David Ovalle and the Miami Herald have the sad news here, that Dr. Hyma, known to a generation of prosecutors, defense attorneys, judges, and more importantly-the next of kin of the deceased- as a kind, honest, decent and superb medical examiner has passed away.
As the article points out, Dr. Hyma joined the Medical Examiner's office when it was led by the legendary ME Joe Davis and Dr Hyma became the chief ME where he left his mark on the office, the court system, and the bereaved.
When you see something that is not right, not fair, find a way to get in the way and cause trouble. Congressman John Lewis

Wonderful tribute to Hyma written by O'Valle. Hyma leaves a legacy of dedicated and professional AMEs in our community and around the State. Every time I dealt with his office the staff was always first class, helpful, and accommodating to our requests. Condolences to his family.
No one will ever replace the legendary Dr. Joe Davis. One of a kind, would meet with counsel on cases at no charge. He was awesome, a true Miami icon. Do not ever forget him.
So young. How sad.
Dr. Hyma was one of the kindest and smartest people I have ever met. His integrity came though in everything he did. What a terrible loss for this community, and for his family.
He and Joe Davis were good guys and class acts.

Judge Jackie Schwartz with new complaint for being drunk on the job and other stuff that is sure to get her the boot.
Follow the link to the Jackie Schwartz suspension issued today. Attorney Jeff Feiler.
Supreme Court determined case is High Profile.
Where on the site is said complaint
That's unbelievable concerning Schwartz. I'm appalled...especially since she's been previously reprimand
Terrible loss
I was a young prosecutor and I met Dr Hyma soon after he joined the MEs office. He was always patient and had time to answer my questions and meet with me and jurors loved him. He spoke and testified earnestly and honestly and he was the epitome of a professional and I valued his insight on any case I had. And I am certain my experience was repeated with probably over a hundred ASAs over the years. It takes a big person to fill the shoes of a legend and Dr Hyma more than adequately did that. It couldn't have been easy following Dr Davis, but he did a great job.
Bruce was a great guy. Early in my career I defended a gentleman who was beaten by the cops while at the police station after a DUI arrest. The police (including a rather notorious officer) claimed that he was drunk and fell into a file cabinet, and added felony resisting charges to boot. I called Bruce as an expert on patterned injuries and he testified that the physical evidence of the injuries as shown by the booking photos did not fit the reports and testimony of the police. It was a quick not guilty verdict. It did not matter to him that his testimony was against the police. He was only interested in the truth. RIP Bruce.
Bruce was a true mensch. I never thought anyone could come close to Joe Davis..........but Bruce proved me wrong. Bruce was passionate about his work; he loved sharing his knowledge with young lawyers and AME's and responded to every call. He was a great guy and will be missed.

Dr Joe Davis could eat a ham sandwich while giving a discourse on forensic anatomy while slicing up a stiff and others in the room were stifling a barf.
