Pope Francis explained that, on a human level, “A judge requires a human maturity,” expressed most clearly through, “detachment from personal views,” that allows the judge, “to immerse himself in the mindset and the legitimate aspirations of the community in which the service takes place.”

Regarding the way in which a judge ought to exercise his authority, Pope Francis spoke of the need for “objectivity” and “fairness [It. equità]” that allow him, “to adjudicate with imperturbable and impartial equidistance,” from the parties and from his own personal tastes, opinions and preferences.

Pastorally, Pope Francis said the judge must have an authentic spirit of service. “[A judge] is the servant of justice,” he said, “called to treat and adjudicate the condition of the faithful who turn to him in trust.”

http://en.radiovaticana.va/news/2014/01/24/pope_to_rota:_authentic_spirit_of_service/en1-766868

Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19039943.post-77330772181076476202014-01-27T21:53:24.196-05:002014-01-27T21:53:24.196-05:00From WIKI:

You're getting your memories of Hugh mixed up with Tony; Hugh worked as an investigator in the P.D. Office while he tried to pass the Bar exam, and Tony worked as a prison guard, then a P.I. (and he was a good one), before becoming a millionaire. Tony never worked in any capacity for the P.D. Office. I personally tried an attempted murder case with him when he had a co-def. he did work in drug court but he was a pd well before Stan Goldstein was the first judge there. Tony was a pd. Couldn't pass the bar so he worked as an "investigator" while he tried.
