MY GOODNESS I AM GOOD. I mean, calling a 12 point road underdog to win against "the best (achk achk) team in the NFL"- who else does that in print and in public except yours truly? I tried to tell Mr. Markus to switch his pick. He should stick to trying cases before Judge Middlebrooks, and I should stick to picking football games.
Lost the Bungles bet. -165. Won the Under Sants +100 and WON the Redskins over the Cowpokes- +75. An anemic +10 for the week, but that's what we get for a Bungles bet. (Plus, in our defense, we did not know they were sitting Carson Palmer. ) We finish week 4 +580.
Gotta love the battle of Ohio. McCain vs. Obama. Bungles vs. Brownies. Someone, anyone, is coming out of this game with a win. We were impressed with the Bungles last week. They are at home -4. Marvin Lewis is a much better coach than Romeo Crenel, and the Brownies are in the middle of a QB crisis, after blowing 50 million on a one year wonder.Hahahahaha. Take the Bengals at home -4 +150.
Redskins at Cowpokes. The pokes are favored -12. We said we don't like Dallas, and we mean it. Skins on the road +12. +75.
San Fran and their (latest) wonder QB travel to the Big Easy and take on the Saints. The over is 48.5. Are you kidding me? Under -100.
SUICIDE POOL.
David O Markus picks the Cowpokes, Goodbye David. Skins win on the road.
(at the half, things not looking good for our federal blogger. Skins 17, Pokes 7)
FINAL: GOODBYE DAVID. Skins 26 Pokes 17.
Rumpole: Saints. -winner
Rick Freedman: Jags.-overtime winner
Surph- "after further review the ruling is Surph picked the Jags. He is in and safe."
Now we are down to three.
Working with a client tomorrow at their office, so I may not be able to get the suicide picks up. But your email has to arrive before the game you pick begins. Steelers/Ravens for anyone who misses Sunday for Monday night.

If you click on the link on the main page to the game politics blog, you will see a few articles on the disbarment of Jack Thompson. If you read some of what is written and click on the links, you can see the history of the threats, wild emails, and general bullying that Mr. Thompson engaged in. Some of it is a real eye opener.
ReplyDeleteKellogg: ...what [Thompson] does in these situations -- is he attacks the lawyers for those he wants to do something with... once he learned that I was involved, he started sending me communications to me about my client and about me to others. He also started copying me with all the communications he was sending to others... the F.C.C., third parties of every sort...
ReplyDeleteI had another matter out in Denver... So I went out to Denver and I didn't get back to Mr. Thompson quick enough for him. So I started getting e-mails threatening that he was going to sue me personally if I didn't arrange a meeting. He sent me an e-mail giving me deadlines. I must have this meeting -- agree to this meeting -- by a certain date or things were going to happen. I was getting all these e-mails, but I was out on another matter and I didn't think it was the most important thing in my life was to arrange a meeting with him. So because I didn't do it fast enough for him, he sent a series of letters... and this was the basis for my initial Bar complaint, why I got involved for the first time in 26 years in a Bar proceeding. I've never filed a Bar complaint and I've never been involved in one prior to this day. This is what made me do it...
Al Cardenas is my partner. Al Cardenas has never represented Beasley and he had never done anything
personally on behalf of Beasley up to that time and never has since. He's never billed an hour of time. He's never talked to them about any legal matter. He's never represented them in any way. He was simply an innocent bystander, who happens to have been the co-chair of President Bush's Florida campaign. He is involved in politics. He's well known as being involved in politics on the Republican side and he knows very well Jeb Bush and he knows George Bush and [Florida Governor] Charlie Crist. He knows them all and they all know who he is.... So Mr. Thompson, because I wouldn't get a meeting with him fast enough...[made the following statements regarding Mr. Cardenas.]:
From Judge Tunis' Report: On March 17, 2005, [Thompson] sent a letter to Florida Governor Jeb Bush stating that Al Cardenas, a partner in the Tew Cardenas law firm, “...has been involved in facilitating the commission of criminal activity in violation of 18 USC 1464 and other federal and state criminal statutes.” Respondent further stated: More specifically, Mr. Cardenas personally and his firm collectively have actively protected the distribution of pornographic material to children and helped target me and my family because of my alerting federal authorities to this activity and Mr. Cardenas’s and his firm’s involvement in it... This makes Mr. Cardenas and his firm involved, in my legal opinion, in a statewide racketeering activity...
The next day on March 18, 2005, [Thompson] wrote Mr. Cardenas: "Not having received it [a return telephone call], and [Thompson's then-attorney] Ray Reiser and I not having heard from your partner Mr. Kellogg about our requested meeting with Caroline Beasley, I alerted the Daily Business Review here in Miami that I have asked Governor Bush to direct the Statewide Prosecutor to investigate your law firm’s receipt of fees from a multi-county criminal activity that violates federal criminal statutes."
Thus, Mr. Thompson explicitly states that the reason he is requesting an investigation by a Statewide Prosecutor from Governor Bush, and simultaneously notifying the primary daily legal newspaper in Miami, is because he did not receive a return telephone call from Mr. Kellogg.
Kellogg: Once he found out about the Bar complaint [that I filed against him]... I knew exactly how he was going to respond. He was going to go after my clients, he was going to go [sic] my partners, he was going to go after my employees, he was going to go after me, and he was going to say Beasley was behind it -- not true. I thought hard about whether I should do this, but I tell you. I had seen him do this to so many other people in the short time that I had been exposed to him and I said, "I'm just not going to sit by and let him do it."
Many of these communications were copied to every person in my firm. I made the decision to block Mr. Thompson’s e-mails from everyone in my firm except for me; and the reason I didn't block them from me is because I was still representing a client, Beasley, and I had to read the garbage that he was sending me to make sure it didn't impact Beasley, but everyone else, I'd would [sic] block it. I had to block it. Occasionally, he would change his e-mail address and some would get through and now I'd have to deal with the reaction. You can imagine. I've got a 50 lawyer law firm that everybody in it -- including lots of secretaries -- would get stuff about me and Al Cardenas being pornographers or mentally molesting children and that sort of thing...
I don't need to answer anything. There are 90 Judges in Broward. Many of them the worst in the nation. And a person with the last name "Dijols" gets two opponents?
ReplyDeleteYou and Mardi Levey Cohen explain to me why she chose to run against DiJols, and while you're at it, explain why she ran once as Levey-Cohen and once as Levey? Because if you believe that bullshit about not wanting to capitalize on her husband's name, then I have a bridge in Alaska that hasn't been built yet to sell to you.
its Caymus Special SELECT, Rumpole. SPECIAL SELECT.
ReplyDeleteGo back to your swill if you can't get it right.
what is all this about
ReplyDeleteOh it was good.
ReplyDeleteCan you believe Sean Payton kicking a field goal with 35 seconds left. The Saints are up 28-17? That makes the total 45, and he kicks a field goal so the total is 48. Sounds like a guy who had the over to me. Luckily the line we used with the pick was 48.5. But it was a classless act.
BTW- I like the over in the Cardinals-Jets game.
Rumpolium, I have been thinking. Richard Hersch's associate is mucho caliente.
ReplyDeleteI mean I was thinking the other day that I'd like to conduct some voire dire there because I think after "seeing and speaking" not to mention touching and nbibling, there is more than meets the eye there.

ReplyDeleteYou are smart enough not to mix apples and oranges, aren't you Rump? Levey's using her maiden name and running against a latin are totally different issues.
ReplyDeleteWhether Levey used a different name to run than she did last time is irrelevant, according to the 4th DCA, so long as it was a name she could legally use. It was.
Moreover, what does it have to do with running against Dijols? She did not change her name from a latin or non jewish name to a jewish name, she changed it from jewish to jewish. How is that at all relevant to Dijols ethnicity?
What if she changed it to run against and beat Aleman, would you not be kissing her ass right now?
As to whether she and Bober ran against Dijols solely because of his ethnicity, is a question only they can answer. Feel free to write her a letter or give her a call and ask her.
Meanwhile, I am asking you again, since you are the one who made the accusation, to establish upon what foundation other than your own opinion it is based?
ugh, how annoying. marion barber only carries the ball 8 times. nice game plan...
ReplyDeleteAnyone, Levey-Cohen-Parcells who runs against Aleman and wins deserves a Nobel prize of some sort.
ReplyDeleteI do not believe her name change and her decision to run against Dijols are apples and oranges. They are Leveys and Cohens. She tried one name -Cohen- it did not work. Another person using a Levy or Levey name was just elected Judge in the last election, so her motive for switching her name is obvious. Unless you really believe her unbelievable testimony- contradicted by facts like her firm website- that she did not want to trade on her husband's name as a Judge. In fact, the Florida Bar sanctioned her for that, did they not?
So now, of all the candidates in Broward- she picks DIJOLS to run against. I believe Res Ipsa Loquitor is sufficient here. Unless you're one of those former LA OJ Jurors who believes everyone is innocent unless you have a videotape of the crime.
What I am doing is putting facts together and reaching an entirely consistent conclusion. I have not called her a racist. I have said she played a name game and lost and her punishment fits the crime.
Rump,
ReplyDeleteReally going out on a limb a "4:24:00 PM" with the over on the Jets/Cards game, considering the game started at 1:00 and over 80 points were scored by the time you made your prediction.
So your years of legal experience leads you to conclude that she lost with the name Cohen (the most jewish of names) a few years ago, so she chose to use another jewish name, her maiden name of Levey, because another candidate with that name happened to win with it? In other words, the substance of the name game you believe she was playing was that she came to the conclusion that Levey is more of a popular name in the jewish community than Cohen, so she went with it?
ReplyDeleteBy the way, she also was going up against another opponent in that race, Bober, also jewish. Did she go against him for racial reasons, or was she playing the gender game with him?
Finally, how can you say she lost? At least vis a vis, Dijols, she beat him in the polls, and beat him at the 4th. What happens at the runoff remains to be seen, but she is still fighting for election, and Dijols is looking for a job.
Judge Michael Salmon was one if not the best judge to serve Miami Dade County in at least the past 40 years. He had the intellect! He had the compassion! He had the wisdom! He had the patiance of a Saint. He was a true gentleman and scholar.
ReplyDeleteHis name was submitted for higher judicial office, but unfortunatley for all, that dream was never realized.Wait, better for all in this community that thru his judicial carreer he remained a trial judge.
Does anyone know of the funeral arraingements? Please post!
Shelly Schwartz
8:38 PM- It was a joke obviously. I put my predictions on the front page, hours before the games start and I rest on my results.
ReplyDeleteAs to the Cohen-Levey mess- the answer is yes. She tried anything and everything to get a job as a judge based on her name and in my opinion not a whole lot else. I think she lied to Judge Feder when she testified about not wanting to trade on her Husband's name.
In the end, Character is what you do when no one is looking.
I have no idea why she finished third to DiJols, but I can tell you as someone who does not know Bober, Levey sounds a lot more jewish/ethnic than Bober does to my Miami ears. And Dijols sounds very Hispanic to me. And I think that is just what she wanted, and as my mother used to tell me- be careful what you ask for in life because you may just get it.
The only thing I will concede in this conversation is that Ms. Levey did just what almost every other candidate who runs for Judge does. The difference is- like Nixon- she got caught. And just because everyone does it - does not make it right. I refuse to play the name game and that's why I won't run for Judge. Character is what you do when no one is looking.

THE CAPTAIN REPORTS:
ReplyDeletefrom the NY Times....
Attorney General Michael B. Mukasey appointed a special prosecutor on Monday to investigate whether criminal charges should be brought against former Attorney General Alberto R. Gonzales and other officials in connection with the firings of nine of United States attorneys in 2006.
The move came as the Justice Department released a report by its inspector general severely criticizing the process that led to the firings.
“The report makes plain that, at a minimum, the process by which nine U.S. attorneys were removed in 2006 was haphazard, arbitrary and unprofessional, and the way in which the Justice Department handled those removals and the resulting public controversy was profoundly lacking,” Mr. Mukasey said in a statement. The report called for further investigation to determine whether prosecutable offenses were committed either in the firings or in subsequent testimony about them.

Daniel Levy for Judge.
ReplyDeleteMajor props to Republican representative John Boehner. He blames the failed bailout bill on a speech by a democrat pelosi). What a great way to show party unity "he, we were gonna vote for it, but someone told us not to, and since we are to stupid to make our decisions, we changed our vote at the last minute". so now lets blame the democrats b/c apparently the democrats stole our free will.
ReplyDeletewashington politics is a joke. what a sad country we are in and all our leaders can do is point fingers. JOhn Boehner; you are an embarassment. if you truly believe in america, resign your post to any eighth grader who passed a civics class.
Rump, you still can't get out of your own way with your facts, Levey finished second, behind Bober, and ahead of Dijols, who finished third.
ReplyDeleteI appreciate that after almost two days of this back and forth, you finally admit that your point of view on this is just that, your opinion, and nothing else.
Blog faithful,
