Jason Grey sent us this email

Dear rumpole, my wife of 15 years died monday at 4:41. she had struggled against cancer for 8 long years and couldn't go on she leaves me our 8 year old son jordan and literally hundreds of friends behind. I  ask you for a favor. ileana was a court reporter in the building from 1990 until 1997 many there knew her and loved her. she was truly the kindest sweetest person ever known. I have had a harder time dealing with this than I thought i would, even though it was long coming. here is my request: I am asked as many as 20 times a day how is Ily? How is your wife? I dont think i can tell 100 people what happened and answer all the questions ....

Could You pls post some type of announcement?

Rumpole:  The funeral details are in blue.  It's a link.

  14. Ileana Grey was a beautiful person, inside and out, and she of all people did not deserve to suffer as she did. Her loss is a tragedy. Jason and their son are in my thoughts and prayers.

  15. Jason:

I am so sorry to hear of your loss.
My wife died of cancer four years ago. She was sick for six months and I always knew what the end result would be. Even though I had plenty of time to prepare, nothing I did prepared me for the devastating sense of loss I felt. The only thing that kept me going was our then-15 year old son, who I had to be there for. I realized that even though I lost my best friend of thirty years, he lost his mom as a kid- a far greater loss than mine.
Many well-intentioned people tried to help, but I just wanted to be left alone and not have to answer the same questions over and over. You will find a way to communicate your needs to your friends and family. There are a lot of idiots who will tell you their "cancer story" and how their loved one survived. Try hard not to kill these people.
Today, I have had to move on and live the rest of my life. I have found happiness and joy, but there will always be a hole in my heart and my soul.
One day, if you feel like talking, I will be there for you. It will help me in my grieving process as much as it will help you.

  18. Ileana gave me the sense that I could be ok and that my world was relatively unimportant---while she was for so long fighting this terrible disease. If only I could have part of her courage, I will have lived well.
Jason, I wish you and the boy sincere blessings, and in time her memory will hopefully bring peace.

  24. I feel blessed to have known Ileana. The saying, "only the good die young" apparently and unfortunately is very true. Ileana was beautiful inside and out. She always had a big smile on her face regardless of how she really (physically) felt. She was couragous! My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family at this difficult time. She will be missed!

  27. Jason, I'm so glad Ily met you. I remember when you first used to come to the court reporting pool to talk to her....and talk and talk and talk. Boy, can you talk! If it was her destiny to have this illness, I just thank God that she had you. You took very good care of her and she had a lot of fun with you and a most beautiful son. She was so sweet and so funny. I'm so sorry for your pain, but she deserved the best and so I'm so happy she had you. You're a good man.

  30. I read this blog regularly. I rarely post. Occasionally, I think of a witty comment, but generally refrain from posting it unless I believe that it adds something significant.

I did not know Ileana. Perhaps, I would know Mr. gray if I saw him. None the less, I wanted to express my deepest condolences to Mr. Gray and his family. I am saddened to hear of his loss. - JK

  36. Ily was one of my closet friends. My chemo buddy. We spoke several times a week. I loved her so much. Weeks before she passed she gave me a perfume set from Victoria's Secret for my birthday. A very nice gesture. That was Ily gave selflessly. It was very hard for me to function when she passed. I cried but two days before she died she texted me and told me she was tired. I hope Jordan is doing better.
