in 1989???

She is a doctor? Are you kidding?? How many of us JD's run around calling ourselves Dr? You would look like a complete jackass....what do you have to say about her graduating from FIU Law School in 1989??? HAHAHA

    ReplyDelete
  47. Rump, you dummy. That link for "Best Attorney" at 3:55 am is for a bankruptcy law office in California. C'mon, take that crap down.

  50. Ed Newman is a slightly diluted version of Shelly Shwartz, not as irrational or crazy but not too far off. The best thing you can say about him is that he beats up on the State as much as us....this should be a good wake up call-

  51. Ed is the bounden in Group 7 for County Court Judge in and for Miami-Dade County.Newman charcoal heavily complex with the Miami Dolphins Alumni and makes several alms appearances anniversary year. He frequently presides over apish trials for the University of Miami School of Law, and added universities.

    Personally i like him.
