ON RYE WITH A LITTLE MAYO AND MUSTARD

Sorry Captain, but this seems to be the prevailing sentiment on the race you just covered:

Anonymous wrote:

If the state would allow us to add the name "HAM SANDWICH" on the ballot with Manny and Migna the Sandwich would win by a landslide... How did this happen with over 10,000 attorneys in Miami Dade ...?

And then this was the first comment, which we heartily endorse:

Anonymous wrote:

Rumpole endorses the write in candidacy of David Peckins, who is indeed 100 times more qualified than either of the two candidates.

Just when you thought it was safe to head north of the border...

We know it's not April 1st, however the Broward Blog has this frightening headline under the title Elections 2009: "Is Dale Ross running for Chief Judge?

Say it ain't so Joe!

And thanks to our Broward Blogger Brothers for running our "Welcome to Our World Mike Mayo" post.

Happy Fathers Day by the way. We hope your only worry today is whether Rocco Mediate can hang on at the US Open. We're pulling for ya Rocco. We're card carrying members of the ABT club. (Anyone But Tiger).

Check out the Cocaine Cowboys documentary on Showtime this month.
It brings back memories. For those of you who joined our little world after 1990, it gives you an idea of what life in the REGJB and Miami was like back then.
Bags of cash before there was an 8300 CTR requirement.
Louie Casuso looks good.

And a VERY HAPPY 90TH Birthday to Magistrate Judge Peter Palermo. Our friends at the South Florida Lawyers Blog (the link is at the top) and Mr. Markus's federal blog were right on the ball and did not miss it.

Judge Palmero was one of the very best. Win or lose, my clients always knew they were getting a fair shake when they were in front of Judge P.

See You In Court Tomorrow.

  12. A couple of US Open observations: 1) Rocco Mediate is the best golfer you never heard of. Before his back surgery, he was always there- always in contention.

The BIG CAT Ernie Els, and Bobby Reif- seperated at birth? twins.

  13. Rocco just misses birdie...still in lead and Tiger's tee shot at two in the rough. Poor old Tiger.

  14. Hole by hole coverage of a golf tournament. Just what the blog needs. Now I've seen everything.

  15. Eldrick bogies the second hole. Drops three shots in first two holes. Poor Eldrick.

  16. ...well, all this gratuitous Tiger bashing would seem to lend some credence to earlier observations that many posters on this blog are perhaps underachieving jealous types, driven to attack achievers with petty criticisms and unfounded rumors... I was simply going to ask Rumpole, why the gratuitous slap at the greatest golfer ever? Then all day your fans chime in with breathless reports of Tiger's every failing... and then, with no more performance issues to fan, they drop into silence. What's y'all's beef, anyway?

  17. I am going to write in Don Horn, maybe he will leave the SAO and let us ASAs have a less than miserable life.

  18. Rump, the more I watch what you're doing, the more I appreciate it. Seriously. I read the Broward blog last week. I am appalled by the personal attacks, published rumors, etc.

The anonymous posters, like many here, feel free to rip members of the community despite the fact that they would never say these things in person and that these posts may embarass the victims in front of family, friends, etc. It's a damn shame. While blogs have conferred great benefit on society by allowing us to communicate in a quick and efficient fashion, I find it disturbing that they've allowed the mentally disturbed (obsessively jealous or bitter) among us to bash anyone and everyone mercilessly. I'm glad you're controlling these losers. Particularly since many of their victims are public servants making far less then they could on the outside. And, I find it unfortunate that the jokers who run other blogs (including JAA Blog) don't do the same thing (the I just run the place, I'm not responsible for the postings attitude they have makes me sick.........you can't provide the venue and claim your not responsible for the fight). Whatever happened to professionalism? Unfortunately, the anonymous posters are proving the lawyer haters right in so many ways.

Anyway, thanks again for doing such a great job. It's a shame that it's necessary, but it IS appreciated.

    BTDT

    Thank you.

  19. On electronic voting machines, how do I "write-in" anyone? I'd be happy to vote for Peckins over either of the M's.

    ReplyDelete
  20. I will not vote for either Migna or Manny. Manny was my chief in DV when I was an ASA but he has only been practicing for seven years! Not qualified enough. Migna, well I just don't like her and if she becomes judge it will go to her head. I'm going to write in Peckins name as well or leave this part of the ballot blank.

    ReplyDelete
  21. what do you mean "many posters on this blog are perhaps underachieving jealous types?"

    Most.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Well, hate to break it to people but somebody is going to win this election and become a circuit court judge with tremendous power over people in this communities' lives for the next 6 years. And it ain't going to be a ham sandwich, or a write in candidate, its going to be Manny or Migna. So, no matter how unqualified they may be, and I believe they are, it would seem that the best function lawyers who know them would be able to serve here is to illuminate people as to who would do less harm. In my view, that'd be Migna. There is nothing scarier in my mind than an idealogue prosecutor on the bench, and Manny appears to be that in spades. Neither of them will be a good judge, neither of them will do us proud. But don't hand the election to the worse of 2 evils by voting for a non-viable 3rd candidate. Wasn't anyone around FL in 2000 to learn that lesson?

    ReplyDelete
  23. 12:56 pm: What do you mean that the worse of two evils won in FL in 2000? Gore didn't win.

    ReplyDelete
  24. I am so tired of reading about the Migna- Manny sandwich because both of them are not good enough to be judges. But what amazes me is that someone thinks Migna is the lesser of the evils. How is this the lesser of two evils: Migna was fired from the Federal PD's office, banned from two Judge's courtrooms, lied in her previous campaign about how she practiced law for 20 years when in fact she was only an attorney for 11 or 12, pulled dirty tricks against Judge Schwartz and had people approach him and pressure him that he should retire, pulls dirty tricks on a regular basis and seems incompetent to most of her own PD's, judges and the rest of the public. I will vote for Peckins anytime, somebody please write him in. Migna on the other hand is the worst candidate among all the candidates who are running for judge.

    ReplyDelete
  25. I think all of us would hand over our vote to a third party if we could. Migda in particular really gets on my nerves because that woman is completely incompetent, arrogant and a bad person. Even though as a defense attorney I would usually prefer a PD over a prosecutor, I still don't want an incomopetent PD who will get reversed every single time she opens her mouth. Let's get real, she will never get elected because everyone knows how she really is. Unless someone really pulls a fast one and manages to get in as a third party, Manny will be the next judge because there is no way Migna will ever win, even if she runs 7 more times against 7 more Americans, Jews or Martians.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Migna does not stand a chance in any judicial or other political race ever. There is no way that the community of this county will ever elect her- she just has a bad reputation and has made too many enemies. She just does not have what it takes to be a judge.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Why do people think Migna will not be a fine Judge?

    ReplyDelete
  28. THE CAPTAIN REPORTS:

On Friday, after reporting on the Migna v. Manny contest, I wrote the following:

"Spirited debate today on Migna vs. Manny. I wondering whether it is time for some really qualified attorney to run as a write-in candidate?"

Over the weekend, several writers have been pushing the name of David Peckins as a write in candidate.

I want to throw my support behind such a write in campaign and would encourage each and every reader to begin spreading the word to friends and family and colleagues.

This could be the greatest grass-rootS effort in the history of a political campaign.

Soon the Daily Business Review, the Miami Herald and others will be covering stories about this effort.

Readers, do not let this die. If the JNC thinks Peckins is good ebough to be A judge, and they have said so more than a dozen times, then Peckins should be good enough for the people of Miami-Dade County.

It is time to show the real power of this BLOG. A voter always has thr right to place the name of a write-in candidate on their ballot. Now we just need to get the word out.

Let it be known, that from this day forward, we have begun the campaign to elect David Peckins as a Circuit Court Judge in Group 18.

    CAPTAIN OUT .....

  29. I'm sorry Rumpole by 3:13 IS DEAD WRONG. When the complaint was made against Jon Colby, he did get a challenger in the next election and HE WON THAT ELECTION and did a great job on the bench for the next few years until he decided to take a job in the private sector. When I speak with him when he calls me from his house on the beach in California, I would say that he made the right decision.

I tried a serious felony armed robbery case when I was a prosecutor before Judge Colby. The victim was a young boy. Colby did a great job and was very fair to the defendant and yet kind to the victim and his mom.

Why doesn't the idiot who keeps saying crap about Jon sign his name? Because he or she is a coward, that's why.

  36. If Migna and Manny had any real care for the judicial system, they both would resign and let a qualified individual be appointed to the post.

    ReplyDelete
  37. I am not a Migna fan but I worked with her at the Federal PDs. Migna resigned from the Federal PDs because of personal reasons involving her child's health. If you don't know the real story, don't make up lies and give people the wrong information. The purpose of this blog is to inform people not to make up stories that are not true.
