Did you know that as constitutional officers, Florida Judges do not have a set amount of vacation or sick time? They just take what they want and are responsible for getting their calendars covered.

ReplyDeleteJudges, by state law, do not have a set amount of sick leave or vacation time.
ReplyDeleteIt should be noted that about 8 or 9 years ago the Chief Judges Conference voted on and implemented an administrative rule setting a specific amount of time that could be taken by the judges.
I believe that you will find that it amounts to 30 days per year.
When it was implemented the Judges were mortified that they were being told what to do, until they realized it amounted to 6 weeks paid vacation. Then they shut up lest someone take that back and lessen the days.
Administrative Rules can be enforced with violations referred to JQC and Supreme Court.
And now, Florida judges can only wear black robes with no embellishments as per an order of Fla. S. Ct. CJ Jorge Labarga adopting a rule from California.
