UPDATE: Palin hires legal counsel in "Trooper-gate" probe. See below.
The title links to the NY Times article.
Talk about lack of family values.
Talk about the effects on families by working mothers. Oh my. What kind of permissive-commie-liberal state are they running in Alaska when unmarried teenage children are having unprotected sex? Shouldn't children be in church with their families rather than running around unsupervised?
Do you think John McCain had any inkling of this when he made his choice?
We think not.
Well, as republican strategists all over the country are saying "at least Alaska doesn't give out free condoms."
Update: And now comes word from USA Today that Governor Palin has retained legal counsel regarding the inquiry into the firing of an Alaskan State Trooper who coincidently happened to be the ex-husband of Governor Palin's sister.
Rumpole says: the media sharks smell blood. How many more surprises from the Palin camp are to come? It seems more and more likely (and yet, unbelievable) that McCain's people did not vet the Governor from Alaska. One or two more surprises and that is it for her.
Political historians will remember the resignation of Senator Thomas Eagleton (Dem. Missouri, 1968-1987) as the Vice Presidential nominee on the 1972 McGovern ticket after it was revealed he had undergone psychiatric treatment, including electro-shock therapy.
Right now we give her a 75% chance of staying on the ticket. One more surprise drops it to 50-50 and the next surprise is the end. Meanwhile on the first night of the McCain convention, the discussion is the storms surrounding New Orleans and Alaska, and that's not a good thing.
ROC'ING NORTH OF THE BORDER.
The Broward Blog has all the juicy details of the problems in the Regional Counsel's Office North of the Border. Flat screen TVS sitting in boxes. No money for parking for the attorneys. Large case loads- no money for investigators. Low morale. Lawyers quitting more frequently than Broward Judges holding Dade Lawyers in contempt for practicing law outside of their county.
Yeah, this ROC thing is really working out well.
Gustav passed about 70 miles southwest of New Orleans and the city was subjected to mostly CAT 1 conditions. For the most part the levee's protecting the city have held, although many smaller towns to the southwest have been hit hard and the full damage will not be known to later.
HANNA IS A HURRICANE:
From the National Weather Service 9/1/2008 5:00 PM discussion:
"THERE IS STILL SOME SPREAD AMONG THE VARIOUS TRACK MODELS WITH POTENTIAL AREAS OF IMPACT RANGING FROM SOUTH FLORIDA THROUGH THE CAROLINAS. UNTIL
HANNA TAKES A MORE DEFINITIVE MOTION...IT WILL BE DIFFICULT TO BE MORE SPECIFIC ABOUT THE POTENTIAL THREAT AREA. ALL INTERESTS ALONG THE SOUTHEASTERN UNITED STATES COASTS SHOULD MONITOR THE PROGRESS
OF THIS SYSTEM.”
"Translation: we have no idea where this thing is headed."
Court starts up again tomorrow. See you there.
BREAKING NEWS - Obama new video on Palin.
ReplyDeleteObama said in a news release on CNN that if anyone who works for his Campaign attacks Palins daughter or children will be FIRED!
ReplyDeleteI assume Rumpole you do not work for Obama? If you do Obama says you are fired.
Who really cares if a political candidates child is pregnant or is a drug addict or alcoholic etc? It just goes to show they're normal human beings with everyday problems like the rest of us.Wonder what McCain is thinking now? On the other end of the spectrum Obama's probably laughing it up!
ReplyDeleteDidn't post the steroid allegation and didn't post the name calling about Palin's daughter.
ReplyDeleteif only palin's kid had taken the time honored road by many kids of fundamentalist parents and become a butt slut this wouldnt have happened
ReplyDeleteRumpole, your readers can believe this or not- I'm a civil lawyer who reads your blog- my wife is a lawyer for the RNC- and there are two things going on-
ReplyDelete1) A draft Mitt Romney movement is taking shape among delegates who are very very worried.
2) Very very quietly McCain people are just beginning to consider moving on without Palin and one thought is to let the draft Romney people call the shots and the other is to just have McCain pull the plug, take responsibility, and move on now.
Normally I would say that Obama should take the moral high road and would agree with his release on CNN. However, the GOP does not play by the same rules. I'm sure that if one of Obama's daughters were teenaged and pregnant, Karl Rove and co. would have a field day (look what they did to McCain in the 2000 South Carolina primary, and now McCain is relying upon them). So Democrats, have a go at it.
ReplyDeleteLooks like McCain made a really shitty choice as VP. There's an old saying that a presidential candidate should pick the VP candidate that hurts him the least. McCain can win this election, but his margin for error is razor thin. He needs to run a near-perect campaign to have a decent chance. Palin could ruin any chance McCain has of winning this. Rump, I'd put the odds of her staying on the ticket at 25% right now. If anything else comes up, she's gone.
"Who really cares if a political candidates child is pregnant or is a drug addict or alcoholic etc?"
ReplyDeletemost people who dont pay attention to the election, but just focus on one or two issues. Translation: it matters to the ignorant. That's what campaigns are designed for, morons.
Obama will have to hire Don Horn to do the firing.
ReplyDeleteI am a democrat to the core and have to tell you that all this scandal (if thats what it is) just make her look more and more human. Unless you like under a rock you know that having teenagers is the most difficult part of being a good parent.
ReplyDeleteSince Palin does not beleive in abortion her daughter will have the child. Had she been one who does believe in abortion she would not have the down sydrome baby and no one I mean no one would have ever known her daughter was ever pregnant.
Her core beliefs cater to the RNC and the right wing looneys. Do not be fooled by this the McSame camp already said they knew.
I find it hard to believe that Palin would hind this from McCain. I do think the McSame camp said no biggie as the election is only 60 days from now and tried to keep a lid on it.
As to that trooper gate I can tell you that I am sure there is more to the story that will comeout soon and in favor of Palin. The Republicans are NOT dumb and she hired a lawyer so that her legal team can start sending the media documents and information to prove such.
Basically this is all too do about nothing.
PS; Rumpole you are fired from the Obama Campaign.
At this point there is 0% chance McCain will dump Palin.
ReplyDeleteYou guys need to quit reading Daily Kos and start thinking for yourselves. You mght find it liberating.
As a Democrat I frickin love it. McBush can't help himself...he's trying to give it away. What now? Mutt Romney? Will he be wearing Magic Underpants?
ReplyDeleteThe bigger story is that according to the NY Times she is a seccessionist who believes that Alaska should seceed from the Union.
ReplyDeleteIf McCain knew of the pregnancy the smart move would have been to release it as part of the introductory package, where it could have gotten some sympathetic press along with the positive moose-eating, gun-toting, beauty queen nonsense.
ReplyDeleteInstead, the drip-drip nature of the disclosures, along with troopergate and some other fun tidbits tend to reinforce the narrative that she was poorly vetted and that the choice was a misstep.
Hey, not bad for a windsurfing shlepper!
one day palins kid will be in porn just you watch
