MLK

I have a dream that my four little children

will one day live in a nation

where they will not be judged by the color of their skin

but by the content of their character.

59 comments:

  1. I went 2-2 against the spread, 0-1 on over unders. Certainly my worst weekend of the year. Can the genuis who told me they would have made a lot of money betting against me explain how? You would have went 2-2 and 1-0 which barely gives you a profit with the vig.

  2. I have a dream that one day my friends and neighbors will not be judged on who they choose to love, but by the content of their character.

    That all people are equal regardless if they choose same sex relationship or not.

    That hate will be gone from the CFC and all its followers.

    I HAVE A DREAM THAT BIGOTS WILL NO LONGER BE BIGOTS.

  4. C'mon guys. Is MLK day. Nice main board post Rump. But, I can't understand why your first post under the topic dealt with football. Why is it that we can't seem to ever honor anyone on this site appropriately.

    MLK was an incredible man, a hero to anyone with half a brain (regardless of race, religion or nationality.........I'm not African American, but I greatly appreciate what he did for our great country).

    Can't we, just once, celebrate someone without bashing him or others? Without talking football? Without diluting the conversation? Just once? Doesn't anyone deserve that? Doesn't MLK?

    ReplyDelete
  5. and to clarify that, yes, MLK deserves that, will he get it on THIS blog?

    No.

  6. This is a gossip blog. If this is the place that you come to honor others then.....

  8. Rump. I know that you started this blog with good intentions, but you have become a little Walter Winchell at his worst. For whatever reason you created it, this blog has become a cesspool of gossip that is truly hurtful to some. Take it down. You will never have to worry about revealing yourself, and the little fun that we had will be over. Think about this. One day hopefully a long time from now, you, like the rest of us, will die. When that day comes, you will be revealed, as there will be no more posts. Instead of being upset by your death, people will despise you for the things that you wrote about them and those around them. No one will care about your legacy...you will just be another muckraking yellow journalist...forget about whatever you accomplished as a lawyer. Anyhow, I think that it is time for your fun little experiment in tabloid land come to an end. Dismantle the blog....don't make it a big topic of discussion...Just end it, so that tomorrow, when we go to log on, it simply won't be there anymore. It's been fun. Now let's end it.

    Dont you dare tell him to take this blog down.

    I still have to file my libel suit and collect. If the blog comes down I will have no case.

    Stop with the bitchin 8:45:26 AM
    and just gather all the information you need and perhaps if Rumpole does not file chapter 7 ya might get some cash out of this.

  13. I just think this blog is a huge failure. Bill Ferguson dies, and there is hardly a word about it. Legal decisions and issues arise, and they are hardly mentioned. MLK day comes and no one discusses it. However, football picks and people's personal failures are always topic of the day. I have heard more about Brummer, Rory's danish, some girl named Portia and Scott Saul's pectorals than about anything of any real importance. This blog really is nothing but a tabloid rag, and ought to go.

  14. Rumpole

    Maybe you misunderstood me. I really don't like to point this out, since I do admire your earlier displayed amature ability, but, in case you or your readers didn't notice it, EVERY SINGLE TEAM THAT YOU PICKED TO WIN THIS WEEKEND ACTUALLY LOST ITS GAME, including your Super Bowl champion and your Upset of the Week. With most bookies I know, you can bet four team playoff parlays by picking winners only with no point spread, and the payoff on a successful bet is quite a bit higher than a regular point spread pick (even with the vig figured in). So who's the "genius" now?

    Maybe you should stick to powdered wigs, Inns of the Court, Blackstone, Alfred Lord Tennyson, and "The Beautiful Game" and leave real football picks to professionals like me. The Bills will rule next year and beat the Dirty Rotten Fish again.

    Your Pal,

    Brad

  17. 8:23 - Just checked last year's posts on Washington's Birthday, Lincoln's Birthday, Veteran's Day, and even Christmas. Nothing much in the comments about the significance of the people we celebrate on those days either. Maybe it's just enough to enjoy the day for whatever it means personally, and let others do the same, without having to read what those days mean to someone else.

  21. MLK never tried a murder case, he was demoted in some job for some reason, and he should be investigated. I think he's rumpole, even though that's impossible. He once said "it's all in the game, yo," and he is to some on this blog, a bottomfeeder. He has a huge ego because he is well known, and I've heard some other stuff about him which I know is not true, but I wont post it, because it doesn't belong here, Rumpolr (MLK) will rightfully take it down, and then too many will bitch that their first amendment rights are being violated.

  22. Here is the biggest BS I have seen. Most Law Firms are open today and not carring to celebrate MLK's Holiday. Talk about being racist. Even Rumpole writes about football.

    This is what I say, "You are full of it!" You still consider African-Americans and Latinos as 2nd class citizens.

    Good going Bigots.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Not judged by the color of your skin but by the content of your character? Tell it to the judicial liberals. Almost every judicial decision of any controversy today involves some admirer of MLK arguing that people must be judged by the color of their skin. Imagine the outrage if the words of MLK were posted on the front cover of the application to every law school in American and adhered to? The law school would be pilloried as racist, etc etc.

  24. To those who want this blog to end, I have a simple solution: stop reading.

    I am selfish. I do this for my own enjoyment, not for the benefit of mankind, or Miamikind, or for you or for anyone.

    Just for me. Got it? My interests and only my interests are my concerns. Your feelings matter not one whit to me. Understand?

    You want thoughtful posts? Search the blog on the day Rosa Parks passed away and read my thoughts on that. Search the blog for my thoughts on the death penalty, or the issue of how many people are serving decades long sentences and are innocent.
    (use the search this blog feature on the main page)

    I will write posts on whatever I damn choose and you have two choices: read it, or continue reading that depo you took.

    Never mistake me for an altruist or that have anyone else's interests at heart when I write something. I do it for my own selfish benefit. Nothing more.

    To quote from my favourite author:

    "what do you think of me?"

    "but I don't think of you."

    Howard Roak to Ellsworth M. Toohey.

    Thus, your thoughts on what this blog is, has become, or should be, do not in any way matter to me.

  25. In todays world I want to be judged by the color of my skin, heck as dumb as I am .....

  26. huhum... excuse me Rumpole umm ya spelled a this wrong....

    "not one whit to me"

    no need to get all pissy now.

  27. To 3:05:39- you have hit the nail on the head. You have identified the problem with those who spout MLK's words without understanding them.

    The words are powerful: To judge an individual by the content of their character and not the color of their skin, or any other physical atribute, is the ideal of any rational human being who makes rational judgments and decisions.

    And yet, MLK is thrust into the issue of preferential treatment based on race every day.

    Racism caused inequities that needed and still need to be addressed and fixed. However not on the back of a qualified individual who never did anything to hurt anyone.

    Have at it.

  35. Ayn Rand is one of those authors who is really popular with people who think they're smart, but aren't.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Rumpole's favourite authors, in no particular order:

    Ayn Rand; John Steinbeck; Stephen King; William Manchester; John Irving; E.M. Forester; C.S. Forester (Horatio Hornblower novels) ; Robert Caro; Gabriel García Márquez; Tom Wolfe; William Shakespeare; Henry David Thoreau;

    Rumpole's Favourite Books, in no particular order:

    To Kill a Mockingbird;
    Grapes of Wrath;
    Fountainhead;
    A World Lit Only By Fire;
    1984; Slaughterhouse 5; Farenheight 451; Widow for a Year; Of Mice and Men; Catcher in the Rye; Old Man and the Sea (and its the only Heningway book I can tolerate); Dune; Travels With Charley; Crime and Punishment; Lord Of The Flies;
    A Passage to India;
    The Right Stuff; Rome and Juliet; Henry VIII; Merchant of Venice;
    Don Quixote;

    I'm sure I've missed a bunch- this is just off the top of my head.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Actually, Ms. Rand's contribution to philosphy, espitemology, and metaphysics are vastly underated. If you think you know her writing because you read the Fountainhead when you were 17, then you know nothing about her at all. Her analysis of Kant and Aristotle, her defense of capitalism as a political system, her meticulous knowledge and use of the English language make her, in my opinion, one of the smartest people of the 20th century. That she could not manage her personal life as well as her intellectual life, was a great tragedy. Put down that tattered copy of the Fountainhead and pick up a copy of "Capitalism: The Unknown Ideal" , or "The Virtue of Selfishness", and then you will be doing some reading.

  39. On another subject- Tom Brady is a fraud. He has no right to claim victory. His team was down, and his much vaunted come from behind drive was finished- he threw an interception- The Patriots' season was over- Brady was exposed as the second rate fraud he is- then Belichick's deal with Satan became evident, as Troy Brown, who was the real hero for the Patriots yesterday, pulled off a play almost equal to the immaculate reception, when he ripped that ball loose from the Charger DB who intercepted it, and gave overrated Tom Brady a second chance.

    Brady threw three picks yesterday, and his season will end next week at Indy. Guaranteed. (Unless Satan intervenes again.)

  40. I agree with 8:32. Ayn Rand appeals to inferior intellects, especially those possessed by large egos. And once you take away the "philosophy," that leaves what? Her artistic and literary talents? She has none. Her novels are almost unreadable--so incredibly didactic!

    ReplyDelete
  41. How hard is this? You cannot post about a person's appearance. Their eating and sleeping habits are fine- to make fun of their hair, nose, weight, etc., is not what this blog is about.

    To the other poster- didactic? trying reading some books instead of googling "give me an important word to make me look smart."

    ISSUES
    1. Is a judicial assistant subject to the code of judicial conduct?

    ANSWER: No.

    ReplyDelete
  46. The Committee on Standards of Conduct Governing Judges, the predecessor to the Judicial Ethics Advisory Committee, opined in Fla. JEAC Op. 91-23 that a judicial assistant was subject to the Code and could not engage in fundraising activities. In Fla. JEAC Op. 92-33, this Committee again opined that Canon 7 applied to judicial assistants so that judicial assistants were precluded from engaging in partisan political activities. However, Fla. JEAC Op. 92-33 was addressed by the Florida Supreme Court in conference on September 8, 1992, and by letter the Court advised this Committee that it was the unanimous opinion of the Court that a judicial assistant may not be prohibited from engaging in partisan political activity during personal time, providing such activity is conducted entirely independently of the judge and without reference to the judge or the judge’s office. See Fla. JEAC Op. 93-45.

    In 1995, a majority of this Committee, in Fla. JEAC Op. 95-12, voted to withdraw Fla. JEAC Op. 91-23 and concluded that judicial assistants are not bound by the Code of Judicial Conduct. The Committee indicated that fundraising by judicial assistants is not precluded by the Code if it is done outside the courthouse, outside the assistant’s administrative responsibilities, and is not otherwise in violation of Canon 2B. The Committee suggested that judicial assistants’ conduct should be governed by state ethics law.

  47. Hey Rump,
    Big article in Sunday's NY Times about Ayn Rand and the movie version of Atlas Shrugged. High falutin philosophical stuff.
    If you haven't read it, I can mail you my copy. Let me know where.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Batman says:

    You are correct. However if you read the Code of Judical Conduct and the opinions more carefully, a judge is responsible for his judicial staff and all acts done by those persons which may reflect upon the impartiality or dignity of the court. In addition Judges are not permitted to endorse judicial candidates and the actions of a JA may reflect to the public that judges position on that candidate or judge.

    The more important issue is whether D'Arce abused his position with the judge to further his own political ends and whether knowing that the judge permitted that conduct to continue.

    That should answer the question more fully.

  51. excuse me!!!

    The Committee and its operational guidelines were established in Petition of the Committee on Standards of Conduct forJudges, 327 So.2d 5 (Fla. 1976), to wit:

    "The Committee shall render advisory opinions to inquiring judges relating to the propriety of contemplated judicial and non-judicial conduct, but all opinions shall be advisory in nature only. No opinion shall bind the Judicial Qualifications Commission in any proceeding properly before that body. An opinion of the Committee may, however, in the discretion of the Commission, be considered as evidence of a good faith effort to comply with the Code of Judicial Conduct; provided that no opinion issued to one judge or justice shall be authority for the conduct, or evidence of good faith, of another judge or justice unless the underlying facts are identical. All opinions rendered by the Committee shall be in writing, and a copy of each opinion, together with the request therefor, shall be filed with the Clerk of the Supreme Court and with the chairman of the Judicial Qualifications Commission. All references to the name of the requesting judge shall be be deleted."

    On September 4, 1997, the Supreme Court of Florida approved a request made by the Committee on Standards of Conduct Governing Judges. By Order 90,133 , the committee is now renamed as the Judicial Ethics Advisory Committee.

  52. Hey Batman on Tuesday, January 16, 2007 12:58:55 PM.

    You must be a bit slow to continue with the BS that Juan did something wrong. You should be focusing on the Judges who lied to tarnish his image and get reelected. Get a brain and stop the BS. The Supreme Court has spoken and the man was correct. Enough time has elapse to show that nothing irregular ever happened. Additionally, I though this was the US and not Cuba or Venezuela. We all have the right to support, question and even challenge any and all public officials. Seems to me that Judge Faber should now worry since the rock he based his irregular campaign has been crushed by the highest court in the state.

    On the issue of "abused his position with the judge to further his own political ends" I must laugh, or how my kids say, lol, lmao & roflao... That would mean that if a JA can further his political goals a Judge would be able to crush all those in his way as well as being able to manipulate the system. OMG. Stop being so pissy. If this was the case, all the spouses of Judges and Judges who have run on their sitting Judge spouses’ name would be in a tremendous conflict. Wait, I think they are! Here is a question, do you agree that Judge Jackie Scola ran on the same year as her husband was up and collected tons of money? Would you admit that Judge Larry Schwartz and his wife campaigned together, she appeared on his literature (against the cannons for both) or that they also used the Scola formula? As well, do you find it fair for Judge Zabel to have her husband run for an office right after her election or that some Judges are having affairs and/or dating each other while serving in the same circuit? How about Judge Farina having his wife and a few relatives working as Supervisors in the same system he oversees? How about Judge Leifman getting his mother Ruth Leifman a job in the Clerk's office in North Dade? Before I forget, how about Judge Siegler and her wife Sharon who is also working for the system? Do you think this people went through the normal system as the hard working clerks that serve us on a daily basis? I think not. I am a firm believer that Judges should have term limits.

    Regardless, this is now and that was then. Hopefully everyone receives the blessings that they deserve. I mean, "no good deed goes unpunished" you know.

    Listen, stick to this and if you have a problem, talk to the Supreme Court. I mean, you, a lonely lawyer can’t possible be smarter than the Justices of the Supreme Court. Rof & lmao…:
