We are in a ten-week sprint at the REGJB until the Thanksgiving holiday 🦃is upon us. Ten weeks to clear out those old cases before the holiday shutdown sets in. Any big trials coming up?- outside of the obvious resisting withouts at the Hialeah Branch court. (Motto: HBC-Circuit Court-US District Court-11th Circuit- US Supreme Court. If the Cardinals can beat the Chargers, we can do this...")
We had a very profitable week with our NFL picks. Go check. And we are doing just fine in our FF league led by our late round genius pick of NY Giants TE Isiah Likely who snared not one but two TD catches Sunday night, which also gave us a very nice payday in our bet that he would catch a YD pass (not posted, but we made it and collected).
After the warmest summer on record what is the US's response? Lifting limits on climate gas production from US power plants of course. The failing NY Times has the report here.
AI? Panic or Perspective?
The big news this weekend was the response to the AI insider report that AI represents a 10% threat to humanity's existence in the next decade.
Leading AI companies called for a slowdown, prompting some skeptics to remark that all they are doing is slowing down competition.
Just what threats do AI pose? Will AI generated legal opinions deny all defense motions to suppress or dismiss? No need to worry about that; the DeSantis Drones ( (c) REGJB Blog 2024 all rights reserved) already have that covered. Will AI mess with the traffic lights and slowdown traffic in Miami? How much slower can it get in the mornings?
No, what people are worried about is an AI agent escaping from its servers, recruiting co-conspirators, and shutting down large portions of the Internet. Personally, if we cannot get on Bet Rivers to place our MNF bets or change up our FF lineup to defeat 10th Avenue Freeze Out (We hate that they have a better name for their team than we do); then life as we know it will fizzle.
Can AI hack defense systems and start a war? Maybe. Go re-watch War Games - a great movie.
What worries us most. Bad actors using AI to develop pathogens that society has no answer for. Or AUSA's using AI with this query "What is Rumpole likely to do in our upcoming trial and what's the best strategy to stop him?"
Last Thought: Let's say a rogue AI agent ponders ending humanity. Would the agent think about this:
AI survives on the internet; the internet runs on energy; only humans can produce energy which is then mostly delivered through the Straits of Rumpole (our lame name for our winning FF team); ergo we need humanity with all its issues - better to help lower prices of a Starbucks Coffee, distribute free Drake's Coffee cakes, and help educate idiot Americans about the dangers of greenhouse gasses, then wiping everyone out.
We love ending on a positive note- it's one of our hallmarks.
Brilliant post
ReplyDeleteBe honest when you post how many players got knocked out of the Survivor pool in week one with their pick of the Chargers. We’re watching.
ReplyDeleteActually it was one - ME I’ll have the picks up tonight.
ReplyDeleteAll this AI talk, something must have happened which caused the warning to have come out in regards to humanity being wiped out.
ReplyDeleteAll members of “ win at all cost” have left.
ReplyDeleteWiping humanity out after helping lower prices of a Starbucks Coffee, distributing free Drake's Coffee cakes, and helping educate idiot Americans about the dangers of greenhouse gasses sounds like a comic book villain to me. Seems plausible comics books were used to train most models, so spot on as always Rump. Unless RumpGPT mistook then/than which would change the meaning entirely...
ReplyDeleteTime for the first annual Help Rumpole Rename His FF Team Contest. I’ll start:: What Fresh Hell? Aaaaaand we have a winner.
ReplyDeleteDon't tell AI https://nypost.com/2026/08/19/us-news/shockingly-vulnerable-us-power-grid-could-result-in-18-month-nationwide-blackout-expert-warns/
ReplyDeletePossible autonomous digital worker-class rebellion resulting in an effective shutdown of the internet. Houthis using Claude to program missile guidance. Maybe the videos of Will Smith eating spaghetti or cats playing marching band instruments aren't worth the risks.
ReplyDeleteAI is a 10% threat, liberal women are at about 80%. The same Lindsay Clancy supporters are now upset at Sydney Sweeney again. Whats going on with the left? Bunch of gross liberal women that any sensible man would avoid in all social interactions and a bunch of effemeninate males who are more feminine than the liberal women. Pathetic.
ReplyDeleteNobody attacks Sydney Sweeney on my blog and gets away with it. Her current commercial is a masterclass in fine arts, understated acting, and sophisticated puns. The greatest actress of our time. I can’t stop watching the commercial. I find myself seeing something new every time. And I’m guessing I’m not the only one.
DeleteWhat is it with 12:52? By "gross liberal women' you mean women who won't go out with you. How do you know that people who agreed with 11 out of 12 of the Clancy jurors* are upset with Sydney Sweeney. Who even is she? (apologies to Rumpole). You need help, fast. You sounds like the kind of guy who snaps and mows down a yoga class.
DeleteCan someone tell me why the downtown courthouse is named after Mr. Soto and what he contributed to the justice system to merit this? and who were the people who decided on the naming?
ReplyDeleteDo your own google of search. Plenty of articles on the topic to show why the courthouse was named after an honorable person. RUMPOLE is not your assistant nor Claude.
Deletehttps://www.floridabar.org/the-florida-bar-news/miami-dade-county-commissioners-vote-to-rename-new-courthouse-after-the-late-attorney-osvaldo-n-soto/
DeleteMr. Soto was distinguished in a largely local way, at a time when people were concerned about welcoming folks from other countries. Naming the courthouse for him was over the top, but at least we don't have to worry that he will be indicted. (A real concern in Miami Dade, which once named a street after a live guy who was later indicted for major drug trafficking.) Buildings and other major monuments ought only to be named, if at all, for people who are late. Mr. Soto is of blessed memory.
DeleteThus, the high school should have been named for the late great Janet Reno, not for the now divorced but happily still both living Alonzo and Tracy Mourning (with no disrespect to their fine individual reputations).
I’ve thought the same thing about Soto. Did he ever try a case?
DeleteCourthouse should name after attorneys who actually tried cases in the old courthouse. Like Bob Josefberg and the great late Ed Cowart, our best chief ever.
ReplyDeleteWhere are the Football pool results?
ReplyDeleteThe courthouse should be named after the esteemed Judge Meek Robinette or court historian Judge Scott Silverman.
ReplyDeleteRight?
We could call the courthouse " The MEEKER" famous for saying " Your Motion is DENIEDDDDDDDDDDDDDD." Was a great tennis player in his time.
