IS TODAY THE DAY?

UPDATE: here is the complaint in Scotty boy's case courtesy of the Miami Herald. Judge Cohn gets the case. He could have done a whoooooollllle lot worse in Ft. Lauderdale Federal Court which is a veritable mine field. I was somehow expecting that Judge D would have pulled the case. Just a guess.

UPDATE: YES IT IS. CBS 4 and reporter Jim Defede have reported that Scott Rothstein surrendered to the FBI and was in custody at 7:45 am today.

Various local news outlets including the Miami Herald (motto:
"If it's news, we'll get around to it at some point") , The Daily Pulp, and most importantly, the Justice Building's "Captain" are reporting that disgraced Fort Lauderdale Attorney Scott Rothstein will be taken into custody sometime Tuesday afternoon to faces RICO charges (but not driving without shoes).

The Sun Sentinel via Mike Mayo is reporting that Rothstein has said he will NOT turn himself in. Mayo's article is a good read on just how obnoxious Rothstein can be.

Good move there Scotty boy. You stole about a billion bucks, impersonated a
Federal Judge, flew off to Morocco (but did come back which also wasn't the brightest thing to do) and now you're shooting your mouth off and refusing to surrender.

Who is giving you advice, Tiger Woods? (Tiger will be charged with driving without shoes).

The Captain asked people to speculate about bond. Here's Rumpole's predication: NO BOND. Risk of flight (check); Danger to the Community (check); Dumb beyond all measure(double check).

Updates all day as we watch Scotty boy run. And a quick memo to the FBI- check those "orders" Scotty boy may have, supposedly signed by a local Magistrate, a partial copy of which we obtained at considerable expense and reprint for your enjoyment:

"That this court is shocked by the government's contumacious behavior.
That because of the government's misconduct, all police agencies are ordered not to arrest one Scott Rothstein, and if he is arrested, he is to be released forwith.
That due to the government's malfeasance, the US Treasury is directed to released one hundred million dollars forth with to one Scott Rothstein.
That the government, through their misconduct has waived their right to appeal- those who seek equity must have clean socks.
Done and other stuff this day in Ft. Laudedale, Florida....."

(yes, we know Scotty boy misspelled Fort Lauderdale and forthwith)

  5. Rumpole, what is your obsession with Scott Rothstein? I'm not defending the man--shitbags like him are a large reason lawyers are largely distrusted, and he deserves everything he has coming to him (and then some). My guess is that you were at one time close to him and then 1) had a falling out with him; 2) he screwed you over; 3) he ripped you off/scammed you or 4) a combination of some or all of the above.

  6. Another high profile white collar criminal gets to surrender himself to authorities. Why wasn't the attorney in my story afforded the same courtesy?

  7. Kudos on the no bond predic, Rumpole. What do you think his threshold is for changing the plea? I'm thinking 20 years.

  8. I am fascinated by Rothstein. Never met him. Despite our mutual affinity for NetJets, we didn't run in the same circles, and thankfully don't now.

I guess it's just that good times or bad, for almost 30 years now I have gotten up every morning and slogged through my day, sometimes for a lot of money, mostly not. I just wonder what makes a guy like him tick. he didn't have one luxury car, but like 6. He didn't buy one mansion and one vacation home, but several of each. I just don't get it.

  9. Reminder for all those attorneys involved with civil traffic infractions (cue bottom feeder comments):

Judges Slom and Leifman will be meeting tomorrow (Wed) at 2 pm in ct room 1-4 to adress any issues regarding civil infractions.

This is our opportunity to have our voices heard. Please think of thoughts and suggestions for changing the system, as well as gripes you may have.

  16. Rothstein amazes me too Rump. But for different reasons, maybe the same. I am no crook, but lets say for argument sake I decided to steal hundreds of millions and then stash about 20 million in a country with no extradition, I would certainly not be returning unless Dog the Bounty Hunter brought me back against me will. Scottie, you had in made in Morocco. Now you will be bunking with Madoff for the rest of your life. STUPID.

  22. "All told, Rothstein and the lawyers associated with his firm gave more than $2.1 million to state and federal candidates and political committees since he allegedly began his scam in 2005.

Crist, a Republican, received more contributions from Rothstein and attorneys of his law firm, Rothstein Rosenfeldt Adler, than any other candidate this year: $80,450 for his U.S. Senate bid, according to campaign finance records.

Asked whether he would return all the money now that federal authorities are alleging Rothstein's contributions were tainted, Crist said: ``Well, certainly, if there's evidence that indicates [wrongdoing] that's exactly what we would do.''

Dozens of other politicians are preparing to do the same.

Rothstein was so instrumental in Crist's successful 2006 governor's race that Crist appointed him to a panel that nominated Broward County judicial candidates. One of Crist's Democratic political opponents for the U.S. Senate, Maurice Ferré, said Crist should be investigated because Rothstein contributed large sums to the Republican Party of Florida at about the same time that Crist picked judges Rothstein favored.

    ``It's absurd,'' Crist said.

Republicans accused Rothstein of attempting to hatch a similar pay-to-play judicial scheme with Democratic Chief Financial Officer Alex Sink, who is running for governor. Sink called the allegations ridiculous.

Except for Sink, a few Democrats and a single $200,000 check Rothstein gave to the Florida Democratic Party in September, most of Rothstein's political contributions went to Republicans. The state's Republican Party has received at least $628,000 from Rothstein and his firm since 2005."

  23. BREAKING NEWS! Good news for Republican candiates running for office in Florida, bad news for Democrats.

    Fla. justices approve corruption investigation

    The Associated Press

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- The Florida Supreme Court has approved Gov. Charlie Crist's revised request to impanel a statewide grand jury to investigate public corruption.

The justices issued a unanimous order Wednesday, just two days after rejecting Crist's initial request on a 6-1 vote.

The high court on Monday said Crist failed to allege the general crimes or wrongs to be investigated covering more than a single judicial circuit as required by law.

Crist immediately filed an amended request that filled in those blanks.

    More Breaking News:
In a related story the Gov. stated that his opposition Kendrick Meek will be the first investigated. After which all candidates for Governor who are oppossing Atty Gen McCullum will be next. If there is time other Democrats will be investigated.

Don Cohn, enjoy the time you have left. I am aiming to take you out of office.
